  1. Dustin and Justin's makeovers make them look a /lot/ younger than they used to. Which admittedly is what a modeling makeover should do, since the preference is to look waaay younger than you are. But both of them look like they just stepped right out of some kind of Barely Legal porn set.
  2. While i'm not surprised i'd find a good chunk of the guys in a modeling competition a bit fugly, because modeling(especially high fashion modeling) kind of likes fug faces on guys, what i'm surprised by is the regularness of the fugness. Devin and C20's Marvin and Chris are the only ones I can think of where the fug is in the usual modeling realm of facial features that are on the extreme ends, like if you made a character in a Elder Scrolls game and set their cheekbones, lips etc to max. But then even the good looking guys tend to be on the regular side of good looking, Nyle is one of the few examples out of the many guys the show has had that I would term 'classically handsome'. And where are the guys who have the Colton Haynes style facial features, which seem to dominate a lot of rolls of male models in agencies i've seen. Bryant is really the closest they've gotten to a legit fitness model look too, though at 5'6" he's too short for most fitness modeling too. It's kind of strange because while other modeling shows with male contestants i've seen didn't generally focus on guys who looked like working male models either, they still generally cast extraordinarily attractive men with really good bodies.
  3. The usual Face Off answer would be either 'All the male models were already taken' or 'i'm more comfortable working with female models'.
  4. It depends. The show kind of mashes up the make up department, FX designers and concept designers into one but they're actually different skill sets and careers(admittedly careers that are adjacent enough to move easily between). Most of the people on the show want to be a FX designer, though usually there are 2-3 make up artists thrown in there as well, and a FX designer is pretty much never going to be called on to do beauty make up, Similarly, the make up department generally doesn't make appliances, just doing the application of them. And the concept designer will likely not have their hands on either. The person who sculpts vampire forehead ridges not knowing how to put make up on the actress the ridges are applied to would be very normal.
  5. From what I could tell the timeline of this all took place over one day, with Liam and Hayden being kidnapped the previous night(when they presumable used excuses for why they weren't home given it was pre-planned). Assuming it was a weekend since nobody had school, that would mean all they would need is a excuse why they were gone all day, which at least with the 16 year olds i've known tends to be more 'annoyingly common' than 'call the police worried'. I would place Isaac as the single most one dimensional character the show ever had(seriously, it felt like he developed and lost character traits by roll of dice randomly flipping between psychopath, broken bird, asshole jock, total aw shucks dweeb and even bigger psychopath without any development in between) and easily it's worst acted character as well, his actor was just absolutely stunningly incapable of acting(that scene in the vet clinic where Scott shows him how to take away a dog's pain has possible the most laugh out loud acting on the show). I would easily call Kira, Malia and Liam waaaay better characters than Isaac. They at least have a actual character, rather than just being whatever the current scene needs. And their actors are at least minimally skilled at line reading and portraying emotions.
  6. Calling her look Traffic Cop is quite a bit nicer than what I figured when I saw the hat, which is that it's meant to be a SS uniform cap, which are quite popular in some branches of the fetish/alternative look(Sharon Needles on Drag Race would walk around in one in the Werk Room, for example).
  7. I find it interesting that the look that sent both teammates home was very, very close in attempted design to DIna's goddess and faerie. It felt very much like people trying to rehash a look they know works, without understanding why it works.
  8. I'm betting it will be people who had major illnesses, probably with the explanation that the Doctors originally operated on them and now are coming back to finish the experiment now that it's matured. I'm betting the edging around what was up with Theo back when Scott and Stiles knew him will be a major illness.
  9. I know at least Drew, a season 7 finalist, is a teacher at the school(which is probably why he was extremely good at little technical aspects of make up a lot of other contestants mess up, like thinness of the application). Well, the last time the show had a majority of people who actually work in the FX industry was season 1. Since then it's mostly been 1-3 people with actual industry backgrounds, people who just came out of FX school, people in peripheral careers(fashion make up, body painting, sculpting etc) looking to branch out and people who do make up for Halloween haunted houses. Though i'm not really sure how much being a industry professional vs up and comer or amateur really effects things much, given that many of the actual industry professionals on the show give very disappointing performances, while the fan favorites are usual the up and comers or amateurs or people who's primary career is in a periphery like Laura, Anthony, Dina, Cig Neutron, the entire group of season 8 finalists, Tate and Roy.
  10. Err, he has. Unless we selectively forget all the times he's made it clear he'll kill someone unless they do go away or stop threatening them. But then I find Scott's pacifist viewpoint much more laudable than Derek's murderhobo viewpoint or Koshiko's 'kill the teenager to get at the immortal spirit that won't be harmed by losing it's current host' viewpoint.
  11. I honestly find it a bit frightening how many people desperately want a teenage boy to murder people and think he's a righteous ass for not wanting to kill people.. the usual sane response to any situation. Especially in a show where the hyper violent murder machine everyone seems to want him to be are the bad guys. But then I just don't think 'what my lighthearted teen show really needs is more psychopaths who kill first and ask questions later in the main cast'.
