  1. If you guys are looking for something lovely to watch while waiting out the Outlander hiatus I recommend the British mini-series NORTH AND SOUTH. The book it's based on is very good too and available for free online because it's in the public domain.
  2. So I am kind of rooting for Wendy and Nero - which makes me afraid Mommie Dearest will kill them. Tig is an awful person like the rest of them but he does make me laugh sometimes, plus Kim Coates is such an awesome guy which colors all my reactions towards Tig more positively than they probably should.
  3. I was wondering why Dougal wants Claire to marry Jamie in particular. There must be other unmarried men who are not wanted she could marry. What about Dougal himself? We haven't met a wife of his, so maybe he is a widower or a bachelor. He seems a better choice to me because he has real power amongst the Highlanders to protect Claire in marriage. Unless Dougal has a particular reason for Claire to marry Jamie, a reason that has nothing to do with Claire and has to do with Jamie himself? What am I missing? This is so frustrating. ETA to add that I read your post Tif after I initially posted - yes! politics that has to be the reason...
  4. Is BJR punching Claire in the stomach and having the hapless young soldier kick her in the book too? I found both this moment and the flogging hard to watch but it sure brought across for me what a sick bastard Jack Randall is. Which was the point of showing it. I can't speak for the books and how much violence is in them but as somebody who has watched other programming on STARZ, in particular SPARTACUS, the violence and gore and sexual content in OUTLANDER so far is restrained and not pornographic.
  5. @psychoticstate - according to this website http://www.darkhorizons.com/features/1725/fall-2014-tv-series-premiere-dates Outlander Season 1 Part 2 returns January 2015. And they list OUTLANDER Season 2 as airing sometime in the latter part of 2015. I hope this information is correct.
  6. Those two have a lot of chemistry and the actor who plays Dougal has a very strong presence. You totally believe every minute he is on screen that he is a figure of authority and dangerous to cross. I am not shipping him and Claire though because even though he seems to like and respect Claire I am not convinced he wouldn't throw Claire to the wolves in a New York minute if he thought she was endangering his position or his cause. I am not shipping Claire and Jaime either. Yet. It's just too soon for me. I have to see them together more.
  7. I disagree that Claire deserved to be punched in the stomach and kicked. She has her flaws - who doesn't? - and her smart mouth is about equally a handicap and an asset but first of all I am not sure she was manipulating Jack Randall. It looked to me more like she was trying to appeal to his better nature and maybe looking for something of her husband in him. And finding out the hard way there was no better nature to appeal to. And even had she been trying to manipulate him - good for her. This man had been trying to rape her on first aquaintance and had brutally whipped a young man who had become Claire's friend almost to death. Being manipulated is the least Jack deserves if there was any justice.
  8. Yes, I have to say that rang a bit false that all these higher up English officers in that rooms seemed all incompetent and let a mere captain be so disrespectful to them. Whatever one may think of the British Empire it couldn't have reached the size it did and lasted for as long as it did by having incompetent officers. I realize of course that this show by its nature has a Scottish bias so I probably should chalk the scene up to that and move on.
  9. I was surprised that Jamie was a virgin. I know he is supposed be very young but even before he became a wanted man with a price on his head there must have been opportunities to roll around in the hay with some pretty tavern girl. There was such a double standard back then. Girls were expected to remain virgins until marriage but the same was certainly not true of young men. Jamie is one of a kind.
  10. As excellent as this episode was I don't think I can rewatch the Claire and Black Jack Randall scenes. I had to turn away from the horrible whipping and Jamie's mangled and torn back. And then Claire being sucker-punched believing for a moment that this unspeakable sadist (he was clearly getting off whipping Jamie almost to death) who wears her beloved husbands face - the ultimate mind fuck right there - actually was feeling remorse. I will re-watch from the moment Dougal rescues Claire - bless him - so I can enjoy Jamie's sweet face and Claire's reaction when she learns Jamie is a virgin. I am so grateful that the end of the episode gave me something to smile about.
