  1. *happy dancing* Charlotte and Sidney didn't technically end up together and i am 100% ok with that (and i don't care who knows it) meanwhile the superior OTP got their happy ending (babington x esther ftw!) looks like they made it clear that ms lambe and jolly parker bro aren't heading towards romance, but i'm totally here for the friendship they've struck up MR. YOUNG STRINGER DESERVED BETTER. But hey, at least with no season 2 i can headcanon that he avoids being evelyn napier-ed into oblivion. He looked so dapper in his ball outfit. Lord Grantham vs. Mr. Parker: who's worse with their money, let's go! Why was sidney surprised at how much his bro owed? He's been the one doing most of the money scrounging for him...he had to have some idea of how much he owed. I'm glad edward didn't do anything worse than bust into the ball (yeah sure, outing his and esther's situation was not good, but at least there was no violence or anything like that) *I really didn't care for the lighting/color scheme/atmosphere? of the ball it was very...bleh.
  2. Finally watched the latest episode (random thoughts not in order): First and foremost, "Poor Mr. Stringer" dialed up to an 11. Uughh my heart goes out for him. If i was charlotte i'd dump sidney in heartbeat for stringer. I feel like they're trying a slight lizzie x darcy angle and it's not working. Sidney's screamed at her one too many times and i found the whole, 'he's not such a bad person after all!' reveal/storyline from last episode awkward and rushed. Meh. I'm glad to see that stringer's dad seems to be doing well for the time being. And of course Lady Susan comes all this way to finish her convo with charlotte; a random girl she met a party whom she shared one convo with (and it was mainly charlotte blabbing about everything). πŸ˜• i was gonna be so angry if the working men were beaten in the regatta. They should have easily out-muscled the parker bros and won by a larger margin imo. Jolly Parker continues to grow on me. He's just so nice and...jolly. πŸ˜›And i like how he just wants miss lambe to have a nice time. They're an interesting combo. I'm not sure if there's romance on the horizon for these two, but i'll be happy enough if they become friends at least. Bye-bye clara. She was such a schemer. A good antagonist. I might actually miss her. Edward concerns me a bit. I hope he doesn't try to pull anything dangerous. He's already looking dangerous. My mom and I both cheered when Lady Denham 'rose like a phoenix from the ashes.' We also cheered when she gave clara and edward the boot. I adore babington. I also adore babington x esther. It feels a bit rushed along with some of the other plotlines, but they're making it work well enough with the time allotted to them. Stringer & Babington & Jolly Parker bro > Sidney. The list of sanditon men i prefer over sidney keeps growing.
  3. Thought the opening scene was well done. Poor daniel. 😞 there's always a secret, evil school clique/club, isn't there? Let's hope Oskar gets the job instead of the incompetent dude.
  4. Enjoyed the episode. I'm glad Clara broke off the engagement (and so soon!). I was expecting the poor gal to get strung along for a bit longer while max pines for lydgate. Better sooner than later. Here's to hoping that the soldier dude someday makes his way into jail. I'm also awaiting the day when max decides to throw down with his medical superior-teacher-advisor dude over the shock 'therapy.'
  5. Edward and Clara deserve each other at this point. I hope Lady Denham pulls thru and kicks them to the curb. Esther can stay though. This entire episode was...off? awkward? Cringier than the previous episodes have managed to be? Not my favorite. Of course sidney shows up in the exact same alley at exactly the right time to rescue charlotte. I didn't even care for the fancypants ball scene. Those random few 5 second slow-mo bits they seemed to throw in were straight up not good. Way to kill the scene (not that i was very impressed w/ it to begin with--i still don't care for sidney x charlotte and i actual thought the scene lacked the usual ust we get in austen ball scenes). And the ex has arrived πŸ˜• A personal nitpick: i can't stand it when we get masquerade balls but the mc's always seem to ditch their masks two seconds into it. The carriage chase was corny as well. Least favorite episode of of the season so far.
