I don't think GodCas scared Dean. He didn't care that much about his life at that point anyway. He tried to figure out a way to stop him, and he risked trapping death to do it. That itself was a huge risk. Again what other options were there? He did beg Cas to stop. Cas, IIRC told him that he was "just a man." Agree. I think Jensen did the best with the material he had available. We saw that he was having nightmares about Cas and drinking for the record. I think the writers got too caught up in the Amy drama to really focus on a proper grief arc, but for me Jensen sold that he missed and was sad about Cas..

I really don't think these situations are comparable. Lady Toni told Dean that she could help them save Mary, and as for Jody she was possessed and Sam and Dean know that you can exorcise demons and save the host. The situations didn't seem hopeless. For me its more comparable to Dean dealing with Souless Sam. It looked and sounded like his brother but it wasn't his brother. Dean knew that Souless Sam was dangerous, and he tried to save him, but when that failed, the threat still had to be neutralized. I really do believe that that when looked into the panic room after he didn't last as death, he was wrestling with the idea that he might have to kill the thing that looked and sounded like his brother. It was the same with Cas. It looked and sounded like Cas but it wasn't Cas. I think Dean knew that. He did try to appeal to Cas but Cas refused to listen. Since Dean doesn't have powers, and GodCas could crush him like a bug any time, what exactly was Dean supposed to do? Death doesn't seem to have any powers but expect reaping, so summoning death could only mean one thing really. What could Dean do that wouldn't make the situation worse? GodCas was that threat that had to be stopped. They couldn't just let him go on killing. He was killing human beings, not just angels. When Dean said kill him, I don't think he saw it as killing Cas, but rather the the thing Cas become. Plus, when Dean thought Cas was dead, he was clearly upset, and his whole body language changed when Cas started breathing again. So Cas's death or potential death was something Dean clearly was not okay with.

