  1. I bet that is similar to what actually happens. I also thought they'd make it so Nathan is Meredith's doctor in this episode to give them some kind of push. I would be more than okay with that scenario if that episode happened pre-season 10, honestly. But now the emotional impact of something like that would be minimal because we'd probably get acoustic covers of NSync or Britney during it.
  2. Kevin signing back on doesn't surprise me at all, he gets how-many-ever episodes put into his contract to direct, and that obviously interests him more. It's a win/win. He may even have negotiated and asked for more episodes to direct in future seasons. I'm actually pretty surprised Ellen hasn't gotten a vanity producer credit on the show (a la Julianna Margulies or Lauren Graham in season 7 of Gilmore Girls). You'd think her agents would be all over that as an incentive to get her an even higher pay-bump. Sara may actually choose not to re-sign this year. Sadly, they haven't given her any good storylines since season 9 and Callie is basically a non-entity on the show at this point. She might finally choose to go back to theatre and relocate to NY, which she's been wanting to do for a long time now. That said, the paycheck is good so she probably will be back. JCap is also signed on through season 14. Jesse is uninterested and probably wants to continue with his social justice stuff he does but Grey's does give him a good platform. I predict everyone will be back, even though at this point it'd be nice to see cast shake-ups again. Since Izzie and Alex, Mark and Lexie and MerDer, I've let go of these characters ending up with who they actually belong with and/or the logical progressions of their characters. The tv show is just a free-for-all now so anything that keeps it fresh in the inevitable years to come is alright with me. And cast departures and major changes often have really great arcs leading to them.

  4. Should I add a spoiler tag to the thread then? I'm fine with doing that, just unsure. I don't know what is considered a spoiler in this context, I guess. Like would an Ausiello tidbit count as a spoiler or news? Is anyone even gonna want to avoid spoilers?
  5. With set construction pictures popping up almost every day now and inevitably more tidbits surfacing over the next little while, I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to collect and discuss all those items in one place. Anything that seems spoiler-y will respectfully be posted under a spoiler cut for those looking to avoid such things, and responses to those items should do the same. ------ Luke's Diner Set Photos: Kim's Antiques is being rebuilt: Miss Patty's: Doose's/Black White & Read: Set photo with possible plot spoiler:
  6. AD just suffered from not having all the cast members in each episode, though. That was bound to backfire for, like you said, an ensemble comedy. Veronica Mars did their revival movie and it was super well done and supremely satisfying. I hope this is the same.
  7. I agree with a lot of the above sentiments, I too have thought about the repercussions of the revival and I was kind of nervous at the beginning about possibly disliking the directions they choose to take the characters in. But I've just been trying to remind myself that this was Amy's story from the beginning and that she never got a chance to end it the way she wanted to. Of course with the time that's gone by, that ending has changed, but seeing Lorelai and Rory in 2016 in this format feels less scary to me when I think about the fact that they are ultimately her creations, and if anyone would know what they'd be doing at this particular moment in time, it'd be her. No one knows the voice, the world, the characters, and their destinies better than the creator. David Rosenthal certainly did not. So I'm happy we get to see the *true* endings of these characters on the screen. For me, what's most nerve-wracking about this entire thing is how different the visual language, tone, feel etc of the show might be. The sets are being completely redone, the actors are a decade older and haven't stepped into these characters in just as long, there's better cameras, possibly higher budgets? which could lead to more sets and more locations, and so on and so forth. It seems like so much of the show's charm was something it was forced into by network constraints. Seeing Rory in an exterior shot in New York City instead of on a poorly-disguised NYC on their WB Backlot, for example, would actually feel out of place to me. I just want it to feel like Gilmore Girls even if things are different. I personally want the show to slot in with the other 7 seasons without it being out of place. So as of this moment I'm mostly thinking about the technical aspects of this revival as opposed to the story aspects. Will they re-do the opening credits with new clips? Use just a title-card? Have brand new credits? These details, while small, will matter to most fans. And it ultimately comes down to whether Amy and Dan want this to feel like it's own new thing, or a continuation as if they never stopped. Like I said before, I'd prefer the latter. There's also the matter of what feels real, and what would be pandering to fans. Would Luke and Lorelai really still be living in her house after 9 or so years? Would they really have not gotten married in that time, would they not have a kid? If they save these stories so fans can see them on screen, it will be unrealistic. Huge changes, although jarring, will be necessary for any semblance of realism. I'd be fine with not seeing the 'Crap Shack' or the Jeep again - as comforting and essential as they feel to the show, a lot of time has passed. Also, not sure if this has been posted anywhere but there's a new picture of them doing set construction on Luke's Diner:
  8. It was certainly odd. We know Rory wasn't the best at cooking. Unless you count radiator quesadillas ;)
  9. I have a feeling they'll start filming around June and it'll be a VERY tight shoot with most of the busy actors like Jared, Milo etc. They'll probably only do each scene once, maybe twice, and get them in the can ASAP. Similar to how the VM movie handled all their cameos. There's also the matter of the Stars Hollow WB backlot. Isn't that still used by Pretty Little Liars or some other show? They'll have to work around that filming schedule as well. So yeah, this isn't going to be easy to schedule if they want all those other cast members to return. For me personally, I would be actively upset if we don't see Paris in it. She was one of my favourites. I'd say the chance of Melissa McCarthy being in it is hovering somewhere around 3% so if anything I hope they mention what happened to her character.