  6. Oskar's crime fighting posse seems to be growing...maybe...it'd be cool to see Ms. ...Lidgate (??? I'll admit i don't know most of their names yet) unofficially kinda join the team so to speak, but i know it's not a certainty by any means. Max's sister doesn't hold back when it comes to verbally sparring with him. She lets him have it. Good for her. Max's dad though...he's trying so hard to turn a blind eye to certain things bc he wants to stay afloat in society...but he can't keep doing it forever. Reality's gotta hit him at some point and i feel like there's a good chance it'll involve his business.
  7. Charlotte is to partially blame this time but does sidney really have to keep screaming at her every episode? Uuuggghhh. I know they're probably going to end up together but i still can't get behind them as a pairing. In the mean time dear sweet young stringer is there and if charlotte doesn't want him i'll take him. Uuugghhhh poor lord babington. I hope he doesn't give up. Esther seeems to be having her heel turn now. Her step bro continues to be awful. I feel like it was implied that he and clara might start scheming together. ????
  8. The moment the music started i thought the same thing. I'd be shocked if it wasn't done by the same person. I've been enjoying the show so far. It's at the end of the 3 hr programming block (howard's end, sanditon, and this), but it's probably my favorite out of the 3 right now.
  9. A bit on the racy side at some points (that's andrew davies for ya) but my mom and i are enjoying it. I'm team Stringer(?) even though there's probably less than a 1% chance of it happening. Sidney's a bit too grouchy and rude for my taste. Mr. Parker's gonna live long enough to see himself become the villain. Also...his other brother (that is his brother right? There are too many siblings to keep track of :P) seems quite well off...why doesn't he ask him for financial help instead of pestering sidney for everything? He'd be an easy target imo.
  10. Nana Poldark ftw!!! The greatest thing to come out this show, imo. I only wish she could have joined ghost elizabeth in haunting george this season.
  11. A so-so finale. I know people confirmed it was only going to be an hour, but i'm still kinda surprised it didn't get a bit of a bigger send off (like an hour and a half or something). So it was confirmed that cecily ran off with kitty, right? I'm still confused about that whole situation. It wasn't handled very well at all. At least the evil bros got their comeuppance. If only tess got what she deserved. I'm still trying to figure out if demelza's iq was on par or worse than it was last season. Speaking of iq's...why would dwight let caroline know of the secret shenanigans??? That's not something he should have shared wih her. And then of course she blabs to demelza about it. ???? Dumb. Also...what on earth is caroline talking about with this 'past indiscretion' of dwight's???? When??? With who? I have no recollection of him ever having interest in with someone else's wife. ????? GEORGE FOR THE WIN!!!!! so they end the show with ross ditching demelza for at least 9 months or longer, and dwight will eventually be ditching caroline for a while too? Okay i guess. One last slow motion scene. Overall thoughts on season 5: Despite some general complaints (dumb demelza, ned overstaying his welcome by about 2 episodes and the grating tess plot), caroline's jealousy...i actually really enjoyed this season despite it basically being all made up i guess. I thought last season was awful: the mention and squabbles over teeny bopper poet hugh (or however it was spelled- i don't care at this point) and elizabeth almost every episode, what seemed like a mandatory one per episode requirement of ross/demelza bed scenes and random slow motion shots, ross being out of control, demelza's london dumbness, etc... ...all of which I thought season 5 improved upon (except the demelza stuff). We got minimal bed scenes and slow motion shots which i appreciated and we hardly had to listen to ross give a passionate speech too. It was really nice seeing him have to be the one keeping his cool thru the ned stuff. George also wasn't mustache twirling the entire season which was also a nice change of pace. Merceron and hanson were really great villains imo. Sorry that this is a bit of a rambly mess but i'm still collecting my thoughts as i'm typing this. πŸ˜› But yeah, season 5 > season 4 by a long shot so it's a bit disappointing that the finale didn't have a bit more oomph to it. *reading the dwight comments: maybe. I need to go back and rewatch season 1 bc i only now barely recall such a plot
  12. Watched the special...i heard myself saying 'poor leslie' out loud probably a dozen times. So what, they basically decided to gloss over him bc he basically 'underachieved' in life compared to the others??? Well geez that's nice of them. My mom immediately googled 'what happened to leslie?' and found out she was far from the only one asking that question. I'd had preferred it they were just upfront and honest about his situation and rotten luck rather than awkwardly trying to pretend he didn't exist. So it sounds like the spark between spiros and louisa stayed platonic, and now i kind of wish things had stayed that way instead of the romance dragging down the last season.
