Josiah and Lauren: He Has To Marry Somebody
Temperance replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
It was really the musical (The Sound of Music) that changed the timeline. The movie was following the musical's timeline although it left a lot out. -
It's been a while since I saw this, but Stephen Colbert talked about eating quickly since he was the youngest of 11. His family was relatively wealthy.

Some of the young women I know have more job/education/ways to support themselves (like the Bates girls and Abbie Burnett) and some of the young women are more like the Duggar girls (in terms of education/jobs/ways to support themselves). Generally young women are allowed to get married younger with the idea they can be housewives or find little ways to bring money in. I've known a few young men who have some ideas about how to support themselves and have gotten married, only to find themselves less able to support the family than they anticipated. In one case, money issues contributed to the divorce, and another young couple is living in a house owned by her family. I tend to think that most fundie families try to encourage their kids to find ways to suport themselves. However some families don't have the money to help the kids establish a career, or they want their kids to get married and move out, or they think God will provide, or they think young marriage is Godly, etc. -

That People article is dated yesterday, but her baby was born in February. Why do the story now? -

I don't agree. They're four of the oldest five girls. It's normal in their world. -

I also read her autobiography and looked it up on wikipedia and those sources did not mention a pregnancy during her wedding. (Her autobiography is not surprising, but wikipedia usually knows.) It would have been a loss, because her children with the captain are born too far into the marriage for her to be pregnant at the wedding! -

I don't agree with some of this. Josh got married young, due to the reasons we all know now. However he was only a year and a half younger than Josiah and 2 and a half years younger than Joe. Then came the girls, because they wanted to get married and were willing to marry people they met. I think most of them wanted to leave the house and were told they had to be married to move out. I think Jana has been pickier and more content at home than her sisters. (That's her right.) I think they were trying to marry JD off for years before he and Abbie decided to court. Based on the fundies, I've met in real life, marrying young is not unusual. It gives them something to do, it allows to act on their "sinful" desires, it gives them "status as adults", it allows for more separation from their parents, some are eager to have families of their own, and in the case of where adult children have been trained to live at home until marriage, it allows them to move out. That last item about the parents convincing/training/forcing their children to live at home until marriage makes the age of marriage drop more than the other factors from what I've seen. I think it's a very harmful practice to not let adults leave if that's their desire. In the real world, the Duggars get married young, but for fundies/fundie-lites they are not that young. As for the -Iah twins, they will be 20 next year and that is the same age as Josh and younger than Ben so it would not surprise me if they got married next year. -
For some reason, Jana stands out to me in the group pic.

I was on social media and there was a promotion for a group dedicated to the Duggars (their megafans). They linked an article about Jinjer and the baby. The Duggar fan group post this article with a caption "We can't wait for them to have another one." The baby is less than a month old. I'm shaking my head at the caption, and I didn't bother with the article or the group.

Josh's oldest son has the middle name James.

Actually even I noticed it seemed to be Felicity in honor of St. Felicity, I don't think it's really once Catholic, always Catholic. Some as smart and/or as educated as Jeremy probably knows that the early church was the foundations of all Christainity. A lot of fundie Christians and/or evangelicals like stories about the early church. I'm positive they meant the early church martyr Felicitas (Felicity) and not the more recent St. Felicity. I think the name was chosen in part, because it's pretty, and it will really appeal to most of the fans.

Yes Joe probably eats that quickly for the same reason Jill used to take her plate and eat in the bathroom.

I went to Lily and Ellie's blog. There are a few comments about how people wish the absent Duggars were back on the show, but not as many comments as often gets represented. I think the viewers are looking for the whole family together to complete their fantasy version of the Duggars. It's less about the individual people and more about the Duggars being a united family. I also get the sense that people miss Anna and Jill and their children more than their husbands which makes sense. Part of the appeal of this show has always been cute little kids. I'm still not sure why the Dillards aren't on television. Derick's tweets seem to have started after they had been let go. I think possibly Jill's midwifery efforts would be liability for any network foolish enough to show her being a midwife. It's one thing for them to show a family member (like Joy) in labor and have something go wrong, but a stranger with no loyal to the network could end up suing if something went horribly wrong.

There is a lot about greek gods and culture in the new testament. You would think that the would-be ministers would have annotated copies of the new testament that would explain this character or that one is named a greek deity. Apparently none of them mentioned Artemis despite there's a chapter in Acts of the Apostles that talks about her specifically.

This was filmed a long time ago. Their fourth anniversary is 3 months away. Based on social media pictures and that US weekly article, we would know if they were expecting a blessing in less than 3 months.

I don't know about the latest weddings, but some of the Duggars had the reception at the church/parking lot and the afterparty at the TTH. We saw a video filmed of Michelle at one of the afterparties. (Also a younger Josie was in the video.) These latest receptions where they are sitting down at tables, may not have the same kind of after party. I don't expect too much of a difference between this wedding and most of the Duggar weddings. I do think her mother will be more involved since her kids are all grown and many of them are married and moved out. -
I don't get the sense Nuri is desparate to get away from her family. I think she would really liked to be married, because that is the next step in her life according to their culture and getting married gives you a certain status. However I think she's happy enough with her family and her mother. A lot like Jill Duggar in this respect.

According to internet, the author is from Little Rock, AR. She sells trinkets and books on the internet. It's possible Jill has met the author.
