  1. Also Turk on Scrubs was a diabetic (I forget what type though) and was afraid to tell Carla, only for her to have a bunch of recipes ready to try for him that were diabetic friendly. This may be a very broad trope but in connection to my previous post about sex at work, one thing I really hate in a show is unprofessionalism. Whether it's disrespecting the boss, or dressing in an inappropriate manner or just ignoring your responsibilities, I hate when characters in shows don't do their jobs and are never called out on it. So often there's a scene where a character will be incredibly rude to their boss and nothing will come from it. Shows don't have to be realistic and boring and there are some plots where context changes everything, but entitlement is never a good look on a character and unprofessionalism without any consequences makes for many entitled characters that I end up hating.
  2. My favorite Law and Order in the series is the original, no question. And it actually disappoints me that Law and Order: SVU is considered the favorite since the leads are so self-righteous. Sure, Jack McCoy may have been self-righteous too, but he had other characters who called him out on it (like Adam, or Jamie) which is why I'm ok with it being part of his character. Rey Curtis was self-righteous, but Lennie and Anita would sometimes take him down a notch. I rarely (if ever) see anyone do that on SVU so it's not seen as much of a flaw there as it is on the original. I have absolutely no interest in any of Shonda Rhimes' shows. I think it's great that she writes for women, and I like Viola Davis so I'm glad more people are interested in her now, but all of her shows are too dramatic for my taste. I like mini-series and wish there were more that aired on tv. Also, I hate Michael Scott. Absolutely hate him. Was one of then reasons I stopped watching The Office, I love Steve Carell and that's one of the only things that made me tolerate him. I can't stand characters that make me cringe. I remember that episode where Phyllis made him something for Yankee Swap (a boring gift, but still) and he spent extra money for his gift, so he pouts and is awful to Phyllis, and I just...ugh.
  3. Honestly, I'm gonna try to not worry too much about Sansa's story cause as weird as it may end up being, D&D are kinda stuck with the books not being finished. I'm curious about what happens, but I'll wait til the first couple episodes before making a big judgement. Meanwhile, I've been excited to see what happens to Brienne, Jaime, Arya, Jon, and more, but after watching the promos recently, I've realized I'm actually really excited to see Jorah's story. I don't recall, will the show have scenes with him and Tyrion? Mainly I want to see Peter and Iain work together, but I also hope he brings more life to Dany's (probable) dull scenes (since promos show him eventually reaching her storyline). That reminds me, I'm actually glad that in an effort to get the story moving faster, D&D are pushing storylines together so that more characters will interact with each other. God knows I'm finally ready for Dany to make another connection to Westeros, even if she doesn't get there (yet?). I understand why the books don't do it as much, but that's an advantage the show has and I'm glad it is using it.
  4. The UO thread is talking about Greys Anatomy and that made me remember a trope I'm tired of: characters having sex at work. Especially if they work in a hospital. It's one of the reasons why I never watched GA and why I took a break from House when it started to happen there. I guess it's supposed to be sexy and naughty and whatever, but it just makes me think the characters are stupid beyond belief. Like, they really can't control their urges long enough to wait until their shifts are over? And you're at work, you're supposed to be, you know, working. Especially in a hospital when there are people who need help more than you need sex. And it's worse when they get caught cause nothing really happens of it. I'd be ok watching it happen to lead characters on a show only for them to be caught and then fired for it. The whole thing just shows the characters making stupid decisions for all the wrong reasons and I never find that entertaining.
  5. I always have to hand it to Carol in that she was always willing to let others have the spotlight. So many of the great skits either don't involve her, or have her in them but playing second to someone else. Don't get me wrong, she was hilarious in many skits and more than capable of handling them on her own, but you can really tell she wasn't an egomaniac and it really showcases the cast as a whole.
  6. Yeah, I didn't enjoy the Mama sketches either, cause I just ended up feeling bad for Eunice. Especially when Betty White guest starred as the sister. Vicki Lawrence did a great job though, you could she gave it her all.
  7. One of the things I did dislike about Frozen was the fact that it was never mentioned to Anna that Elsa "ignored" her all those years to protect her after almost (accidentally) killing her. Elsa never mentioned it, the rock troll never mentioned it, nothing. I don't know if the people behind the movie did this on purpose or if they forgot to include a mention of it, but it bugged, cause there could've been a moment when Anna acknowledged Elsa's sacrifice, therefore showing maturity on her part. It also felt like a plot drop when it was so important at the beginning of the movie. Also, I don't need a Frozen 2. It was a cute movie that I liked when I saw it, but now will need at least 5 years before I can watch it again without hating it on sight. A second one doesn't help.