  13. After weeks of being ridiculously confused over hanson and merceron and trying to tell them apart it's been revealed that they're BROTHERS?!?!! Well played, casting department, well played. Jeffy boy and Cecily did not deserve that. Poor kids. I'm confused as to why cecily seemed unchaperoned by her father and/or his men when leaving on the boat. Wouldn't he want to make certain that no last minute shenanigans to save the poor couple happened? It just seemed weird, especially with the fact that the whole poldark gang was there acting like bodyguards for some reason. Not here for jealous caroline. Didn't care for her not honoring her husband's doctor-patient confidentiality and blackmailing george Poor horace What ever happened to that hanging threat demelza??? 'Next time' has already happened and you're still doing nothing about tess????? At this point demelza deserves to be messed with with how stupidly she's been handling the entire tess situation. Bye bye kitty. I'll miss you. George wants to bail on the evil bros but they aren't letting him out of their grip. Oof. I'm happy that george doesn't really want to get anymore involved with them. I spy what could be the return of ghost elizabeth... French Spy time!!! I love the idea of ross using the french against merceron and his crew after wickham (?) didn't believe ross about the french being up to something. Enjoyed the episode. I honestly don't see how they're gonna squeeze everything that needs to be done into the finale next week (is it just an hour or are we gonna get a 2 hr finale?)
  14. He's a magistrate (i looked it up :P). All i know is that he has something to with the law and jail stuff. The one who gives the orders i think.
  15. Same to all of this. I was expecting the letter to announce something about the war too. Not about poor basil. They did an excellent job building up to the war. And yeah, the louisa x spiros relationship in seasons 3 and 4 was basically the only point this show stumbled, but at least it didn't consume the entire series. Seasons 1 and 2 and a good chunk of season 3 will always belong to louisa x corfu, the true otp of the series. Theo: the moment theo walked up to louisa....you could tell his heart was just breaking over her telling her. And later you could tell how much it was hurting him to tell gerry it was time to let the animals go. Theo's actor did a really wonderful job. He was a really wonderful character overall. It was nice that he was just there, being a much needed friend and mentor throughout the show.
  16. Ned finally did something right! Proud of him for not running away. Tess. Just stop. Please. Stop. Ugggghhhhhhh. I wanna strangle her. Not entirely sad about losing ned. I'm glad there was no last minute save. I feel bad for kitty though. And at least they didn't go through with all that gutting, etc. Stuff. Nice move by jeffy boy and cecily to stop the wedding. First by mentioning ross and then claiming what predicament george would be in (that luckily turned out to match his fears about valentine/elizabeth/ross). Personally i never thought george was into getting remarried anyways. His uncle was the one that kept pushing him about the subject and i know he thought of the advantages marrying her would bring him (and he wanted to see jeffy boy suffer a little)...but his heart never seemed really into it, imo. Bond villain merceron has revealed himself to ross...most excellent. Can't wait to see what goes down next now thst he's revealed himself. I honestly feel like bc it's ross...he should be able to climb out of that hole pretty easily, but i guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. My mom and i keep arguing over merceron and hanson. Lol. I keep saying 'the bond villain' in which she responds 'the girl's dad!' And i respond 'no, the one with the falcon (?)!' It really doesn't help that they're both brown-haired, middle-aged white guys that are literally interchangeable.
