  1. IMO, the awful results is why things like gender swaps and age make up are better left off the show. They take technical skill, sure, but they don't require artistic talent and require way, way more time than the show allows to be done well.
  2. Though with Miss Fame's very forced in background exposition this episode, i'm a bit afraid the new Untucked format will mean that the whole 'every Queen gets a annoying sob story moment' thing will be in the main show instead.
  3. I actually liked Jasmine's runway look, very Supremes or 'rich black lady at church'. I wasn't fond of Fame's or Violet's, both seemed low on taste, kind of ugly and in Fame's case, the tats make the look read very butch lesbian.
  4. Ben might have lacked beauty make up training and IIRC, Anthony never did a beauty make up in his season so might not have been able to coach him like Laura did with Julian. Because he put some lips down.. poorly, but didn't really do anything else with beauty make up.
  5. I like Pearl, though I feel along with Max he's kind of being sidelined right now for the more bitchy queens, of which at least Miss Fame is likely to be gone soon(seriously, if they pop your sob story in the second episode you might as well pack your heels already). I would be seriously happy if the next few episodes poached some young nasty skinny bitch off the show, since it's a bit overloaded at this point and Violet Chachki by herself is a bit more nasty than i want to handle.
  6. Yeah, i'd call Max's look as on point for what she's trying. Whether the look will be able to carry her to the end I think will depend on if she can bring out more crazy good looking more modern looks like the Winter runway last episode. Is Max a albino? I just notice that he seems to be beyond pale and into colorless whether in or out of make up, but he also dyes his hair and seems to wear contacts so it's hard to tell.
  7. Erm, who are you talking about? Cora? The actress left to be the lead in Reign, the character had to be written out(the same with Jackson, Isaac and Erica).
  8. I can't figure a final three prediction yet. The Snatch Game is really the one that separates the contenders from the people who are just there and until then it's hard to pick out particular talent levels. I'm pretty sure Ginger is at least final five, she has a very positive edit to go with her strong looks and humor. I have a feeling that with the Snatch Game and later Max will pick up steam and probably hit final three.
  9. Heck, the first challenge wasn't even that since the nude runway didn't really require the queens to build a real look, just put on a body stocking and wrap. Which does annoy me, the 'create a look from complete crap material' really does set out some basic skill levels. I kind of wonder if they avoided it because too many of the queens this season lacked skill in that area(i've noticed the younger queens seem to be getting progressively less skilled at basics like sewing).
  10. Ginger was very smart in how she chose her team, the black queens, camp queens and big girls have pretty much always been better lipsynchers and they completely showed out against Aryan Airways, whose best was still meh. Personally I could have seen the win going to Ginger(for leading the team and being very good at pushing the energy up as the first act of the lip synch), Jasmine(for carrying most of the middle of the performance while keeping the energy incredible high) or Kasha(for giving the most standout campy hilarious performance). That Violet was in the top instead of Jasmine would be something I call weird except that the show likes to throw excessive praise at young queens who are mostly look if they show a minor ability to perform(and Violet's is really what I would call minor this episode, she was well shown up by almost every other queen except Katya, Sasha, Fame and Pearl IMO). I felt putting Sasha in the bottom 2 was obviously because if they put Miss Fame in there, Katya would have booted her ass out so they put their most clear cannon fodder in there instead. And I have to say my opinion of Miss Fame is lowering, despite this episode obviously trying to tug my sympathies for her, some of her looks are now making me question her taste level, her tats are incredible butch for someone whose schtick is 'Drag High Fashion Model' instead of 'Drag Butch Lesbian' and she went onto the show not only with no performance experience, but actually believing she could win without performing.. heck actively viewing performing as a degradation on her 'brand'. Right now she's making me think of Diet Raja, claims to have all the same flavor, but replaces important flavors with unpleasant aftertaste.
  11. I feel at this point it's anyone's to win. Emily and Ben definitely have the strongest record to win, but they also have both landed in the bottom with real doozies that one could argue probably should have sent them home over the one that did go home. That is, there is enough performance variability here that I would only be slightly shocked to see a Stephanie/Julian/Adam finale.
  12. Bianca is a insult comic, hating on people is literally her job.
  13. That is the sad thing with the first challenge, because it's a pure look challenge it usually knocks out a performance/comedy queen.. who would have been much more entertaining to watch through the mid-season, which is all performance and comedy challenges. Because lets face it, Kandy Ho is almost certainly not going to bust out anything more interesting than what we saw on this one.
  14. Heh, true. But i'm fine enough with Michelle since there is consistency to her inconsistency(or more specifically, she seems to have a limited vocabulary of critique which means she often ends up using the same words to mean different things), Santino was the truly WTF random one and thankfully he's gone now. Though Michelle's reaction to Sharon's looks will always make me think she was snorting too much coke, since she absolutely hated Sharon's well put together and thought out looks and loved the ones that looked like they were hastily thrown together out of Forever 21 offerings.