I believe we are on episode 9. Season 1- Home Season 2- Croatoan Season 3- Malleus Maleficarum Season 4- I know What You did Last Summer Season 5- The Real Ghostbusters Season 6- Clap Your Hands if you Believe Season 7- How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters Season 8- Citizen Fang Season 9- Holy Terror Season 10- The Things We Left Behind Season 11- Oh Brother Where Art Thou Season 12- First Blood Home- This started off pretty good. Dean's struggles with being back in Lawrence were written all over Jensen's very expressive face. It's too bad they were dropped half way through. Despite Misery, Jensen was so good in this. I really liked the phone call. I think its the first time we see Dean fully drop his mask and see behind those walls. I also liked a small blink and you miss it moment. When Dean was putting together the purification bags you see him taste the ingredients. So Dean. There was a cut scene on the DVD that I wish they'd left in. When Sam and Dean were talking to John's old partner, Mike tells them he called social services on John. It explains why John took off. Croatoan- Loved this one. Dean's reaction after Sam was infected was heartbreaking. I was never a fan of Dean trying to sacrifice himself for Sam, and I liked that the show treated this as part of Dean's screwed up psyche rather then romantizing it like an episode that shall not be named did. I also like it when characters are put in a posistion to make hard decisions. It keeps things interesting. Dean wrestling with the of whether or not he should kill Duane. It shows its easier to say your going to do it then to actually pull the trigger. I like to credit both Dean's instincts and the fact that he couldn't really just execute a teenager. It's an interesting comparison to when he;'s later faced with the decision to kill Cyrus. We also saw that Dean can make the hard choice when he killed the girl earlier. There were also a small moment after Dean locked the door after he decided to stay with Sam. There was just this one moment where you could see Dean wrestling with John's last words, and the devastation that he might have to kill Sam written all over his face. I think this was a big part of why Dean came clean at the end of this ep. Malleus Maleficarum- I liked this ep okay, but there are no real stand out Dean moments. Its been a long time since I watched it but the thing I remember most is Dean feeling sorry for the bunny. I know What you Did Last Summer- More of a Sam ep. But for me it showed that Dean wasn't as closed minded to Ruby as the show tried to tell us. When Sam finally came clean Dean listened. He didn't even judge Sam when he said he was sleeping with Ruby. His only reaction was TMI The Real Ghostbusters- I kind of liked this one. I liked the twist with it being the kids who were the bad ones. Clap Your Hands if you Believe- This one doesn't really stick out. Expect it made me realize how much Dean's trauma is often played for laughs. I'm sure Dean suffered all forms of torture when he was hell. To have it as a punch line will never not annoy me. How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters- I wasn't a big fan of this episode. But I did like Jensen in this one. Jensen was great after Dean was effected by the grey sludge. "I don't care that I don't care." It was good to see the weight come off his shoulders, even for a few moments. Citizen Fang- Loved, loved, loved, it. Unfortunately, the last good ep of s8. Dean's instincts were spot on. He knew it wasn't Benny. He was willing to stand up for himself and his friend. I also liked that when Dean went to confront Benny he took a machete, which showed he was actually willing to do what he said if Benny messed up. Whether he would have done it/could have is up for debate, but I do believe Dean would have. But I'm glad Benny remains the one person who didn't betray Dean. Holy Terror- More of a Sam ep, but Jensen was fantastic in that final scene after he discover's Kevin's death. That whole gauntlet of emotions that ran across Dean's face, from disbelieve, anger, sadness, acceptance, and you can the moment the guilt threatens to bury Dean alive. The Things We Left Behind- Mostly what I remember about this one was the bait and switch the promos pulled. It made it seem like this ep was going to be all about Dean, only to have it all about Claire. The end though....I can't say enough how good Jensen is with stuff like that. How does he manage to make Dean seem to small, young and vunerable while covered in a blood surrounded by bodies? I also liked the CBGBs scene because I always like when we get info about Dean's past. I'm guessing that's why Dean knows what Roofies look like. Oh Brother Where Art Thou- This ep was disappointing. I remember being excited that Jensen filmed for 3 days with Emily, but then the scene basically just turned out to be a repeat of everything that came before. It seemed more like a place to park Dean so Sam could go into the cage. IMO, Dean was kind of irrelavant to the over all ep. First Blood- "We're not trapped out here with you. You're trapped out here with us." I think this was also the last good ep for Dean this season. I'm honestly shocked Dean was the one that was allowed to say it. Id have liked to see more of Dean in isolation. I did not like that once again they felt the need to devalue Dean's hell experience. Favorite ep- Citizen Fang, least favorite- tie between Oh Brother Where art Thou and Clap Your hands.

I see the s11 ep, I forget the name, but it had the dinner scene and Vampires. I figure that will be a pretty typical episode of WS. It didn't exactly set the ratings on fire. IIRC it went down by a 1/10. Also Claire's episode last season didn't increase the ratings.

I think they really need to put up or shut up with Dean's so called grief arcs. Dean's been taken to the edge so many times, with things just kind of just ending or dropped. I never really believed it was a thing to begin with though. Mostly because during comic con when they said Dean would think Mary was dead, Bob Singer pinched his ear, like you'd do to a little kid. There was no talk about Dean finally reaching his breaking point or anything like that. I think that was Jensen's interpretation and the only way he can make sense of it in his head. Then Dabb just leaned over and copied Jensen's answer. Jensen's less than enthusiastic tweet tells me there isn't much actually happening for Dean. A Dean who well and truly snapped, and capable writers, I think would be very interesting to watch. But I don't' think is the writers intention. Unfortunately, I think we've probably seen the majority of it in the trailer. We'll get a scene where Dean is sad, maybe one where he's angry. Then Missouri will set him straight and that will be that. -
Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
ILoveReading replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
In my UO, I think the relationship between Sam and Cas has always felt forced. When Cas is effected by something we never really see Sam show that much concern, or that much joy when he comes back. Sam even called Cas and it. Plus, its kind of hypocritical for Sam to bond with Cas after accusing Dean of liking and trusting Cas more than him. -
Problem was I don't think Mary needed to be brainwashed to act that way. When said said, "Am I do to different or more of the same." I thought that line was completely unnecessary because it was obvious it was more of the same. Mary wasn't interested in being a mom. Mary was manipulated into a relationship with John, so he really wasn't the great love of her life. I expect she would have been out of the house sooner rather than later, even if John hadn't died.

