  1. Per Jeopardy Archive, Jeff Smith's Coryat score was $23,200 which is high. So he was a good player. But yes, he lost fair and square according to the rules of the game as hundreds of contestants over the years have. He missed FJ and he missed both Daily Doubles he found. You do that and you probably will lose. I, too, am getting skeptical about the second-chance tournament. I thought it was a good idea at first, but I now think it's so the producers can put together games they think will be close and featuring contestants they want to showcase. 10 of the 18 in the second chance pool are women, while only 4 of the top 14 on the TOC qualifier list so far are women.
  2. Oh, I forgot we were in reruns now. Just turned on the TV to see Matt Amodio's grinning face. Turned off the TV. Nothing against Matt per se. I'll watch some of the reruns, but it's not "appointment TV" for me.
  3. I saw Cheech Marin on an episode of Home Economics recently, and I remembered he was one of the best Celebrity J! players years ago. Cheech became famous for his pothead persona back in the 1970s. Maybe this was just an act because being both a stoner and a Jeopardy! champ do not seem congruent. Neither are most potheads still going strong as an actor in their mid-70s.
  4. Primetimer just created a new forum for Celebrity Jeopardy! https://forums.primetimer.com/forum/5012-celebrity-jeopardy/ I didn't even know about this new show; I guess it was announced last month for a Sept start.
  5. I guess I am in that minority with you I don't know why people insist there must be only ONE host. Could have 4 or 5, Might make things more interesting. And yes, "it's show first, host or hosts second" I never particularly love or hate individual contestants the way some viewers do. And I don't love or hate any of the hosts in the past couple of years,
  6. Yeah, Duck Amuck is really famous and considered one of the classic cartoons. It was only the $200 clue, so the J! writers thought it was easy, too.
  7. Matt got both DDs in the second round incorrect, but still finished the second round with 16,600. Overall today was a better played game than yesterday.
  8. Ugh, what is Ken Jennings doing on my screen? William was down to nothing two-thirds of the way through the game but made a big comeback. A tie-breaker? I think we have noticed before: the tie-breaker clues are always easy. The main thing is to ring in first.
  9. Hey Anmol, I said Metamorphosis, too, before hearing a disappointed Mayim correct us that it's Metamorphoses. I did not come up with FJ - disappointed in myself because those topics were in my wheelhouse. Alex would have liked champion Emily if only because she won a lot of money.
  10. Abbott also was nominated for: Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series
  11. I still think Abbott should have gotten a directing nomination (not that I know all that much about TV production). The academy really loves paid TV. Especially Ted Lasso.
  12. I think they should have just ruled Peroxide correct. In industry when people say Peroxide they mean hydrogen peroxide. If you type "peroxide" in Google, the top five results are all about hydrogen peroxide.
  13. Writing and directing. Most comedies take a season to hit their stride. Abbot Elementary hit it right out of the gate. That could be attributed to talent behind the camera, casting, luck, or some combination thereof. I bet they get nominated for writing or directing. Those awards go to specific episodes rather than the series as a whole. Randall Einhorn is listed a director of the first five episodes, and Quinta Brunson is the primary writer of the first two episodes. So I would not be surprised if one or both of them get the nod.
  14. Another good FJ wager from Megan today. I often criticize players for poor wagering, so I have to give credit to Megan during her run. She's had luck for sure. Today she needed luck to win when going into FJ in third place. But I think many players would have found a way to still lose even with this good luck. Megan has been playing it just right.
  15. Another good FJ wager from Megan. Even if she hasn't racked up a lot of money, she's making for some interesting games.
  16. Things I learned watching Jeopardy! today: Napalm is partially named from the ingredient palmitate. Those light fixtures on walls are called sconces. Phil Donahue is still alive.
  17. After our moderator hid a post, I figured that meant Ryan lost. And Aaron was ahead for most of the game, so I ready to say goodbye to Ryan. But FJ saved him. Aaron bet 0 in FJ. He would have felt really bad if he had got it right. Even if you think the category is not your best, I think you still have to assume you will get FJ correct and bet appropriately.
  18. Yes, Ryan was lucky today because he did not play well. Per Jeopardy Archive, he got 7 questions wrong, including two daily doubles. I don't think I've ever seen someone do that poorly and still not only win, but win in a runaway. Not a well-played game.
  19. I think the network will just look at the ratings when making a renewal decision. Although Savage was doubtlessly important in establishing this new show (he directed several episodes), now that it's going I think others can fill in. He was one of four executive producers. Saladin K. Patterson is credited as the creator, and is the "showrunner". I think they'll be fine.
  20. We speculated on this forum that Bruce would meet with misfortune in Vietnam. I didn't expect to hear about it in this episode. I wonder if this means they will be bringing him back as a regular/semi-regular character. The goose grease stuff was funny, as was the bickering between dad and granddad. They took blood samples with those scary-looking needles in the 60s? No wonder people didn't like going to the doctor. And a side reference to the infamous Tuskegee syphilis study.
  21. The kids on Happy Days used to employ the euphemism "submarine races". Before tonight that's the only place I heard that term.
  22. Many Jeopardy! fans were concerned when Dr Oz got some hosting time. Dr Oz is known to flirt with pseudoscience and unproven miracle weight loss supplements. On his website he now has an article: "What Your Astrological Sign Can Tell You About Your Health" UNFIT FOR JEOPARDY.
  23. I saw the date in the upper left. Took me a sec to figure out why they put it there. I think this was enough. They can't change the show to respond to world events, and most viewers understand the episodes are recorded in advance.
  24. I didn't get that either. Fruit was a pejorative term for gay people decades ago, but I don't think many viewers in 2022 would make that connection. I thought his dislike of fruit pies was a continuation of his finickiness. Very few people dislike pizza, and very few dislike apple pie.
