  1. Did I just watch an instructional cooking show involving chunking up potatos and onions tossing them w oil and in oven. Big tip is add peppers!! Then a tedious biscuit recipe which she has done before sausage and thickened milk and basic scam led eggs? Why didn't I change the channel! I was groggy??
  2. My tv said that was going to be episode last night but it wasn't. It may have been the other "first episode" where a psychiatrist kills his wife. It was two hours I think and pretty good although sorta slow. The villian was so controlled and calm it didn't give a ton of drama. Does anyone know when that episode fits in the timeline? The title sequence was really different too.
  3. Next challenge should be they all switch caricatures. Luca becomes butcher babe (dang and wut wut included) Butcher babe becomes Emma Princess tiara becomes Luca Emma has to do Lenny. And Lenny becomes Next challenge should be they all switch caricatures. Luca becomes butcher babe (dang and wut wut included) Butcher babe becomes Emma Princess tiara becomes Luca Emma has to do Lenny. And Lenny becomes Ack sorry! How do I edit? Lenny had to wear one of Giadas actual dresses --his cleavage would work
  4. Gah! The mentoring seasons were bad but this is awful too! First of all they tell us something like the challenge will be to cook a bite for one hundred people. Then cut to a talking head where a freak says " the challenge is to cook a bite for 100 people!!!!!" ( insert your choice of " I've totally got this!! or oh my god!! ). They are clearly choosing the most annoying people possible. Blond pageant girl started out as amusing fodder but has sucked up airtime with her shouty talking heads of empty words Butcher babe started out as the cooking competition for-some-reason requisite 50s retro person but has morphed into a cliche spouting (oh my god this challenge involvesmeat!! I'm definitely winning!!) loser. Jersey shore girl has exactly the zero personality or cooking chops or articulation skills that she appeared to have in the beginning. Guy eliminated last night's voice was like a popcorn kernel stick in my teeth. Intolerably annoying. Final two. Emma and Lenny Emma has little chance to win but if she really shows she can cook could end up on cooking channel. Where she can use her calm voice to condescend to us about her travels. Lenny wins and becomes guy fieri2. 6 eps of stupid cooking hamburgers. Then a lifetime of sharing his big personality and clear POV as shoves food in his maw and tells us about it. The good news: show can be watched in 23 minutes by skipping talking heads, repeated instructions, mini recaps and judging fuckery. Also Alton is beyond an ass hammer with his "go! Be gone! Chop chop ! We are the triumvirate!"
  5. HI! De-lurking because, dumplings! I want to try to make dumplings this way-on top of stuff instead of in broth! I can just use a standard dumpling recipe?(Sometimes I use Bisquick <shame>) For the pork chops I am thinking, put the sauerkraut in the bottom of a glass baking dish, raw pork chops on top of that, and dumpling dough on top of chops. If that is way off base let me know because I am going to try that soon! Thanks!
  6. Frankly, I think this show is ruined, completely. It's just totally about the chef's personal stories now, as we have all lamented many times. As Cooksdelight points out the food is not the star anymore. The last one I saw was chef with tough military father, woman from multiple foster homes, some other guy and an Asian lady who, hilariously, tried to make the fact that her parents loved her into a cry-worthy sob story. I have deleted the whole show from my DVR. RIP, Chopped, you were once young and beautiful!
  7. This is a really great show. I enjoy how complex and real everyone's lives are end the fact that there reactions to events seem realistic, not scripted stereotypes. I have only seen 6 of them ending with the Gruesome murder of the old lady with the bedridden husband. Is this the most recent season that I have seen? I think I have not seen the first season and this that I watched is season 2. Can anyone confirm that? Thanks!
  8. I just watched the one with George Hamilton as a research psychologist and Lesley Anne Warren as a subject. Good acting by all that is for sure, and always good tv when Columbo has a villain he can actually hate and be mad at- as opposed to the many sympathetic murderers in the series. I also love that the victim is also kinda a gross person (hitting his wife) so if George Hamilton's character were not so utterly skeevy he WOULD be a sympathetic villain. And he becomes utterly amoral as he becomes more desperate to cover up his initial manslaughter . WHich if he had admitted at the time he would probably not been charged since he was potentially saving the wife's life. His desperation leads to the small matter of his phone call in the second act and it's sad result. Anyway, acting and character development really carried the show on this one. Also excellent illustration of "What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive"!
  9. Yes, the fisherman's sweater with no bra! I believe that is the subtitle of the episode "Slow Cookin' (with free range boobs in a wide knit sweater!) This episode hooked me and this show taught me what TV snark is and brought so much laughter into my life! Did anyone see one where she reads letters from viewers (which are weird) and then straight to the camera apologizes to her college roommates parents for being drunk and inappropriate at their house? Maybe is was a holiday episode? What episode was that, I wonder if it is on You tube?
  10. Inspired by this board I made the watermelon, feta and mint salad. So refreshing- absolutely now a go-to for summer. The funny thing is, also inspired by this board, I cut the recipes in half and it was perfect amount so THANKS everyone! My contribution to favorite recipes is the peanut butter frosting in her barefoot Contessa at Home cookbook. Over chocolate cupcakes (or plain from a spoon!) , this can drive a grown peanut butter lover to tears of joy!
  11. Hi! I'm a new poster but need to share my SLop scars. I was learning to cook back when Food network was about instructional cooking shows. I had watched a SLop episode and been primarily struck by the absurdity of her body shape, large head and crazy cadence when she spoke. I pictured her as one of those women that are taking their kids ADD medication to stay thin. BUT then I tuned in for a slow cooker episode. Does anyone remember this one? She was utterly manic rushing between 4 different slow cookers, inadvertently stuck her hand in the chicken noodle soup- the whole thing was comical. THEN THE DESSERT. She put chunks of cinnamon raisin bread, canned apple pie filling, sugar, packets of maple brown sugar oatmeal, eggs, cream and rum extract into a slow cooker for bread pudding. The overly-sweet horror of that was beginning to sink in when she made a topping. She used powdered whipped cream (dream whip) and mixed it with ginger ale and poured this over the cooked "bread pudding". I am still very, very mentally scarred from this recipe. I can't forget it. I have flashbacks.