  11. I am actually liking all of these guys - Angus, and Murtaugh and Dougal. I know they are flawed and some of their actions and behavior are not nice and dubious at best. But as long as I can see their humanity and sort of understand their flaws and their motivations I am not going to hate on them like they are some mustache twirling villain. I used to watch this HBO show DEADWOOD and some of the most interesting and complex characters on it, Al Swearengen and his men, were basically introduced as villainous and I came to love that bunch despite some of their actions. The only character that gave me the creeps right off the bat was Not!Frank and that was because of his hello and I am going to rape you now introduction.
  12. I think I would think less of Claire if she had already given up trying to get back to the stones and back to her husband. I am not a book reader but as a person who doesn't live in a media vacuum I am aware that she and Jamie are the big thing in this show. But I don't want Claire to be fickle and wishy-washy and just go "oh this Scottish hottie in the olden days I somehow ended up in clearly has the hots for me and we have much chemistry, so I am going to jump him and Frank who". That just wouldn't work for me. Any romantic relationship Claire and Jamie are going to have has to be earned so I can root for them as a couple. And to me they haven't earned that yet.
  13. Actually, if this show is based on the plot of Hamlet than both Gemma and Jax should die. Dare I hope?
  14. It seems to me we are supposed to shrug off all the deaths and the torture murder of the Chinese guy. I watched that after show special with the incompetent moderator talking with Sutter and Katey Sagal and the way Sagal was talking about her character made me seriously question her sense of morality. Going by her Gemma is basically "misunderstood" and all about protecting her family. It was pretty disgusting to listen to.
  15. What can you say about a show where you want the two main characters, mommie dearest and her precious baby boy, to just die. I used to really like Jax in the earlier seasons but I lost a lot of sympathy for him over time and tonight after he tortured that innocent guy to death I just want him gone. He is irredeemable and so is Gemma. Unfortunately I am not convinced that Gemma will get her comeuppance when all is said and done. She is like a cockroach living through the nuclear winter, probably still alive and justifying every one of her horrible crimes to herself after every other living being is gone.
  16. At least now I am pretty sure this thing wasn't totally rigged. I fully expected the blond married couple who look like siblings to win because they are so fitting into the HGTV mold. I was rooting for the brothers to win but I didn't have much hope they would.
  17. This was my favorite episode so far. I especially loved the scene of Claire joining the working women and the working song. And the way it was revealed that the men were raising funds for the Jacobite cause. Several times during this episode I got chills thinking here is Claire among these people knowing that their way of life will be coming to a brutal end in just a few years. That not only many will die but also their land and their language and their culture will be forcibly taken from them.
  18. I liked it. It was daffy but I thought Robin was charming and blithe and made a nice contrast to the Doctor who I guess is going to be Sir von Grumpy Pants every episode.
  19. If you had told me during the first season that it was Tig I was going to be rooting for to make it out alive going into the final season I would have not believed you.
  20. I don't understand what I did wrong and I don't know how to delete my post. Sorry.
  21. He may have been ready but I was not ready hearing him speak such sexy French. OMG he is so attractive. You should speak French all the time, Jamie. Funnily (for me, ha ha) I can understand French much better than the Scottish dialect.
  22. I like Nikolaj Coster Waldau from GAME OF THRONES. And Sam Heughan on OUTLANDER.
  23. I wanted to add that one thing I really liked about this episode was the female soldier. So I am hoping the speculation about her is true. I don't understand what the Doctors problem is with soldiers and the military in general. His antipathy towards them seems rather rigid and narrow-minded to me. Which is probably ironic in some way I am guessing.
  24. I don't know. I can't get into these Dalek episodes anymore. To me they are the WHO villain I can really do without now. This episode underwhelmed me. Going by the preview next week might be more to my taste.
  25. Thank you, bets! Much apreciated. I have VLC and it works just fine.