I think the original poster was Aeryn13. I agree. Sam Smith can't seem to see Mary in shades of grey. It's just black and white. Kim talked about this at her panel that a big weakness in the writing of woman is that people seems to portray them as weak or strong. But its wrong because people can be both or neither. For me, Jody is the perfect example of a strong female character. We see her hold her own in tough situations but we've also seen her get overwhelmed and need help. One scene I really liked last season was at Jody's house just after they get out of the bunker. Dean's sitting there looking a little lost and vulnerable and she just walks over and gives Dean a reassuring pat on the shoulder. Dean grabs her hand to show he appreciates the gesture. It was a bit of comfort when Jody saw that Dean was hurting. We saw and heard about Jody doing motherly things with Claire. Yet it didn't diminish her as a person. She's still strong and can hold her one a fight. So I dont' get the writers approach with Mary. Why is it they can do it with Jody, but somehow it makes Mary weak or in Sam Smith words, "Nightgown Mary" to demonstrate physical affection toward her sons.

I disagree. I have a great relationship with my mom and I still want her opinion on major and even minor things. I very much enjoy spending time with her. I see her every day. I don't consider that acting like a teenager. I also disagree its a teenage thing for Dean or Sam because he lost their mom at an early age. They were given this gift of having her back in their life. I think that's all either one really wanted from her. Was for her to be a part of their lives and get to know the men they became. When Mary left, even though it hurt, I think a part of Sam and Dean understood she needed space. Dean even tried to define the boundaries of their relationship. IMO, a very adult thing. He didn't call her and beg her to come back. Both Sam and Dean were hurt when Mary pushed them away. All the effort in that relationship came from Sam, and (mostly) Dean. If anything I'd say they were far more the parent then Mary was. Mary made zero effort to include her sons in her life. You (general you) can't blame them if they didn't exactly embrace Mary's excuses that she was doing it for them when her actions spoke otherwise. I believe what Dean said and what Mary heard were entirely two different things. When Dean said, be a mom, I thought it meant, just be part of our lives. Mary heard bake me cookies. It was Mary that was sneaking around, and lying. Hanging around with people that she new to be bad news. (They tortured her sons after all). Then digging in even deeper when the people that knew better said again it wasn't a good idea and pointed out several reasons why. That IMO if far more teenage behavior than wanting to get to know your mother, or just wanting to get to spend time with her or being hurt when she rejects you. So I don't see Sam or Dean being kids last season because they very much had to be the adults in the Mary situation. -

I would swear this was exactly how they described season 7. I guess we're supposed to pretend Jody and Donna aren't out there and would help if asked. To bad there isn't a way that Sam and Dean could contact them without having to be in same room.... I thought Dean believed Mary was dead and didn't want too look for her. I feel a Dean Winchester must learn to never give up on family lesson up coming up. Because if there is one thing Dean really needs to learn is that you don't give up on family. Translating from Dabb-ese. "We have no clue what were doing with Jack because none of us shared ideas with each other. He's just going to be whatever we need him to be for a particular episode. Don't expect continuity.' I didn't see the Winchesters being kids, since Mary wanted nothing to do with them. The majority of effort came from Dean trying to reach out to Mary. I'd say Dean was still more the parent last season than Mary since he did the majority of forgiving, apologizing, accepting blame, and compromising, despite being the one who was lied to and betrayed all season. That's what parents do. As for the "The Winchester's" being role models I suspect that will play out like "The Winchester's" being generals. I'll believe we see the Dean side of this when it plays out on screen. See above point. If Michael is interested in Dean, it will be for a hot minute until he sets his sights on Jack or Sam. Does Dabb have to diminish everything about Dean? His bond with Castiel was built up over many seasons and had many highs and lows. Now, Jack has the same level. When did Jack and Cas bond? I remember Jack brainwashing Cas, can someone point out the episodes I missed where this happened. Does this mean we see more of Jack being sad about Cas then Dean? -
I'm still waiting for episode 2 promo photos.