  10. Milo has a new show coming; Liza, Matt and Melissa have ongoing TV shows. This is going to have to be a quick shoot if they want to include these characters (I doubt Melissa will be in it anyway). Also, Alexis is pregnant and Lauren is starting production for a new film soon as well. I wonder how Alexis' pregnancy will effect it. Hope they don't have to hide her pregnancy. That kind of stuff is always painfully obvious on-screen.
  11. Most if not all of the special features can be found on YouTube. I wouldn't buy the DVDs at this point, especially because the show is now available in much higher quality (in widescreen high-definition) on other services such as iTunes, Amazon Prime and Netflix.
  12. I wish they would've brought back Dr. Wyatt. Her arc with Meredith in the post-strike season 4 episodes is still one of my favourite things the show has done.
  13. I don't know why but I have this strange feeling she won't even be asked back.
  14. Krysten Ritter has a big show coming out soon, I think. I don't think Amy would want to bring back a character she didn't create, anyway. The funny thing is, all of Rory's boyfriends are so deeply connected to the Gilmore universe that it wouldn't feel completely false to have all three come back. Dean is most likely still living in Stars Hollow, Jess is Luke's nephew, Logan is connected to the grandparents through Mitchum and Shira, and if they decide to go ahead with a Richard funeral, it wouldn't be completely unrealistic that Logan (at least the Logan of season 6b and 7) would show up with his parents or on behalf of his parents to pay his respects. For those who fear that it doesn't seem in the realm of possibility that Rory would still be pining after her high school or college boyfriends, I prefer to think of it more as a reconnection, rather than pining. Similar to how, in the Veronica Mars Movie, Veronica and Piz had been broken up in the 8 years the show was off the air and had just reconnected a few months prior. The only way it would make sense to me is if Rory and Jess see each other after years and - as their current, adult selves - feel a new spark and connection. And the reason I mention Jess is because I truly believe that he is who Rory will end up with when the story concludes. If she's not ending up alone or with someone new, it's going to be Jess. I think the way the Palladino's wrote his character into season 6 and the fact that Amy wanted to contract him for 6 seasons and then planned a spinoff around him is enough proof of my personal theory. But that's a discussion for another thread ;) This may be an unpopular opinion, but I actually would like to see Christopher. I think he's a huge part of the show's canon as Rory's father and especially with the large role he had in the final two seasons, it'd be nice to get some kind of update on how he's doing and how Gigi is doing. Nothing huge, just a couple of scenes or mentions. I don't think Amy would bring him back just to create unnecessary relationship drama at this point unless she truly believes he belongs with Lorelai, with such little time to tell the stories, it seems highly unlikely. I'm also seeing a lot of discussion around the internet that Lorelai should be pregnant or getting married in this upcoming season and I for one am really against that happening. In my mind, there's no way Luke and Lorelai didn't get married in the 8 years since that graduation party. And a 47-year old Lorelai having a child just doesn't sit right with me, for some reason. I think Luke and Lorelai being married with a 5 or 6 year old would be the perfect situation to open this new season up with. Also, since news regarding the revival is still being posted in the Media thread, is this just a speculation thread or what? Kind of confused as to where to post about certain things.
  15. Our original MAGIC interns were competing for solo surgeries as early as seasons 3 and 4, I believe. The sparkle pager was season 4, IIRC. I find that these new residents take way longer to become experienced surgeons because the writers like to keep the older characters as their teachers. I found the same thing with Lexie, by the time she died she was in her fourth year and wasn't doing much. And I believe they should be more than third year residents. We count the intern year, don't we? MAGIC were second year residents in seasons 4 and 5. Season 9: Intern year Season 10: 2nd year residents Season 11: 3rd year residents Time Jump: 4th year residents Season 12: 5th year residents If the show keeps up with that timeline Ben, Stephanie and Jo should be taking their boards at the end of this season.