  17. Well I cried. 😭😭😭 that was a sad finale. Only complaint: Still didn't care for the flirting louisa/spiros scenes in the first half of the episode but i was fine with their goodbye scenes considering it was the end. Geez i wanted basil gone, not dead. Sven! Too bad he was in it for like a minute. Zoltan! Poor margo's other boyfriend though. He was ditched so easily. Lugaretzia saying 'my family' and later asking if they were leaving 😭 The incoming windy kinda stormy weather really set the mood for the episode, so that was well done. The family coming together to do the play 😭 Theo basically breaking the news and him and gerry letting the animals go. 😭 They brought back the dinner in the sea Overall just 😭. I'm gonna miss this show so much. It's been fun and i've enjoyed discussing the show with all of you. I'll see some of y'all around the other pbs/bbc threads. ❀
  18. I feel the same. Once season 2 started Leslie became 'best child' and Margo's been the mvp of this season. Larry will always have a special place in my heart. Imo the heart of the show has always been louisa and larry's relationship, so him being gone most of this season made the show suffer a little. I know it couldn't be helped, though. My mom and i love the intro! We've always had fun pointing out all the stuff, trying to figure out what we'll see in the next ep., etc. Overall this season hasn't been my favorite (mainly bc of the louisa x spiros x dimitra nonsense)...and i know there's still one more episode to go, but i still feel like the durrells had a far more solid run than some of the other pbs shows. Like, it's low points haven't reached the same level of low-ness i've thought poldark, downton, grantchester, etc. have or had managed to hit at some point during their runs (imo)...which i consider to be pretty impressive. This show could feel downright magical at certain points and it's been such a feel-good show most of the time. Anyone have a favorite season? Episode? The Prince episode last season is one of my favorites. It was one of those magical episodes.
  19. Drake...dumb Ned...dumb I was only half paying attention to this episode but it looked like Ross was being dumb too. Also demelza for giving that dumb girl another chance (we gotta be close to double digits at this point). George up to his evil ways again. Basically everyone was being dumb this episode except dwight and caroline. I feel like i need to go back and watch the episode again though (and this time pay attention). So the bond villain turns out to be (i had to google it) merceron???...who i think we've only met once back in episode 1...i think?? Wasn't he one of the first people ross talked to about getting justice for ned???? All these political men are blending together. I can no longer remember who's who. πŸ˜›
  20. Spiros: talks about how he refuses to be like his father Also Spiros: proceeds to emotionally cheat on his wife with Louisa Me: hhhhmmmmm Like, they're both doing wrong here, but to say that then have a long drawn out montage of heavy flirting while baking??? Nope. Not buying what they're trying to sell us at this point. I enjoyed leslie's boy scout antics. They were pretty fun. @ that one boy scout: you think it's all fun and games but wait until the nazi's get ahold of you. πŸ˜• Margo's back! Loved the agatha christie train antics. Liked the fireworks and chaos when the king was supposed to be sailing by but then we got stuck with the spiros/basil drama. Basil...good riddance at this point.
  21. The sound cut out on us for a good few minutes so we missed some stuff (all of other channels werre working just fine so it had to be the station). I wish ross would bail on ned. I know he really wants to believe in his friend but ned's a loose cannon at this point. Well, we know george is on the mend bc his burning hatred for ross is beginning to return at full force. Question: why do ross and co. keep returning to the same tavern where they literally keep running into hanson everytime they go there? It'd be an easy way to avoid some drama if they found a new joint to hang out at. The maid girl is finally fired!!! Yay!
  22. I feel the same. When they talked about 'poor spiros' due to dimitra's roving eyes i was like what?? Poor spiro??? How so?? He seems pretty content blatantly flirting with louisa for all to see???? It's like they just conveniently forgot about louisa's whole 'you can't have your cake and eat it too' speech from 2 episodes ago. I really loved spiros x louisa in the first two seasons (it also helped that we really didn't know the exact status of the wife at that point), but near the end of last season and now this...i've done a complete 180 on them now that they're actually diving into the romance drama (and not handling it well). It's dragging down the entire season at this point. I thought based on last week's preview we were gonna get stuck with leslie pulling parent trap shenigans to get his mom and spiros together but thank goodness he realized his mistake pretty early on. He needs to fess up now though. And boo @ basil for continuing to stay involved with dimitra. Margot and her ward were the highlight of the episode once again. The cinema and the movies are a magical thing to behold so their reactions to it were easy to understand. The war is really starting to rear its ugly head now. Kinda sad that the fun house guests kinda stopped with the colonel. These ones aren't really focused on in depth and are there to just fill up space until the show ends i guess. It's cool that we got an update on our beloved fugitive.
  23. Yep. Mystery man with his pet falcon (Or whatever bird of prey he is). Belongs in a Bond film.
