  1. I have a scar on my face. Once when I was probably 15 or 16, walking through the makeup department of Macy's to get to whatever place I actually wanted to be, one of the saleswomen ran after me. She told me that they had makeup that would cover up the scar (that I never even thought about). Way to boost a teenager's already shaky confidence, lady. Forty years ago.
  2. I'm wondering why you watched a show that you didn't enjoy.
  3. It's always gratifying to have it reaffirmed that I'm not "most people".
  4. Probably not as disappointed as the competitors. That was another pretty pathetic round.
  5. Alex is as likely to be infected by a local cameraman than by someone traveling from further afield.
  6. Sorry no - Hershey's chocolate still tastes like sick to me. (For some reason I can't add a link, but apparently I'm not the only one and there is a scientific cause for it related to butyric acid.)
  7. I'm willing to give Michelle the benefit of the doubt at the moment since I'm wondering, as a sufferer myself, whether she is "afflicted" by RBF (resting bitch face).

    The Judges

I can't stand him, especially because he is so pretentious and he can't back it up because his linguistic skills are so lacking.
  9. If you live near a supermarket with a kosher frozen section, you may find Green's babkes there.
  10. I can believe Hollywood has never been to a West End show. I'm sure my parents (also Northerners) never saw one, and the only one I've been to was Billy Elliot. A lot of houses in the UK have been sporting rainbow flags in support of the NHS. Not all flavours/ingredients are common in all countries. An American food professional (on Chopped maybe) recently referred to Spotted Dick as a savoury dish - it's a pudding. I agree Paul's bagels were too fluffy looking, and the way he sliced it directly towards his palm was horrifying. (There are many many visits to the ER because of bagel slicing accidents.)
  11. As someone said above, Phil explained that it was filmed before the pandemic. Did anyone else think Phil looked unwell in the opening - gaunt and pale? Of course, it didn't help that (like so many other male presenters at the moment) he seems to have forgotten how to shave properly.
  12. I hope Noah Reid dyed his hair for a role and not because he thought it was attractive.
  13. Not always. (I've never tried it, but I have seen it, live . . . .)
  14. Oh believe me, I eat plenty of mass produced chocolate, it's just that the way the milk used in Hershey's is treated that gives it a taste that most Brits find, shall I say, unpleasant!
  15. It's all very confusing! It's Saturday now and has turned up on Netflix. Still not on PBS until Sunday though! As Tears for Fears said: "Mad World".
  16. I watched the first episode of this series on PBS last week (on Friday), episode 2 is this Sunday In fact these days (at least on my local affiliate), if you miss it, it will be gone the next week unless you want to pay for their premium service. This is true for other shows, such as Call the Midwife. And I can't DVR. And half the time, Comcast chooses to ignore my "Series Reminder" requests. It's all very frustrating. Grr. Sorry, rant over.
  17. I agree that the baking is maybe not as good this year, but I realized that there were several constraints against the show because of coronavirus: the bakers had to have a very sympathetic employee who allowed them six weeks off work; they had to be financially able to take that time off; in some cases their families had to be able to manage without perhaps a fulltime caregiver; students wouldn't be able to take that amount of time off. And who knows how many who might have made it normally have already been horribly affected by the virus. (Normally they bake over the weekend and go home for the week.) Yeah, I'm utterly confused - where I am, PBS has it this week on Sunday whereas last week it was Friday. No idea when it will turn up on Netflix. It's not there when I check now. (I'm passing the time by watching the Baked Alaska-Gate series.)
  18. I'm watching a bunch of repeats and I'm really peeved by Bobby's win in the vegetable lasagna episode. The challenger made this very "cheffy" dish with artichokes. The judges loved it but said it wasn't lasagna. They liked Bobby's as more homey (it actually looked really unappealing to me). The problem I had was that Bobby basically ran out of time and threw the little casseroles onto the counter. One of the judge's dishes had actually broken, which to me should have automatically given the win to the challenger. Flay should have been mortified.
  19. Has this aired in the US? I thought it was on Fridays, and it is not on Netflix. Sorry, just saw the "Unaired in US" warning. Not everything that is stocked in one country is necessarily readily available in another. (And you'd have to shoot me before I'd eat Hershey's chocolate, and most Brits feel the same.) I love Rich Teas 🙂
  20. Yes, he would have been a viscount when his father was alive, and would have ascended to Marquess on his father's death. It bothers me when authors don't research properly, especially since I expect the author proudly touts the amount of research she did. (The Potato Society book annoyed me tremendously for this reason and I didn't get far into it.)
  21. People who eat while they're on the phone with you. Especially if they initiated the call. (And by "people" I mean my former sister-in-law.)
  22. If, as rumoured, Jo Brand replaces Sandi Toksvig, I will not be watching. I find her utterly unbearable and not in the least bit funny.
  23. She made the choice to leave, since she didn't want to become another Susan Lucci and be stuck in one role for the rest of her career.
  24. Just think of it as a highfaluting soap opera with good actors and enjoy the silliness!