  16. Shouldn't Jo and Stephanie be fifth year residents?
  17. I'd actually rather he be her love interest than Martin Henderson at this point.
  18. I haven't wanted to comment about this, especially because I don't like saying negative things about other groups of fans, but it kind of needs to be said at some point... As someone who has been watching this show since the pilot, I'm kind of deeply saddened by all the backtracking that's going on. Shonda, Ellen, the cast, the producers, and also the new 'Netflix generation' of fans on Twitter are fully rewriting history at this point. It's one thing to kill off Derek, it's another to pretend like he wasn't important or the show was never about his relationship with Meredith. That's not only legitimately and objectively false, it's insulting to those of us with half a brain who can see that that's always been one of the MAIN storylines of the show, often times taking precedent over Meredith and her character's personal development. I've seen fans on Twitter responding to people saying Alex didn't get enough screentime apart from being Meredith's person this past season with statements like "Alex doesn't need a story. The show is called GREY's Anatomy". That seems to have become a new mantra around the fandom and it's clear to me that a heavy level of brainwashing has taken place, whether that includes a new image on facebook or twitter saying "her story continues" with only Ellen's picture, or Ellen giving an interview, or Shonda sending out a tweet. Whatever it is, it's a deliberate tactic used to keep the teenagers (who want the show to continue for another 12 seasons since most of them only caught up a season or two ago) interested, and also to make the storytelling feel less...shitty and convoluted. We have to kill Derek off? Easy. We just say the show was never about him or his relationship with Meredith, we belittle the character's importance. And in doing so, make the old fans feel less intelligent or that they were wrong to think he was important in the first place. I won't even get into the drama with Patrick. The show has always been an ensemble, no matter what comes out of Ellen Pompeo's mouth. She's making herself look super ungrateful and extremely unaware of reality to those of us who don't have fan twitter accounts with her name in the username. Patrick Dempsey helped build this show. Meredith and Derek's relationship built the show. It's easy to think that isn't true when you didn't watch the show being built and only tuned in when it had already been on for nearly a decade. And, in the cast/crew's case, it's easy to get defensive, put on a mask, and say those things when it's your job and you're covering up a story (both on-screen and off) you know is ugly. I like Ellen and Shonda, but they really have no right to be annoyed with fans asking questions about Derek and MerDer. That's literally like JK Rowling getting offended about Hermione questions and going "the books are about Harry". It really makes no sense and is disrespectful to our mental capacity. It's clear to me that those of us who have stuck around for 11 years aren't really valued in the viewership anymore. We just don't have a place in it. I guess it just makes me kind of irritated that this is the place we've gotten to with this show. I have nothing but fond memories of watching the early and middle seasons (hell, even the last few ones), but knowing that the cast and crew are sweeping the show's history under the rug to continue making millions off it just leaves me with an icky feeling that won't go away. And I'd feel differently if the fans weren't doing the same. It all just once again makes me think of money, contracts, behind-the-scenes drama, pettyness and cover-ups instead of the show and the story they're telling. And this time is 500 times worse than Katie Heigl or Isaiah Washington because of Derek and Patrick's importance to the show. I really didn't expect the show to go this way. I learned to 'follow the journey' after the plane crash (and the show was still good for a couple of seasons there) but it's getting to be a bit much - the longer the show runs, the more character assassinations occur (literally and figuratively) and I can't help but think maybe those of us who are like-minded should just leave this burning ship once and for all, throwing away our hopes of seeing an ending that's tied with a nice bow (since it's clearly too late for that).
  19. It's gonna be Meredith's eventual love interest, of course.
  20. Predictable, as always. Grey's Anatomy Season 12: ABC’s still-durable medical soap is looking to add a major new male presence
  21. I'm wondering if the three 'sisters' will be living together at the Ellis house? Maybe Maggie in the attic a la Lexie?
  22. Not too bad. It's obvious the show was still suffering from the backlash of rewrites and the major nip/tuck that took place halfway through. Messy and mediocre, but acceptable. I liked the final scene with the dancing and especially that final shot. It almost seems like they're kind of doing a soft reboot? with Meredith moving into the old house (most likely with tons of roommates even though she has three kids), etc. Maggie putting her head on Mer's shoulder was reminiscent of the iconic Cristina/Meredith bar scene. Bailey becoming chief eventually will be nice. But why wasn't this JPJ's final episode? Would've been a nice sendoff for him to retire and move to Boston. I like his character but he's run his course on the show, IMO. I had two major issues with the episode: 1) I hate how they made the voicemail/Derek's final new scene ever on the show about Amelia (and to some degree Owen) rather than Meredith. 2) I hate that they're going through with getting rid of the dream house...
  23. Yeah, it'd never happen but I agree with you. The only way I'd want Katie back though is if definitively Shonda decided Izzex should end up together. The love story between those two was beautiful in season 5, before Shonda chose to ruin it in season 6. If Izzie ever came back which I think we can fully rule out (it won't happen), I would want Izzie and Alex to get to that place again. I like Jolex but they're just boring. Even when they had stories in season 9 and 10 I found them to be a bit of a snooze.
