Yes, all these are worrisome/scary for those who are directly impacted, but a King is not ascending a throne on 01/20/25. The budgets are already in place for nearly everything until the Fiscal Year ends on 09-30-25. Only so much can be done with an executive order, and executive orders generally require funding, which has to be approved by Congress. MAGA has a 1-vote margin in the new House, so all it takes is a couple GOP-ers to slow things down, or even one to take ill and be away from chambers. There are plenty of Republicans on the ACA or using Medicare. Not a single Trump nominee will even have hearings until the new Senate begins work in a month. Whoopi rarely makes valid points, but her point that it is pointless to get all up in a tizzy, or to get sucked into the Orange chaos, is pretty good advice. After all, there is not much anyone can do other than live a responsible life. Sure join up with advocacy groups, do some internet research, maybe get a health checkup, but don't be spending yourself into debt buying holiday gifts or planning extravagant getaways. Ultimately, everyone has to be prepared for anything that can happen. Ana and Whoopi are saying the same thing.

DOOL and SORAS. They go hand in hand. Maggie is also Julie's aunt (via Mickey). Maree Cheatham is 84, a few years older than Suzanne Rogers (81) and SSH (81). Julie began as a high school student in 1965 and was aged into her 20s pretty quickly. Her son David was most famously portrayed by Richard Guthrie, who was just 9 years younger than SSH. Even worse, her grandson Scotty was portrayed by Rick Hearst, who was born just 22 years after SSH. It's not uncommon to be a grandmother at 46. Except her grandson was 24.

Doug goosed Paulina as they waited for the elevator at University Hospital. Although we didn't get scenes, they did share grandchildren. Doug spent a lot of time (off screen) with his (great)(step)grandchildren Jules and Carver. Also, Paulina is the current Mayor of Salem. Doug was Mayor for many years. And although few of us admire Jackee's acting style, she is arguably the most well-known and famous cast member. People have known her for decades. And she does have a primetime Emmy.

In past years, when they has summer pretapes for Friday, Joy moderated. Whoopi was long gone by noon. There's no reason to believe that will change. Joy announced that her play/performance will kick into gear in January. A dark Friday probably helps her maintain her "Friday" moderation. Joy gets the three-day work week after 28 years. Also, they do not use the same audience for both shows. You have to request tickets for the 11AM show or the 1230PM show. I'm sure some folks "double-up". Someone upthread mentioned that the show is often pre-recording segments of the "live" show earlier than the 11AM airtime, mostly to accommodate the guest (and maybe when they have to re-format the stage for a performance). That is likely what is driving Whoopi to be so fawning over the "familiar" audience.

With the election over, looks like the show is back to pre-taped Fridays when the show returns in 2025. No Friday tickets offered in Jan. Two shows on Thursdays. https://1iota.com/show/385/the-view

<<<I don't have Peacock>>> I realize that this may be a personal choice, but Peacock has annual plans often deeply discounted as low as $20 for the entire year. They will likely have a Black Friday deal as well. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/peacock-year-of-streaming-20-deal_l_6728f336e4b0266a3458331a#:~:text=Just use promo code PEAT4VNFWRKCTAK,subscription — a 75% discount! https://slickdeals.net/f/17861880-1-year-peacock-premium-streaming-tv-service-ad-supported-20-more-new-or-returning-customers Also, if you already pay for Comcast Xfinity Cable, once you are a customer for 10 years, you become a "platinum" rewards member. Peacock is free for those members. If you have the 1G mega internet package with Comcast, Peacock is free. -

The 2024 DOOL Halloween episode was a somewhat self contained tribute to Marlena's murderous ways and Melaswen. 10 cast members were murdered in under 30 minutes. Marlena was unmasked as the murderer ("because Leo kept writing her character into the scripts after she agreed to do only one episode"). I did chuckle when Kate was revealed as the one who brought them to the island of Weivenip. It was all explained as a Leo Stark Dream. -