https://faegal04.tumblr.com/post/165797931184/is-this-benny-it-looks-like-benny It looks like Mary is even getting her own Benny. It really seems like these writers have zero creativity anymore. Everything this season is literally just a repeat of other seasons. Dean's grief is just season 7 Sam is back to season 1-2 freak issues Jack is a Cas clone, and an Amara repeat Mary= purgatory Crowley= Colonel Sanders The apocalypse is back on track. season 5, 6, 7. The post seems to be gone from Tumblr but Clark Backo (Patience ) tweeted a picture of herself talking about a trailer upgrade. So if she's in this ep, that would mean that episode 3, 7, 9, and 10 are wayward sisters ep, which means almost half of the first season is dedicated to setting up the spin off. Do any of the writers actually care about the main show anymore? -
Everything, I've heard about this season just further cements by belief that not only does Dabb have zero use for Dean as a character I'm starting to believe he really dislikes the character too. There is no other way to explain deconstruction of Dean that started in 12B and seems to be continuing this season.

I rolled my eyes that the "They only have each other." What about Jody, Donna, Alex, Claire, and Garth? Not to mention Satan's spawn. I'm going to resent Asmodeus every time he's on screen for being Not Crowley. But the actor's take is going to annoy me even more. Even the little glimpes were beyond irritating. As someone on my twitter timeline so aptly put it, "there is more ham and cheese in his acting then in an entire sandwich shop." What was Dabb talking about when he said that last season they got their mother back. I'd say they lost her all over again and in a far more painful ways. Losing Mary hurt, but at least Dean still had those few vague happy memories of a mom who loved him. Sam didn't remember her at all. Now, Dean knows those memories were mostly false and both Sam and Dean had Mary reject them. Even after Dean's big speech Mary refused to see him since she was only concerned about Sam. They'd have been better off if she'd stayed dead. My thoughts exactly. I'm also going to be resentful if Cas's storyline has to with death or him being a reaper since the show did nothing with Death's death. (speculation on my part, not an actual spoiler). It also feels like they're stripping away Dean's big brother role, since mentoring parenting Jack is mostly going to Sam. (That's not meant in a bitch/jerk context., just part of my bitterness toward Dean "spoilers"\ What will be Dean's role when Cas comes back. Dean will simply stop being sad. Then what? Dean- I think this is the exact say way they described him in s7. -
This I can buy because she was a terrible psychic. Dean's instincts are better than her abilities. I saw somewhere (I think it was tumblr) that one of the background pictures the police car was marked Omaha. So its possible this is tied to the incident that took place between Rufus and Bobby.

Hubris, for me, is Sam's fatal flaw, but unfortunately it keeps getting rewarded, so I'm expecting a goody too shoes nephilm who will help save the world, along with Sam. -
I'm disappointed this didn't start with Sheldon falling out of his mother at the K-Mart.
-
They really did turn Jack into a Cas clone. I can already tell Colonel Sanders is going to be annoying.
-
Agree. Even more worn territory is that it feels like they are regressing Sam and Dean back to their s1 personalities with Dean, its evil its must die and Sam's if you think its evil, you think I'm evil mentality. Dean hasn't been black and white in s2. What more can Dean do to prove he doesn't hate Sam, think he's evil. How does the show avoid making it look like emotional blackmail?
-
There was also the stuff Sam said under the influence of the siren. Dean made a comment about now wanting to hold Sam back, and Sam got really defensive, with "It's the siren talking. do we need to talk about this" in a way that suggested he really didn't think they should. Sam wasn't owning up to want he said. He just blew it off. What would be the point in bring it up when Sam refuses to take responsibility.
-
I just want Dean to kill him so we can get rid of the character. Not interested in watching the Winchesters play dad.
