  1. As Shaw is incorrectly quoted as saying, "Two nations separated by a common language," or in this case a common sense of humour. It took me probably a decade of living in the USA before I found Seinfeld remotely funny.
  2. Can someone explain why anyone of sound mind would want to emulate a Kardashian? Oh, never mind, asked and answered.
  3. I'm guessing you're lucky enough to have never heard the Kardashians.
  4. Why do Humira commercials pronounce their product "Hyou-merra or "Who-merra" 'or "YouMerra? Nothing makes sense any more. Too much time on my hands these days.
  5. I've never understood this, and like you have stopped watching "baking competitions". How is massaging rice crispies and sugar water "baking"?
  6. I thought I was pedantic. I have a friend (from Kentucky, if that's at all relevant) who pronounces Mary, marry, and merry the same way.
  7. McCormick: "With McCormick by your side for over 130 years . . . ." How old does that make me?
  8. It's their wives/partners/girlfriends I have sympathy for.
  9. My experience (as child and parent) is that children love it when mum is out of town. Wear what you want, no bedtime rules, ice-cream for breakfast, takeout all the time, disposable dishes and cutlery (which on the rare occasions mum allows it she makes you wash and reuse), and what's laundry? In my book, yes she has.
  10. J just watched a preview. It felt so wrong, not because of the actors, but the music 😞
  11. What kind of stupid name is Chrishell? Especially "paired" with that giant pair of fake knockers.
  12. Her hair looked like my Barbie's nylon "do" after I spent too much time with the crappy hairbrush (in the early '70s).
  13. Back in the day when wedding cakes were traditional fruit cakes, the custom was to keep the top layer for the first christening. So only 9 months old at best! No freezing necessary with a proper fruit cake.
  14. Just to be clear, you didn't have the wedding your parents thought they were paying for, and you "kept the change" for a three month vacation? Your aunt's "crime" seems pretty insignificant by comparison. They're very handy for things that have rolled out of reach or have been shoved to the back of a too deep cupboard or appliance (see your next post!). Only the yanking and pinching of non-sentient articles!
  15. Welsh rarebit using fry bread and and a nice Welsh cheese!
  16. If you have Netflix, you might want to watch "The Social Dilemma." Then again, you might not.
  17. This is bringing back bad memories of the time my husband's supposedly super observant (married) religious friend asked us if we would put him and his even more ostensibly observant girlfriend up for the night in our spare bedroom. Our daughters were young, but old enough to wonder and ask questions. This was a couple of decades ago, but I'm still embarrassed about the hypocrisy.
  18. I find kitchen tongs are also multi-disciplinary utensils.
  19. You need a back scratcher my friend. (Inanimate ones are more reliable than semi-comatose housemates.)
  20. I live in state that is 100% vote by mail. Can someone explain why I (as a tax payer) am paying for the USPS to send out an oversized postcard telling us how to go about signing up to vote by mail?
  21. Pet peeve, stores putting out holiday merchandise earlier and earlier every year. Starbucks has had their pumpkin spice crap for weeks (somehow I know this and I don't even drink their over-roasted nastiness), Costco started selling nativity scenes at the beginning of August, maybe sooner (at that point I hadn't been inside a store since March).
  22. I just googled "student junk collectors" and got a lot of hits. The couple I looked at both addressed coronavirus and stuff not on the ground floor, also, taking just one item. Thanks. I think it's pretty rare that people can't alter their voices if they put the effort in. Margaret Thatcher is known for altering hers, though personally I find the change was for the worse, and the sound of her voice (in a recording) makes me nauseous.