One of the big reasons they pre-tape Thursday and Friday is that it allows the studio to remain dark (unused). All the affiliated infrastructure costs, including all the costs for security and lighting and sound makeup/hair and guest services, are eliminated. It can't be a huge savings, but it's still a savings. Plus all those behind the scenes union technical staffers get to work 3 days and have two days off to pick up freelance work. We have no idea what kind of contract the hosts have. If they have a suggested "leave the show" date in mind, it isn't public. Competitive Kelly may want to outlast Regis' tenure. Or they may want to bag it all once Joaquin graduates and Bob Iger leaves ABC. Honestly, ratings are sky-high, buzz remains strong, and this isn't a current events program. Viewers that want that have already fled to Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, or The View. The move to the new studio may change things up a bit. They will no longer be so isolated, although I have noticed that GMA isn't rushing to move to the mega-complex. -

In theory, B+S had potential. The soap genre just begs for mockery at times. I found some of the "insider" jokes sorta amusing, with recasts and returning from the dead and SORAS. But turning it into an umbrella story that involved random members of the cast was the Big Mistake. Especially since no one had ever aspired to being "actors". I am not sure what would have worked. Maybe if they had made it into some type of one-time-only reunion show of the past B+S iteration. Or one of the original B+S cast could be writing a tell-all memoir. After all, Kate Roberts DiMera Brady was in publishing. That would make more sense than what we have seen. Heck, anything would have made more sense. Johnny DiMera needs a new career. Both his directing projects have gone kaput. -
Bonnie taking a tumble down the elevator shaft is probably "Body and Soul" related, or at least related to the curse which Hattie hurled onto the production. The mystery man with Julie could be JT Reiber, although I am pulling for it to be Doug's grandson via "Little Dougie LeClair". Doug fathered "little Dougie" but let his BFF Robert LeClair raise him in France. I like that Ciara opened the metal box. Actually am glad it hasn't been forgotten. After all, her mother Hope is the one who opened Tom Horton's mystery puzzle box. Like Mother, Like Daughter. I just hope the contents lead to some interesting stories/mysteries.

Live With Kelly And Mark - General Discussion

I do wonder about that. Joaquin will graduate from college soon, and that often is a benchmark for many married couples. I presume that Mark signed at least a three-year contract, as that was Ryan's initial agreement. We are nearly halfway through that three years. Clearly the three-days-at-the-studio work schedule is very talent-friendly. Not many would walk away from that, and the millions of dollars in salary. I know a few folks here who will throw up a bit in their mouths, but Kelly has banked probably close to half a billion dollars during her quarter-decade at WABC and Live. That's stunning for anyone. And also indicative of how lucrative the syndicated market has been. Sure, it's less crazed right now, but their little old show is still top of the heap. The show moves to a huge, modern facility at some point next spring. That will change the dynamic for both hosts. It will be a different routine. They will likely have more space than they ever imagined. There will be new faces in the hallways and new procedures to follow. Look at how it's already changed The View. Their stage is twice the size and they look like ants marching out in the cavernous studio. Art Moore's departure will also play into this. Yes, you can fake appreciation, but I think both Consuelos really admired/appreciated whatever the heck he had done for them through the years. It seemed that Art was a big advocate for Kelly since she arrived on the scene. Their production company has yet to hit a homerun. It's barely noticeable. I listened to her podcast when it first started, but its so exhausting and the 40 minute interviews are rarely groundbreaking. I suspect a plan has already been developed. Gelman has been around even longer, so you have to wonder when he will decide he wants to spend his time away from the city. The staff is probably one thing that keeps Kelly, Mark, and Gelman showing up. So many of their staffers are lifers. No show can go on forever. No co-host duo is forever. Just like Ryan, Mark will likely agree to more than his original contract. He clearly wants to keep acting. -

Yes, WABC is moving their entire operation to the new Disney building. The View co-hosts have been saying for weeks that the building/facility is humongous. Joy keeps getting lost (or so the joke goes). Kelly and Mark will only be there Mon-Tue-Wed. GMA is allegedly moving in 2025, although there are plenty of articles out from earlier in 2024 saying GMA does not want to move, so we will find out next year. https://www.newyorkyimby.com/2024/08/disneys-new-york-headquarters-completes-construction-at-7-hudson-square-in-hudson-square-manhattan.html -
Live With Kelly And Mark - General Discussion

