  1. I have an idea that is quite hate-able: celebrity edition for charity. What with the G-list social media people and the recycled folks from other reality TV shows, would it be that much of a stretch? I envision this as one of two things: the last ever season of TAR, or a desperate attempt to revitalize the franchise if it's perceived as teetering on the edge. My concept is that this happens once, then never again. I also like the idea several posts above, bringing in stars (winners?) from various international editions.
  2. How about random chefs who don't know each other, don't have any sob stories, and just like to cook for a living? At this point, that's the most special group of contestants of all, since we don't see them anymore. They really need to take this show on the road. Would Amanda mind a trip to California? Would Maneet enjoy herself in Chicago? Would Marc Murphy like a tour of the south? How about a special group of contestants being "people not from the East Coast"?
  3. I watched Kevin Sbraga at Sbraga one night (I forget which season he won), and he was keeping 1 eye on the open kitchen and 1 eye on the guests. He entered the kitchen twice while we were there, once to talk to a couple of the cooks and once to do some hands-on cooking for about 5 or so minutes. It was as if he was making sure they met his standards. Like Spike, he has multiple restaurants and can't be in more than one place at a time.
  4. Bella's rules of CTK: 1. Don't sabotage yourself because that's the hardest sabotage to beat. 2. Do not level the playing field, as noted above. 3. If a chef has all the sabotages and still makes it through, you're screwed - that chef often wins. See: Fabio in All-Stars, the finalists in Camp CutThroat, etc.
  5. I always assume that the judges taste everything and that the actual judging lasts far longer than what we see on TV. If low-drama tasting cuts into the story line, production won't show us the tasting.
  6. I don't remember whether I watched Unfinished Business or not, as I haven't bothered to develop an encyclopedic knowledge of all things TAR. I do know I've only seen the cowboys in their initial season, and that was by choice.
  7. I'm not going to turn this into a formal poll, but what are your favorites from among these? New Year, New Sob Stories New Year, New Chefs, Same Sob Stories That Dish Was Just Offal Yes, those were my favorites (except my own, and I'm not including it because of obvious bias). Thoughts?
  8. Just moved an altered picture of Derick to the Goofy thread. Please don't forget that we have the Goofy thread for this kind of thing.
  9. Aside from All Star seasons that include the cowboys, I always watch the first episode and usually get pretty deep into the series before losing interest. While the show doesn't intrigue me nearly as much as it once did, by its very nature it has potential. So I'll watch the first episode and hope for the best. I do like parent/child teams, so I'm hoping those will prove interesting.
  10. At least it's not another faux-lebrity edition. I will organize the forum accordingly.
  11. It is getting increasingly heated in here. Please dial it back so that we don't end up having to issue warnings. Which we will do if this keeps up. Thanks.
  12. Chopped 2016: Just Dump It All in the Blender
  13. Those who self-sabotage seem to have a disproportionate departure rate, even when they aren't given any sabotages by the other chefs.
  14. Once again, I feel sorry for the judges having to eat this slop.
  15. I agree with your entire post and especially the last statement, John Seavey. I do understand why some people don't want any tinkering with the show, but I don't mind the experiments. As you note, it keeps the racers guessing. As a rule, I am bored by the unflappable racers who figure out how to play it as a game. It seems that many of us continue to watch this show because of the magic in the first few seasons we viewed, whether we began with Season 1 or Season 25. When that magic wears off, is it because of the show's structure, casting, and tasks, or is it because magic is hard to susta
  16. Because this show has weird little subsets and simultaneous seasons, etc., we've been doing annual "new shows for X year" threads. So let's suggest some titles for next year's thread.
  17. Just saw a promo for the specials on The Cooking Channel. How depressing! I'm hoping the departure of so many advertisers makes TLC decide that further shows with these clowns aren't worth the effort.
  18. Exactly. MAFS people, I directed you over here to clean up the spoiler thread and to enable a more focused discussion. I didn't send you over here to have a bickerfest or to compare which group suffered worse. Stop it. Warnings will be forthcoming if it continues.
  19. Okay folks, I linked to the Race and Ethnicity thread. This is the spoiler thread. Let's talk about spoilers. Going forward, other posts may be deleted according to my sense of their relevance. Thanks.
  20. There are some good posts here on the issue of race, and so far everyone has been respectful. But seeing that it's sort of taken over, I'd be happier if we'd get back to the topic of the thread, which is social media, spoiler-y media, and spoiler-y speculation. We do have a Race and Ethnicity on TV thread under Everything Else TV, which would be a better place for further thoughts on the issue. Thanks!
  21. Hey, folks- Most of the discussion is okay, but sometimes it verges on being rant-y. Rant-y is not okay. If you think you're edging into rant territory, please edit yourself or hold the thought. We will be watching the thread as usual and will remove rants without further notice. Thanks!
  22. Yes, and we have a forum for it - I hope some of the MAFS posters will follow us over there.
  23. I'll agree with you on the first sentence and I'll agree with what you said about Jews. Past that, I still think the "experts" aren't very good to begin with (maybe they can't interpolate from their own experience) and really could use substantial additional guidance when matching up African Americans. Also, the diverse community I live in seldom has an all-white anything, which may be something I'm bringing to this discussion - I tend to distrust homogeneous groups, especially when they're in positions of power like these non-expert experts are.
  24. I do agree they suck at matching people regardless of race, etc. I just also think they have a tin ear to racial issues. It's not mutually exclusive. At this point, I question their ability to match a hungry 5-year-old to a plate of cookies.