  8. Sometimes I can be iffy on Gina, but I like her for the most part. And I was actually fine with her here. Normally I feel bad for Amy whenever Gina makes fun of her, but I was all for it this time. I love Amy, but I hate when a character not only acts like she is smarter than others, but says it too. I don't like it in any character unless arrogance is a big part of their character (ex. House) because it's shown to be irritating. True, it's cause she's competitive and she did apologize in the end, but I was glad Rosa and Gina "solved" it first. Again, I love Amy so I'm glad it was only for this thing. Even though I did laugh plenty of times, this one wasn't one of my favorites. I think it'll be fine on rewatch, but I've realized that I miss the team actually solving cases. Sure, they're always easy to solve but they're cops and we haven't seen too much of them being cops lately. The standalone bits are fine, but I think there have been too many of them at once. Also, I love Jake but I wish we could see an episode where someone else is the lead. I think the other characters are liked enough that it could work and it'd be nice to see them get a little more screen time. As for the Parks and Rec comparison, April is one of the reasons I stopped watching the show because I got tired of her being rewarded for her crap behavior. At least Gina sometimes gets called out for her behavior by Amy and Rosa (though not often enough). And the treatment of Jerry was another reason I stopped watching, because it was just mean. At least Hitchcock and Scully have each other, whereas it always looked like Jerry was hated by everyone.
  9. I always love the spouse/lover/family/etc. of the murder victim being super offended when the detectives would ask for their alibis for the time of the murder. "You don't think I could have murdered him?? I loved him!!" Just give the alibi so they can eliminate you as a suspect and move on.
  10. Yay! There's a thread for the show! I've been watching the reruns lately and I'd forgotten how much I love the show. One of the reasons specifically being because of Tim Conway and Harvey Korman. The Fireman sketch was on this week and the fact that Harvey can't stop cracking up kills me. Practically every sketch with the two of them is a gem.
  11. I did too, which is why I can never really "hate" her even though she annoyed me often. I thought she had a lot of potential and wish the writers had done something new with her. I got tired of her and Tony, Gibbs, and her father. I wish they had explored her religion, or her national pride (without dragging Mossad into it), her childhood, outside friendships, anything. They may have done this with the occasional episode, but for her arcs they always went back to tension with Tony/Gibbs/her father. Which again wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't damage her character each time. Each character has suffered from bad arcs, I'll be honest, but I think Ziva's character suffered the most.
  12. The very same! As annoying as it was (not to mention inappropriate), I would've been OK with it had she apologized at the end and said she had gone too far and that she should have given him his space...but that she expected an apology (and then demanded it) without apologizing for her part in it? Ugh. I really wish that Ziva's relationships with the others were explored more than the ones she had with Tony and Gibbs, because all those two relationships did was emphasize the problems of the character.
  13. I've been watching the daily NCIS marathon and caught the 'Family' episode and it just reminded me how much I couldn't stand Ziva during season 5-6 especially. She hounds Tony because he isn't getting back to normal as soon as she'd like after the whole Frog thing and then when he snaps at her and brings up the radiation guy after she pushes him too much, she spends the rest of the episode being pissy to him. By the end of the episode at the least they both should apologize to each other for their actions because they each went a little too far, but Ziva demands one from Tony instead. "Gibbs does not accept apologies. But I do." I disliked her a lot during those couple seasons, but I could not believe her attitude during this particular episode. Can't rewatch it without hating her. Kind of like 'Dog Tags' for Abby. I hate her way too much in that episode to enjoy the rest of it.
  14. See that's not what bugs me about Suits. Oh don't get me wrong, the premise is pretty ridiculous as is the fact that it seems like everyone is in on it, but what bugs me the most is that the guy they're all risking their careers for? Is an entitled ass. He's cocky beyond belief and it annoys the crap out of me considering if his secret ever got out to someone who shouldn't know, not only would all of them lose their careers but they'd probably deal with lawsuits from former clients for the rest of their lives and the firm would no doubt shut down, leaving so many others out of work. Yet this guy is constantly cocky when he should really always be on his knees considering how much they're risking for him. I live with someone who watches the show so I see bits of it from time to time, but I hope the show ends with all of them getting completely screwed over by this cause every single character on the show deserves it.
  15. A while back someone mentioned James Dean and I'll take it a step further - Marilyn Monroe. Sure, her life was tragic and it's terrible that it ended so soon but I never saw why out of all of classic Hollywood, she (and James Dean) are remembered the most. Her acting didnt impress me and there are so many other actors from the time that deserve that deserve the love more than her, in my opinion.
  16. I've never seen Father of the Bride, but that reminds me of how annoyed I was when I watched Guess Who's Coming to Dinner cause the main couple are getting married even though they met like ten days ago, and it's brushed over (for obvious reasons). It doesn't anger me, cause the movie was always about tackling the larger issue of race at the time, but it was a little hard to sit through as I spent the entire viewing going, "they have every right to be concerned - you two just met and they know absolutely nothing about him." Still a good movie nonetheless.
  17. This. I read some of the Oscars thread as the show was airing cause I always love to hear various opinions but most of the people sounded like they were being forced to watch it. Like you said, they didn't like the host, the numbers, the jokes, and hated how long it was but they still kept watching it even as they said they hated it. If you hate it that much, just turn the channel or go to bed. And while I do wish he could've done more as a host this time, Neil Patrick Harris will always have my love for the opening number he did at the last Tonys he hosted. His hosting may not stand out amongst other Oscar hosts over the years, but he wasn't as bad as others seem to think.
