  1. I don’t see 4 weeks without the family car as a horrific punishment... It’s a way of giving the kid a consequence and not letting him just think, “eh, the insurance will cover it, so no big deal.” Maybe he’ll be a little more careful with the family car next time, in other words. My guess is that if he were in a more serious accident, involving more damage and/or injury but no negligence (e.g., texting, drinking), he’d be a little more upset and the parents may not be as focused on a punishment.
  2. I was gonna be impressed if you could slouch around Erika-style in Gucci! ;) Try Vans. Their women’s hoodies are really cute and comfortable, and sometimes they have florals.
  3. LOL ”Did you know that my daughters were ALMOST in all the big shows during Fashion Week? Michael Kors said it was ALMOST them but the spots went to all the other celebrity kids first. It’s ok that it worked out that way, because Harry said that he is so grateful for their famewhoring life in LA as it is. Famewhoring in NYC as a family just wouldn’t be the same.”
  4. Perhaps not but a) she’s lived in LA long enough to know traffic patterns and when to leave based on that, and b) I suppose I’m cynical but her “I’m on my way” felt a little like “We just pulled out of the driveway.”
  5. And it’s awful not just in SF—the time I quoted is in a suburb! And I know your area, too—lived there for a while :) Hope you survived the crazy recent storms with no damage. In any event I agree. I think Dorit and the truth have a little bit of a loose relationship. And she wants drama. Why not bring Boy George back? So much more fun than calling Camille nasty names. Unfortunately I think she’s taken on Rinna as a role model. Wonder if next season, she’ll announce that she’s little Jagger’s momager.
  6. I’ll do you one better! LOL* In the Bay Area there are areas that *technically* are 10-15 minute rides on surface streets (about 5 miles), but take 1.5 hours to traverse during certain times of the day. THANKS A LOT, WAZE. Even so, I’m sure LA is even *worse* and what was Dorit thinking, leaving the house even when she did? And feeling totally unrepentant about it? I used to be just “eh” about Dorit but between the drunken behavior at Kyle’s and this blasé attitude towards time, I’m over it. She’s totally bought her own press. * just being silly :)

    Carrie

@Melancholy I can understand your theory; it would be interesting to hear your thoughts in comparison if you did happen to watch it. I just felt like Carrie’s corners were rounded a bit too much in The Carrie Diaries. Certain things add up but others kinda don’t. It sounds funny to say that, when Candace Bushnell was involved with TCD, but I guess it’s just a “feeling” that may or may not translate when you’re showing backstory, with a different actress, after the fact. It’s funny, but I can see someone with the temperament of SJP’s character in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun being a closer match. A nice kid but a bit more edge. AnnaSophia Robb is just very cherubic and the character matches her in that way. A tiny bit too “nice” and a sort of fantasy for nice young girls who have dreams of making it in the Big City (of whom I would’ve been at that age! LOL). Nothing wrong with that :) It may have also been a function of trying to satisfy two audiences—girls who watched the CW, and SATC fans.
  8. I kinda loved that Matt sang “Go go go Joseph” (from “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat”) when Joe showed up to pick up Norma. But man, that whole thing was Awk. Ward. Layers and layers of awkward. Kim’s uncomfortable behavior, Matt’s clear discomfort, Nev’s prodding of the future of the relationship, everything.
  9. But coming from an employer... it just *sounds* bad, you know? Not that James didn’t need a whack to the head, reality-wise. I just don’t think it was a smart thing to say. I agree though—I don’t think that Ken would really smack him.
  10. Thought of that too! I don’t think it would take much to knock James out, though—but I don’t think he really would’ve done it. That said, threatening violence is not great, either.
  11. No matter what, the tack Dorit should’ve taken would be apologetic, not apoplectic. I had a friend who would pull the stuff Dorit was doing (except she’d use her kids, and other friends, as her excuse). “I thought we said 4:30, not 3:30.” “I just don’t have time to get things done, because Kid 1 had to do x and Kid 2 needed y, and...” “I ran into so-and-so and I haven’t seen her in a million years, and I just lost track of time.” Basically, it was my fault that she was 1/2 hour plus late, consistently, because I had crazy notions about “being on time” and “being responsible” and, you know, watching a clock. If she wasn’t plain-old late, she’d text me five minutes before we were going to meet to tell me (after I’d driven 1/2 hour to her house in a small community with nowhere to kill time) she needed an extra half hour or whatever. (Of course, one time I got to her house a couple minutes early and she blamed me for being late because her oven clock said a minute after the hour.) If she wasn’t a super-old friend, I wouldn’t have put up with it as long as I did—but yeah it got REALLY OLD and she refused to take my feelings into consideration, so now I see her like once or twice a year. Phew, sorry ;) So watching Dorit do that to Teddi? I’m like, nip it in the bud, sister, and come with receipts.
  12. Nadia Dajani (Nina “The Face Girl” Katz) turned up on The Carrie Diaries as a single mom that dated Carrie’s dad for a few episodes. I felt like she was sort of playing the same character, and her clothes didn’t feel “period” to me. She was ok. I thought she was kind of an odd actress to bring in as a callback to SATC.

    Carrie

I’ve been watching the Carrie Diaries, and I couldn’t help but wonder: Are we truly expected to believe that the sweet, naïve, and somewhat thoughtful Carrie of the Carrie Diaries is the same Carrie of SATC? Sure, there are common traits (love of Manhatttan, obsession with trendy style, overanalysis)—but Carrie Diaries Carrie at least shows *some* consideration for her friends, and evidences few of the traits that you’ve all enumerated so eloquently above. Carrie Diaries, BTW, is pretty cute. Maybe too sweet for some, but enjoyable. It’s like a girlier, trend-obsessed, East-Coast-ier version of Freaks and Geeks. OK maybe not *that* level of greatness. But a teen dramedy that really should’ve stood on its own. Oh yeah... the one who’s rumored to be modeled after RHONY Dorinda!
  14. The fact that they called this a “season finale” rather than a plain-ol’ finale was disheartening. I hope they don’t bring this back. I’d rather watch “On Tour With Renob” featuring Whitney and his Chanel guitar.
  15. Rinna and her mouth. Seriously, she couldn’t WAIT to bring up LVP’s legal stuff at the table. Such garbage to do that.
  16. I really felt for Kyle as she shared that she didn’t feel as though she could tell her sisters about her two new shows. I guess I’m softening on Kyle, in general.
  17. Oh, she DID win the lottery. But it was like, a $5 Scratcher.
  18. I did kinda wonder how she felt when Lala called her “dude”—but I guess Lala calls everyone “dude.” Still...
  19. Why do I feel like “the end I never saw coming” will be Shep saying, “I choose me!” Which is totally the end I see coming...
  20. Brittany, Tammy Wynette is no longer with us. You don’t have to “stand by your man,” especially if that guy is Jax.