I have never really understood the Hate Watch thing, but it's a thing for many programs and many people who visit message boards. I enjoy Live, don't really care all that much whether it's on tape (I live in CA. Virtually everything but award shows and sports are on tape), and think that Mark has rejuvenated the show (and Kelly) in so many ways. Never have tuned in for the interviews. I am there for Host Chat. I rarely watch the guest interviews, but when I do watch beyond the first 22 minutes, the guests always seem really jazzed to be there at 9AM (or 11A for the Thursday/Friday shows). I have watched since 1987, when Regis and Kathie Lee first launched the syndicated show. Time magazine called it one of the best new shows of 1987 - not best new daytime show, but among all new television programs that season. Kelly and Mark may be the best co-host combo since then. The Host Chat may be overly-reliant on news tidbits, though many of them do lead to discussions between the co-hosts. They seem to have found a balance between the planned topics and sharing the events in their lives. The show will be moving to the new studio some time next year. Art Moore gave that as one reason he was retiring. Kelly and Gelman and the WABC management are likely spending huge chunks of their time plotting that move. She has been an ABC team player for over three decades, the show is top-rated in its category, and the hosts just won Emmys. Does the occasional leg shake, repeat outfit, or exaggerated stammer make me turn it off. Nope. -
Like Sand Through an Hourglass: Behind the Scenes of DOOL

Back in the early 80s, Andre DiMera wore a Wayne Northrup Roman Brady mask and went on a killing spree. Roman faked his death and went into hiding. Alice, Bo, Anna, Eugene, and Marlena were the only ones who knew Roman was alive, and were the few who believed he was not guilty. Bo and Alice arranged for Marlena and Roman to have a romantic reunion. Of course, Marlena became pregnant (with the twins). Everyone did the math, and knew that Roman was dead. Eugene stepped up and claimed to be Baby Daddy. A clueless Dr Tom Horton stepped in and arranged a surprise wedding for his staff psychiatrist and her patient-turned-bestie. I cannot recall if Alice told Tom the truth before or after the quick ceremony. I think she told him before, but the Hortons decided it was best to go through with the ruse, to protect Roman on the run. -

A now-widowed Eugene Bradford would be a nice return to Salem. His wackiness could help Marlena work through her loss. Yes, their marriage was short-lived, and invalid, but the chemistry was always off the charts. -
Who's related to whom? Family trees gone wild

You missed the excellence that was "santeen" ? /ha/ Shirley Partridge herself identified John Black as the secret love child of Santo DiMera and Colleen Brady, aka Ryan Brady. Even though he was decades too young. We later learned that Ryan Brady had also died years earlier and that Colleen was semi delusional while on her deathbed. John reverted to being an (adopted) Alamain, until he morphed into a Robicheaux (although I guess he still was adopted by Daphne DiMera's sister, Philomena). https://daysofourlives.fandom.com/wiki/Colleen_Brady#:~:text=Colleen Brady is a character,by Shirley Jones in 2008. -

Lamon Archey and Sal Stowers are in the Horton family tree. Drake was not listed when the original DoD announcements were made. So it's not a change from earlier. -
LOL We did the drag thing in Beyond Salem II. That was enough. I meant that RSW would be playing both Alex Kiriakis and Ben Weston. Another site tracks how often RSW films. He seems to be at the studio way more often than just about anyone else. Or he just brags about it more.

Sorry, but quoting never seems to work for me... Yes, I believe the PR for ALM indicated that it was a year-long contract. Not that it means anything in the real world. There simply has to be more to this than MasterMind Clyde pulling strings from behind bars. As I mentioned before, the show has introduced an entire family of seemingly good people, carefully woven them into the fabric of Salem, and made them generally pleasant townfolk. We don't know anything about Clyde's wife (other than what Jordan, Ben, and Clyde have said about her.) Could she still be alive and be the Greene Matriarch? It could explain why RSW is filming at the studio all the time -- if Ben's mother is still alive and he is playing two roles. And why would the Greenes be so focused on faking out the DiMeras? For that matter, why in the world would Clyde be so insistent on ALM becoming Mrs Chad DiMera? And why is John Robicheaux Black involved in this ? I know folks love to trash Ron, but he has been good at using DOOL history. Sure, sometimes it misfires (see The New Renee DiMera). I have been racking my brain trying to figure out who he could pull from the history as Someone Wronged by the DiMeras, because I believe he put ALM in the DiMansion and not in HortonLand. Another complication is the ages of the Greenes. They span mid 30s to teens. So plausibly they would have to be recent DiMera Victims. Stefano has been dead for awhile. Same with Andre. Elvis was away from Salem. Same with Kritter. Stefan/Jake didn't even know they were DiMeras until recently. And Tony, Anna, and Chad don't do evil. So Clyde hatches this whole plan because Elvis put him in jail? That's weak and nonsensical. (and some of you are saying "yup, that's Ron")... So who are the Greene parents? I could see that taking a long time to unravel/reveal. I can think of two somewhat recent DiMera Victims. Both are dead. Could they have been happily involved with Mother Green? Benji Hawk. When he was murdered in 2007, he allegedly only had a baby son. So seems unlikely. There is peripheral John Black involvement, although I suspect Ron would have used Steve/Kayla since they raised Benji for an extended time. Bart Biederbecke. We know nothing of his backstory. Could he have been married/divorced from Mother Greene and had four off-screen children? Andre murdered him in 2007, so the Greene kids might want some revenge. John and Bart have history too. Yes, outlandish speculation for sure. And likely still doesn't explain why these four nice Greene kids are in Salem. Oh well.