  18. I may have been interested at one point, but right now I'm just tired of the Marvel Universe. It just seems to be everywhere. And it wouldn't be bad if it was something different every year (like Black Panther which is coming out sometime soon) but I'm getting so tired of seeing movies for the same characters. Three for Iron Man, three for Captain America, three for Thor, three (separate) for Spider-Man. God knows there are enough characters to do separate movies. Why waste them all on the same people? And speaking of which, I like Spider-Man. I liked the first 2 Spider-Man movies. Tobey McGuire was fine. Kirsten Dunst could have been better. I didn't see why it needed the first reboot, and I really don't see why it needs a second (except for money). Right now I really only enjoy reading about these movies because I'm always curious on what classic modern actor they pick for the newest one (Robert Redford, Anthony Hopkins, Glenn Close, Michael Douglas, etc.) but other than that? Meh on all of it.
  19. Everyone's already mentioned the great moments. Gina was much better this time (and I love her friendship with Jake, so that helps). So many small moments were the funniest to me, and most of it was due to delivery: The flashback with Holt smiling. How a smile that big could be so menacing yet hilarious, is great. After Boyle's little heartfelt "I'm a good cop" moment, which was sweet, when Rosa just says bluntly "he died" about the suspect. I should've expected it, but it was so sudden and blunt that it was just so funny for me. Then Amy dropping his wrist while the reflection shows Boyle freaking out, hilarious. I also loved Gina's "why don't you just do the right thing and jump out the window" to Jake. Even though she had a follow up line, again the bluntness made me laugh hard.
  20. I'll be honest and admit that I do find myself disliking more female characters than male characters, which just irks me because I'm a female myself. I couldn't understand it, cause when I find a female character I like, I don't just like her - I absolutely LOVE her, and she becomes my favorite in the show. Brienne from Game of Thrones, Sloan from The Newsroom, Rosa from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Vanessa from Penny Dreadful, etc. It bugged me so much that I couldn't find a reason why I disliked so many female characters while at the same time adoring other female characters and honestly I think it's because of the writing. Most shows have more males than females and when the writing is poor I think the female characters suffer the most and it becomes more obvious because of the fewer female characters. Ziva from NCIS comes to mind when I think of this. Her character had so much potential but the writers narrowed her down to being defined by the relationships she had with the men in her life. I don't think she ever really had a plot that explored her character alone. The writing for the show suffered elsewhere as well, but I think it was more evident in Ziva's character because she was one of the lone females and was featured so prominently, so she became the face of that, if that makes any sense.
  21. I don't understand hate-watching either. I admit, I'm guilty of watching shows I've grown to dislike, but only because I'm always hopeful that it'll be as good as it once was. But I don't know why someone would want to watch a show that they either don't like or don't expect to like any time soon. Recently I've felt that way in the Game of Thrones fandom. I like the books and I like the show and while there have been some disappointments I'm still excited for what the show can bring. However, so many book readers watch the show while complaining that it's not as good as the books and how it'll never be as good. Why you would waste time watching a show that you've decided you're not going to like and then whine about it to people who still enjoy it is beyond me.
  22. Having watched a couple episodes of Law and Order: SVU recently, for me Olivia and Elliot belong here. Maybe not "hate" cause there are some episodes where they aren't too bad. But overall? Yup, can't stand them. Both have been unprofessional too many times to count and take it out on others when they're actually called out on it. The most annoying thing is they always excuse their actions with "we care about the victims!" and then they get mad at the ADAs who rightly tell them that acting like that will make it harder to prosecute the culprit. Just because some people know how to do their jobs professionally doesn't mean they don't care about the victims too, you two.
  23. I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's not that The Daily Show is where I got my news from. Instead, when I started watching it, it gave me just enough to make me interested to the point where I'd search for the whole story on my own. Though it did help to watch it when the news was being frustrating, so I definitely will miss it.
  24. I'm glad someone else noticed this, because I was actually thrilled that Amy had her own storyline away from Jake's breakup. Too many shows would put Amy in that awkward position of being the supportive one for him, having to be all "don't worry, there's someone else out there for you" when we all know it'll probably be her someday. Instead, Amy had her own plot, proving once again that this character is much more than a love interest for Jake. Not that I'm saying her being supportive would be bad, but I appreciated B99 not going for the obvious scene of having Jake's former crush being the one to console him. Just like I appreciated B99 not using Amy being drunk as an excuse for her to confess new feelings for Jake in the Beach House episode. It's just refreshing for a sitcom. As for the rest of the episode, good as always. Except while I do actually like Gina, I do really need the show to present an opportunity where she actually has to apologize to someone else (sincerely, mind you) instead of the other way around. She can be funny, but I need her to be brought down a notch (I'm still annoyed at her pouring her shake on Boyle's crotch last week - that was just mean).
  25. Random shallow moment time: Ever since the beginning of this season I've noticed there's been something different in Rosa's look. At first I'd thought she had more makeup on, but looking back it's not really that much more than the first season. I had the hardest time figuring out what it was and then last night it hit me - her lipstick. I'm not sure if she's not wearing any now or if she's wearing a different color but I kinda wish she'd go back to what she wore in season 1 cause she can totally rock the brighter lipstick look. And end shallow moment time.
