Looking for Latoya.
-
Man, she changed her attitude real quick when she realized he was done. Too little, too late. Can you imagine going to couples therapy when you're only a few months in? What for? Go fix yourself, Molly.
-
I can see this. Andrew could/should have been more direct with Molly from the jump. Letting things fester is not good, and they would have recognized their incompatibility earlier. Andrew's decision to not say anything overt until the end could have been a calculation on his part. Molly is defensive and self-centered. Would he have gained anything by being more direct with her, other than having huge arguments? Their relationship is new. Arguments aren't worth the trouble that early on. Instead of arguing, he chose to collect information -- to wait and see if her behavior would improve. When it was clear that there was no reasoning with her, he gave up.

At Home With Amy Sedaris - General Discussion

Everyone wondering about Latoya, check out the podcast. The first episode is up. They crammed several special issues in this season: Tiffany's poor birthing care in the hospital, PPD, missing black girls, mental illness. I can't decide if they were handled well or not. I was surprised he asked her what she was fighting for. I never thought he saw their relationship as unmeaningful to her. Her using the sink cost fallacy as a rationale was sad. She's basically saying she doesn't want to go thru the effort of starting over and finding someone, as if they should stay together bc it's the easier thing to do. I'm also not sure that they all the way broke up. They cut the scene before she could answer the question.

The first episode was good. Can't wait for the next one.

@RealReality, you were right last week. I was really hoping last week was the end of Issa and Lawrence, but I was wrong. I was really hoping they would talk things out right there. Molly waiting and Issa avoiding just made things so weird. They should have just started with the block party instead of pretending things were normal. Yes, so manipulative. Either you want to work it out or you don't. Don't make the other person beg or try to convince you.

I have watched that one and the Hotep Wedding so many times.

Color me shocked that Issa and Lawrence are hanging together and sexing. She did go into it with her eyes wide open, though. If Lawrence does get a job offer, I hope it means she will let the relationship go. I'm not really up for watching a long-distance relationship. @heavysnaxx, I thought it was a fantasy sequence, too. I had to pause the show twice due to awkwardness -- during the lunch with Molly and when she was about to tell Nathan about Lawrence. I saw Nathan getting close to her, and I thought "Oh no!" I realized recently that Kendrick Sampson kinda looks like my cousin, so now I'm uncomfortable thinking of him as attractive. She's not going to get very far trying to dodge Victor. She thinks Andrew's going to stick with her and take her side by default, but that is his brother, and Molly is not his wife. Who does she think is going to get dropped in this scenario? There were, what, 3 times in this episode where he tried extra-gently to tell her she was wrong, and she didn't want to hear it. That's going to get old. How did Molly expect Issa to react? You tell your best friend that you don't fit into each other's lives, and you get bugged because she takes you at your word? Did Molly want to have a debate about the friendship's value out there on the sidewalk? Loved the scene with Ahmal and his extra spicy food. 😄

Oh my goodness, when he walked away and left her, I was so pissed. I think I yelled "Oh no, he didn't." He was gone just long enough to make her think he really left. Good comedic timing.
-
I do hope that Lawrence contacted Condola to tell her that he was definitely not coming. In the Wine Down, Issa Rae and Prentice said they thought Issa was doing one of her mirror raps in the Lawrence's bathroom.
-
I think she decided that she wanted to stay before his call with Condola. Going to the bathroom was a stalling tactic. She didn't live that far from him, so she could have just used the bathroom at home. I think she went in there to try to figure out what she wanted to do and and to get up the courage to keep the night going. I think their night together with closure for Issa. She left and walked home on her own because she is done with the relationship.

I wish she hadn't said either. It's unfortunate that she said it someone so close to Andrew. On the other hand, as obnoxious as the brother was, I'm sure he's been cruisin' for a "fuck off" for many years, and he finally crossed the wrong person at the wrong time.
-
I feel like they're making Andrew out to be almost perfect, and I'm here for it. On top of all his other appealing qualities, he is exceedingly patient AND has impressive taste in toys. Molly is gonna have to do a whole lot better than a feather, lol. He absolutely thinks she is wrong in the situation with Issa, but he's biting his tongue. I was wondering what happened to Molly's therapist, so I'm glad Molly reached out to her. Andrew's brother and sister-in-law were grating. The SIL's compliments to Molly were excessive. Those kinds of comments smack of insincerity or insecurity to me. You can give someone a nice compliment without comparing yourself negatively to them. The brother was just ridiculous. People who like to "play devil's advocate" are just being assholes who like to argue. If you disagree, either just say that or say nothing. Don't try to frame it as playing devil's advocate to make yourself look better. I'm wondering if Andrew is really going to let go of Molly's comment about Asian people. He seemed a little less warm with her the morning after the fight. Kim Field's cameo was great. Enjoy your new life, Mabel! She kind of reminded me of an aunt or older cousin.

