  1. In many communities, especially large cities, people who want to be firefighters have to work as EMTs first - in other words, the career path to being a firefighter is to become an EMT, then wait for an opportunity to move up. I would expect Team Boston to at least be trained EMTs, and possibly have that in their job history.
  2. Supposedly, Jillian does stay in touch with a few of these people long after the show ends, so it seems plausible. And I do remember an "engaged at the store" episode from a previous season, where the bride came to the store to play. That did not strike me as real, however. (And your forum request was just fine.)
  3. My dad owned a small business in a small town, and it was close to the schools my brothers and I attended. We'd walk there after school and wait for Mom to come pick us up, but in bad weather we often waited for Dad to give us a ride home. In the latter situation, we might be there a couple of hours, depending on how busy things were. We had a space we went to where we could do homework or read, we had rules, rules, and more rules, and we had two specific employees we could go to if we needed an adult and Dad wasn't available. It was not even remotely like anything I've ever seen on TV, but we were technically family members going to his office.
  4. I haven't seen this episode yet. Should I call it up on the DVR, or is it one that ought to go into the void of being deleted unwatched? FTR, I have not been inside of a Denny's since I was in college, which was a very long time ago.
  5. Yeah, Nationals Park in Washington has some really great food. But as a newer stadium, it has a lot of vendors, including fast-food-style outlets of regular local restaurants. The overall "chef" in charge doesn't apply at Nats Stadium. We are still giggling about the "tiny ice cream spheres," btw. This was a situation in which the show's inability to call something by its real name, in this case "Dippin' Dots."
  6. I doubt she will ever be in a leadership position. She just doesn't have the personality for it. As for being on a creative team, if there are brainstorming sessions, when will she mature to the point where she's confident tossing out her own ideas and explaining them in a coherent manner? She's too much of a snowflake - the team leader would have to play 20 Questions with her. I hope she gets it together, because she does have some great ideas at times. But as you note, her foundation is lacking.
  7. Watching the latest ep now, and I have to ask: Did Kaila borrow Courtney's shoes?
  8. Check out MasterChef Junior, which begins a new season on Nov. 4, if you want to see the warm, fuzzy side of the three U.S. judges. It's actually my favorite show in the MC franchise after the UK professionals version. I'm not sufficiently familiar with the Canadian judges to weigh in on them.
  9. So who is the Boston Rob of this franchise, CJ or Blais? The other one would correspond to that other Survivor tool they kept bringing back until he finally won. Really, TPTB, it would be easier on the viewers if you just handed these folks the money and didn't make us watch them "earn" it. This is another episode I will delete from my DVR without watching.
  10. That's what I've found frustrating. Overall, this cast has seemed pretty strong, and even the weaker ones have had moments of brilliance. Yet here we are at the final 6, and we've got 2 people who shouldn't be here: Sasha and George. (I like George, but I don't like his work.) So next week, at the final 5, will George have a good week and a more deserving designer go home due to a bad week? It could very well happen.
  11. My UO: I hate Jennifer Garner's voice. Hate it.
  12. Wow. Quoting from the douchenozzle: There's also no reason for him to be white. In fact, there's no reason for most characters to be white. How often does it matter that a character is white? What does whiteness give to a character that is absolutely essential? I am white, and I can't think of a reason most of the time. Maybe if it's a historical piece and you've got someone who attended Harvard in 1870 or fought in the French Revolution, yeah. But otherwise, there's usually not much of a reason beyond the limitations of the minds of TPTB.
  13. To jokingly convey the unwavering nature of maternal love, my mom used to say something like "you can shoot the preacher and set the church on fire, and your mother will always love you." Evidently she was not talking about Gothard mothers.
  14. Dina was phenomenal yet again. If this is an extended job interview, she will easily keep busy. I thought Sasha and George should have both gone. I couldn't decide which was worse: Gravel Face Barbie with Baby Doll Medusa-head, or Cross-Dressing Mismatched Wigs God.
  15. I'm still behind (mid-Season 1), but this episode is one of the most memorable. One thing I learned about photographers some time ago, which this episode seemed to get right, is that they find facial lines fascinating. A number of years ago, I had dinner with a couple in which the husband was a talented amateur photographer and the wife was above-average in looks. He was so happy to show me a photo he'd taken of her that revealed every single line on her face and made her look like an old crone at the age of 41. It was hideous! She didn't really look like that, and she found the photo embarrassing. And yet her husband, who adored her btw, thought it was a wonderful picture of her. So a photographer who did NOT love Carrie, getting her in a wrecked condition like this? Yeah, he probably thought this was a fantastic shot, full of "character." Air-brushing exists for a reason.
  16. At least one mod (insert winky icon) is thinking that a rewatch would be a great idea. I'm not lead here, but I suspect this will happen. Personally, I'd like to start with Season 1, Episode 1. If that's not a problem, I guess the next question is when to begin the rewatch. People need time to get copies of the episodes and all that.
  17. Not that I can tell. I'm assuming they will not be present, especially since it's different contestants each week.
  18. Wow, after the poor reception SatC 2 received, I'm stunned. I thought the first movie was pretty bad and didn't see the second, so I won't be seeing the third unless it gets rave reviews.
  19. If you haven't opened it yet, it could perhaps be a birthday, Christmas, or whatever gift to someone else.
  20. Oh, damn, this means I have to get Showtime. Just kidding - I'm grinning from ear to ear at this news!
  21. It's like a mob of chefs for the first challenge, a slightly smaller mob for the second challenge, then a mere 4 chefs for the final challenge.
  22. I think the mutual dislike between Vaughn and Monet is real. Past that, I will only say that Jamie seems to be trying too hard, which may or may not reflect what I see as her extreme need for approval.
  23. After a homeowners association cookout in the afternoon, we went out for appetizers and beer at our favorite bar last night. I had the chicken chili, and DH had a small plate version of the restaurant's lamb tenderloin entree. This afternoon, we're going to a preseason hockey game, then having dinner at the Bonefish Grill near where we park (we have a coupon). This week's menu will include a fruit-and-cheese dinner, an omelet dinner, and a leftovers dinner, with three others yet to be determined, though one will involve chicken thighs.
  24. New episodes start Oct. 11! Here's the description* of the first episode: *PTV's official source for episode titles and descriptions does not have anything listed, so I pulled this from the Animal Planet website.