I have mixed feelings about a Bo and Hope return. Sure, getting Bo out of the coma is needed. Past returns have been frustrating because the show has spent most of the time having them apart. They spend 10-15 episodes apart and reunite for a handful of episodes, and then the return is over and <poof> they go off-screen. I wonder if the show will tie the return to the "forgotten" metal time capsule that no one seems to know how too open (uh, blowtorch, welding cut), since the Puzzle Box was key to the Gina-is-Hope story. Could the contents of that box somehow link to Fake Abigail? Bo and Hope were at their best when working on some type of crime/mystery. The show has laid a rather extensive groundwork on the Fake Abigail story. An imprisoned John Black, a doctor brother, younger siblings, Jack believing, Jennifer disbelieving, Clyde pulling strings behind the scenes. But why? Everyone is thinking this is a DiMera story. What if it is a Horton story? And Bo and Hope help wrap it up....

Whoopi Goldberg: EGOT Winner, So Why Is She Here?
SanDiegoInExile replied to Lisin's topic in The View
I have never gotten the impression that The View is financially challenged. They seem to recoup enough dollars via the twice weekly (?) View Your Deals. Even after all these decades, Whoopi remains an A-list Hollywood star. I don't see an America clamoring for shows hosted by some rando ABC News correspondent. I do think Whoopi helps bring the big name stars to the show. Would DeNiro show up for The View with JuJu Chang? The View folks have repeatedly said their current host mix is one of their better incarnations. The show will eventually need a replacement host, since Sara, Sunny, and Alyssa do not seem interested in that role. Also, the quality of Joy's Friday moderating has declined significantly in the past year. And I have loved Joy for nearly 30 years. She seems lost or confused much more often. She seems to have re-focused her career/goals/life, so I am not sure how much longer she will even want to do the show. Maybe she wants to make Season Thirty? The last moderator that The View tried to introduce was Paula Faris, an experiment which ended almost as soon as it started. -

Yup, the show is preempted in many markets due to the Olympics, so it would be a good time for Kelly to take vacation. Folks tend to forget that the show is syndicated to ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX stations across the country. It's a WABC production, with the majority of affiliates being ABC, but not all. Sacramento may be the largest TV market where the show airs on non-ABC. NBC affiliate KCRA has had "Live" since the Regis and Kathie Lee days. -
Live With Kelly And Mark - General Discussion
SanDiegoInExile replied to Shermie's topic in Live With Kelly And Mark
The show's website has a Ticket option, so it's easy to determine "vacation" time. July audiences are/were needed for every MON-TUE-WED in July. Some dates are sold out. And there is a stray THU thrown in (July 18). In addition to "double episode days", they are likely taping the 10-minute Host Chats needed when the show goes dark in August. The tape schedule means that WABC does not have to pay union wages for the support staff two days a week. Letterman began this two decades ago when he started taping a Friday show on Monday. The View does the same thing during the summer, taping Friday on Thursday. Hoda and Kathie Lee did it for years too. (Have never watched Jenna, but they probably still do it). The later tapings a couple times a week also allows them to book guests who aren't willing/able to be on-set at 920A. Tamron, Sherri, Jennifer, and KellyClarkson all go into reruns for the summer, with maybe an occasional "all new" (pretaped) show. Honestly, I think that when Ryan left, the taping schedule has become more consistent. Working around his schedule made it seem that the pre-tapes happened on odd days.