😂 I am always happy to see Thug Yoda. I had forgotten about some of those characters.
-
It was to wash away Billy's puke, presumably to get rid of evidence of their presence.
-
Yes! That scene made me want to go out and buy some quesadilla ingredients.

@LibertarianSlut, I get where you're coming from. I can understand how someone in Molly's situation would be upset on an emotional level. For me, the distinction lies in the purpose of the ask - professional vs. personal/recreational. Asking to borrow someone's boat is for recreational purposes only, not to mention the liability issue. It's a big ask, and it's just for fun. In the poker scenario, if your husband and cousin are both pro poker players, and she's playing to earn a living, I would be more inclined to help than if she was just trying to make money off her friends. In the Molly/Issa/Andrew scenario, the ask was purely professional. Issa had a lot at stake, and what she was asking was small from Andrew's POV. I have a family member whom I despise and who has user tendencies. If she asked me for a kidney, I would have to think long and hard about it. If she asked to stay at my place, no effing way. But if she called and asked me to give her or her husband a job lead, I would do it, unless I knew them to be seriously trifling, which they aren't (and neither is Issa).
-
During that scene, I was thinking, "They left her phone and the money!" Then she sent him for the money. I was hoping they'd just done a jump cut that didn't show her picking up her phone, but she did indeed leave it on the steps.
-
Issa said that Nathan asked if he could help with anything and that's when she asked him to talk to Andrew. The initial contact came from Nathan. I would consider that taking an opportunity, not going behind Molly's back. I see your point. Molly's reason for refusing to help was that she didn't want it interfering in her relationship with Andrew. Issa was saying that if the relationship with Andrew got messed up, it would be because of something Molly did, not because of Issa.
-
Andrew calling Molly's jumpsuit a leotard was so real. Very funny. Molly's indignation was beyond ridiculous. Her "boundary" was not violated. Her relationship with Andrew had nothing to do with him helping Issa. Andrew didn't even know that Molly had refused to help Issa. She does not own Andrew, and he is allowed to talk to and work with other people, including Issa. I will not be satisfied with a reconciliation between Issa and Molly unless Molly grovels while begging for forgiveness. The only thing Issa did wrong in the argument was bring up Molly's relationship with Andrew, but she should apologize for that only if Molly apologizes first. I'm surprised that everyone left Issa there alone, especially Nathan. I know that she said she was okay, but how could she be? They shouldn't have even asked, "Are you sure you're okay?" They should have just stayed with her. I hope that Andrew drops Molly now that he has seen how unreasonable and nasty she can be.
-
I agree. Molly is being hyper-sensitive to anything Issa says or does. That parking spot fight was BS. Issa was there first. If Molly is angry that Issa isn't doing a dance of joy to celebrate her relationship with Andrew, she needs to tell Issa that instead of snapping at her, making assumptions, and mm-hmm-ing about Lawrence. Have they both been busy and unavailable, yes. But Issa seems to be taking it in stride, while Molly is huffy. Amen. So over this attitude.

There was a scene in the first episode of last season where Dro takes a call from Candice early one morning and he says, "I'm still at Molly's." I thought that was confirmation. The wardrobe choices in this episode were suspect. Molly's top was a definite no, but I also didn't like Issa's, Lawrence's or Condola's Thanksgiving outfits. Is this the first time we've seen Issa's mom? I get Molly's disappointment with her dad, but she did need to let it go. I'm in camp "your parents' marriage is none of your business" in this case because there was no abuse, and her parents had resolved the situation years before Molly even knew about it.

I kinda liked Derek. At first I thought he was going to be a boring dimwit, but he turned out to be fun. I was impressed with his sexy talk skills.
-
She said that thing parents say that's so devastating: I'm not mad, just disappointed. I thought she was disappointed in herself that she was having to fish out a condom because she was boning a dude who was careless enough to leave a condom inside her. She can do better.