  12. If the show became 24 with werewolves i'd dial out very quickly(Like I did when True Blood became 24 with vampires). The likability of the cast is the biggest draw, and when I have issue figuring out why the protagonist isn't a complete and utter psycho is when likability goes out the window.
  13. A psychopomp is a common form of mythological entity that acts to escort the dead to the afterlife(sometimes it's expanded also to include those beings that signal death or comfort the dying). Examples include Archangel Gabriel, Charon, Anubis, Hermes, the Grim Reaper and Valkyries.
  14. Well in this case it's a set of belt sections that snap together to form a blade. Which would be functionally impossible for a actual sword(it would simple break apart as soon as it hit anything) but is perfectly fine for cool-but-unreal weaponry.
  15. Kira's current sword looks to be a modern take on a European broadsword, wielded like a Chinese dao.
  16. I think he didn't know if Liam was human or werewolf and was trying to find out.
  17. I think the girl was made supernatural by the doctors, to go with the theme of them breaking the rules of shapeshifters with their experiments.
  18. I liked the episode, it wasn't a action packed or fast paced episode, but it did a lot of character building and relationship building. Also establishing the main threats of the season(which if the show's pattern holds, will stay largely mysterious until the fourth episode, get a big reveal in the ninth episode and get to monologue in the tenth). The Doctors are intriguing, since while all steampunky, they're clearly mystical with the 'inject them with more birds!' thing. I wonder if they'll be going back to the Celtic/Druid well again, since we had Kira's parents laying out some Celtic mythology in the first episode with the Wild Hunt and it looks like Lydia's bansheeness will be getting some focus.
  19. Brandon Routh's career is based on one thing: he has the kind of All American Leading Man Good Looks casting agents wish they could bottle, he's practically the very image of what a leading man is desired to look like. But he completely lacks the charisma to back it up, which is why his movie career fizzled and he's become a supporting character in TV shows. Though that is one reason I imagine Tyler is not likely to get many leading roles(though he seems easy enough to work with that a career in secondary characters seems likely), because he has a really noticable off center jawline, which is cute enough a flaw but casting directors want perfection. Dylan O'Brien has the benefit of having, especially now that he's bulked up significantly and grown his hair out, the kind of face casting agents want leading their productions.
  20. In the Varamyr chapter, after his failed attempt to possess the spear wife leaves them both dead and he wargs into his wolf, he sees the cold mists come down and their bodies rise up, which to me suggests it's the cold mists that comes with the Whitewalkers that raises wights.
  21. Real, prosthetic penises don't hold up to close up(the two times a prosthetic are used in Spartacus were both long shots and were well.. pretty obviously fake even then due to sheer size). Plus his actor has done a lot of nudity, including frontal, before(Lito's actor has too, which is why i'm surprised he never goes beyond side view on the show given how heavily it objectifies him and how much the show enjoys reversing the usual gendered nature of nudity on premier cable type series)
  22. It's.. complicated. In that there are multiple prophecies with similar requirements going on, with the Prince Who Was Promised which seems to involve a rekindling of Targaryen power and Azor Azai which is the one who defeats the Long Night(and the muddying that everyone who interprets the prophecies seems to have different ideas of exactly what they mean). And we have the whole 'the dragon must have three heads' prophecy which suggests three chosen ones. Though in Mel's chapter she has a bit where she tries looking into the flames to find Azor Azai and keeps finding Jon that is about as explicit a suggestion of who the prophecy refers to that we've ever gotten.
  23. Probably because Pearl really didn't evolve or improve much throughout the season and the attempt to build a storyline of her doing so just highlighted it. She did well sometimes and horrible other times and just mediocre most times, but it was very inconsistent. Her best outfits were towards the early season, her worst towards the late. Her best performances were in the mid season, her worst were in the early and late. But mostly she stayed middle-bottom of the pack throughout the entire season. Though I think at least right now it would be impossible for Pearl to evolve, because while she clearly knows the elements she likes to use(all white styling, exaggerated clown make up, clothing somewhere between goth and old Hollywood glam, butch deep voiced comedy characters, a particular style of dance for lip syncs) she just doesn't know how to pull them together into a cohesive whole. Though that does cover much of the contestants, most of them were generally middle-bottom with rare moments of doing well or really badly and a lot of mediocrity(except for Katya, Ginger and Violet who were generally top-middle throughout the season). Pearl just stands out because she has a storyline of growth in a season where everyone was a straight line from beginning to end.
  24. White Atlanta? Not really, it's a commuter city people go to work, more than a cultural center. Black Atlanta? Yeah, though not as big as some others. I actually saw Adam today. He looks better than he did on the show, not as puffy, though his hair has gone back to big mane it originally was.
  25. Heh, it's something i've seen a million times and was completely bored by the very first time I saw it(really that goes for the whole burlesque scene, which is like boring hipsterville), which is why Violet really never did anything for me.