  15. When she went off on the other judge about how it's not a bad thing for drag to be costumey, I immediately flashed back to other seasons where she ragged on Sharon, Chad, Ben, Jinkx and Alaska for being costumey or kitschy. She has a lot of weird up and downs in how she reacts to things.
  16. I like Pearl mostly because I find her dry in a funny way, but I also have a feeling that she'll get grating and annoying fast. Though between Violet, Pearl, Kandy and Fame there does seem to be a fair number of young queens with 'totally over it' as their primary personality trait. But then last season had Adore, Laganja and Gia too so maybe that is just the new face of drag that I, just barely turning thirty, am too old to fully appreciate anymore.
  17. The nude runway is probably the weakest runway concept they've had in a while. It's especially a funny one given that in any other runway, doing nude illusions is generally a death sentence because they look so bad(I was surprised nobody brought out a breast plate for this).
  18. Well that was a interesting premiere. Though I get the feeling that who is strong and who is weak will really flip in the mid-season, since between the first challenge and the last two challenges is pretty much nothing but acting, comedy and performance challenges since season four. Maybe i'll be wrong and Violet and Fame will be better at those than your usual look bitches, but Fame at least seems like a very likely Snatch Game send off. Though Sasha, Kandy, Kennedy and Jasmine have cannon fodder written all over them, so I think the rest will be safe for now(Though who knows, I figured Joslyn and Trinity for early send offs last season). Though Miss Fame could really grow on me, I love Raja's polished high fashion avante garde style and if Fame can channel even a tenth of that, she'll hold my attention(that gold dress with feather fascinator was quite amazing, so here's hoping). I like Max, Pearl, Katya, Ginger and Jaidynn so far, all for different reasons but they've all proven genuinely amusing. Violet Chachki is probably my least favorite so far, but that is a lot of run over from her Meet The Queens where she dissed one of the primary bars for drag queens to start in metro Atlanta as a dive bar in the sticks.. well that and about making me want to throw up when she was doing the nude runway this episode. Should be a interesting season, some people seem strong and some people seem weak but there is no dominating Bianca Del Rio so far, or even 'shoe in for final three' Sharon and Chad.
  19. That one was weird all around to me, since it seemed both clear to me that Courtney and Joslyn bombed the challenge far worse than Ben/Darienne but that Ben barely even phoned in the lip sync. But then season 6 in general while a entertaining season, is probably the most obvious with the level to which the show is producer, not performance, driven.
  20. IIRC, the body painting models have always been completely different than the season's creature models. If I were to guess why, it's that the creature models are likely cameo/extra/commercial actors and/or stunt doubles as their primary job like most people who go under creature make up, while the body painting models are pulled from figure modeling lists.
  21. It will be interesting to see which, if any, of the mentors gets eliminated first. I think Laura is really safe, Emily and Darla have probably the strongest overall record and Julian and Stephanie are still possible darkhorses. Anthony's chances i'd waver on, all three of his remaining contestants I could see going soon(especially if Ben's sour attitude with team ups continues). And of course Rayce only has two left, but Logan has been coasting pretty well so far with always either being safe or winning and Adam has probably the largest amount of on paper experience and skill, so I won't count him out pulling a Drew and doing much stronger work later into the season.
  22. Emily IIRC, said she had cosmetology training as a background in the first episode. If so, that would make her the only one I can think of this season with a background that is more on the aesthetic than technical side of things. Similarly with Dina and cake decorating last year. While obviously the technical is important, and people who are all technique no aesthetic like Roy have been hugely popular in the past, the show has always favored the more aesthetic contestants, especially in the finale. So Emily seems the obvious one to win so far.
  23. A few things popped out at me in this challenge: -It was really clear most of the contestants were unfamiliar with bodypainting because their paint was too thin and undercolored, the flesh tone was popping out and coloring the finished piece all over the place(the season two body painting challenge had a few people with the same issue). The 'worm Adam' by Rob and Ben's blend were the worst for it. -Most of the contestants seemed somewhat uncomfortable working with the male model, given how hard most worked to minimize them(only Jamie's male model was as equally worked on and prominent as the female counterpart). -If you've never body painted before why would you ever try a blend, one of the harder techniques to learn? And in a natural, low contrast setting which makes it even harder? -Besides Jamie/Emily, no one really embraced the degree to which you can embrace color in a purely artistic challenge, which is sad given the honey bee is actually the least colorful of the options.
  24. What I didn't understand with Anthony's concept is that the half-and-half sculpt fits his bridge perfectly.. but his bridge is half neon green and half neon blue. Why go for half slate grey and half steel grey when you have the appropriate color scheme and concept literally staring you in the face?
  25. I don't really see that, he made the fabricated pieces and chest/back for the alien, which were the pieces the judges liked. The problem with the alien was the face sculpt and color palette, both of which were Regina's choices. He didn't take charge of the production, but I thought the general consesus here is that someone with immunity in the team should essentially just GTFO and do what the other person says. That Regina's idea was kind of crap is on her.
