Olympus Athens’ Top 10 Favorite Television Episodes Of 2015
By Olympus Athens   |  Tuesday, January 5th, 2016 at 8:30 pm

5. The Flash Season 2/Arrow Season 4 Crossover: Whenever the casts of these 2 shows intermingle, it brings up the level of awesome to crazy heights. There was an immortal, reincarnation, time travel, someone got shot, everyone died, a secret kid found, and they had (especially The Flash side) some of the best one-liners in either show’s history – especially from Cisco (Carlos Valdes). I heart Cisco. Plus, there were Flash and Captain Cold action figures.

Top 10 TV Shows I Didn’t Have Time to Watch in 2015 (But Will in 2016 … Hopefully)
by Maddy Myers  Tuesday, January 5th 2016 at 4:21 pm

9. Arrow

Not only have I not watched any of The Flash, I haven’t watched any of Arrow – so the exciting crossover event between these two shows only felt like further proof of how far behind I am on everything. You know what’s really sad? I like all of these characters and their source material(s)! These shows are for me! Hence why I really feel I’m missing out. Sigh.

When it comes to Arrow, the reason I didn’t watch at first was because I heard the first season was bad – so I figured I could safely ignore it and it’d get canceled. But then before I knew it, the show improved, and now everyone loves it. Now I’m stuck with a massive backlog — including a less-than-stellar first season to slog through before I can get to the good stuff. Anybody got a skip list for me?

USD POLL : Who is your favorite superhero/heroine of DC TV (not including Gotham)?

Posted by Raina at Sunday, January 10, 2016

http://www.spoilertv.com/2016/01/usd-poll-who-is-your-favorite.html

Strictly speaking, only Barry, Kara, Cisco, the Hawk folks "qualify" for that list, I think. We're talking about superheroes, people with superpowers, not very skilled individuals, and as much as I enjoy Oliver Queen's archery prowess I don't think it can be considered a superpower. Also, putting on a mask doesn't make people automatic superheroes, or heroes, for that matter.

I saw it yesterday but refused to vote because Felicity wasn't on it.  Nor were Lyla or Caitlyn while Cisco and Firestorm were, although Cisco hasn't done anything superhero-like and neither has the new Firestorm guy yet.  And we haven't even met Rip Hunter.

If you're looking at physical fighting activity, Felicity has done more than Ray has to this point.  Stupid masks and costumes.  They're not what makes a superhero.

It's fascinating to read the comments because you see what people's definition of superhero, or just hero, is. Like there was one who said Cisco shouldn't be there because he isn't "suited up." So that person's primary indication is a suit. Another person said Felicity standing behind computers is not heroic. *SMH* Yeah, let's ignore the sacrifices she's made and have been willing to make to save the people of Starling City.

The determinant for who is on the list is all over the place but everyone who is there has a suit and a mask except for Cisco, who has a meta-human power which is like something from Medium, an old ESP show.  On the other hand, Lyla, who could probably beat half those characters in a fight, didn't make it.  Caitlyn will have powers but hasn't yet so why is Rip Hunter on it but not her?

Everyone on that list is a superhero, that's what they are considered in comics, in movies, that is the general term to describe them.

Everyone on the list may be considered a superhero in comics, although it's a list of DC TV characters and some haven't appeared yet on the shows, but not all the DC TV superheros are on the list.

It used to be that a doctor was defined as a male who learned medicine.  Only men could be knights, or inherit land.  Times change as civilizations mature.

It's time to expand the 'superhero' definition to what you do, not how you dress.

I agree with your criticisms about who's been left off the poll and that the poll is biased.  However, I voted in it.  I can't control who's listed in the poll, but I can control my vote in promoting who on the list I want to see rise to the top.  So I voted for Oliver and Diggle.

4 Jewish Characters Who Changed the Media Landscape in 2015
by E.R. Weiss  Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 2:05 pm
http://www.themarysue.com/4-jewish-characters-who-changed-the-television-landscape-in-2015/

3. Felicity Smoak is the standard Jewish character I was used to, but better. Her Judaism mostly comes up in terms of holidays. Early in the season, she has a baffling moment of confessing her religion to her boss, Oliver Queen. She gets more confident about her heritage, and when asked in a later season what her holiday plans were, she responds quite proudly, “Lighting my menorah.” She also puts dirt (actually, the correct custom is stones, but I won’t quibble) on the grave of a loved one, and wishes friends, “Mazal Tov,” on their new baby. She’s a strong, beautiful woman and a great model for girls, Jewish or not.

21 Best TV Shows Based on Comic Books, Ranked by Awesomeness

4. 'Arrow' (2012 - Present)

One of the CW's most popular shows, "Arrow" is essentially "Batman Begins" but with the Green Arrow. In fact, the show recently brought in the Dark Knight's mentor/nemesis, Ra's al Ghul, to play Big Bad.) "Arrow's" Nolan-y touches only enhance its action-packed storytelling as the series embraces its comic book origins while serving as ground zero for DC's ever-expanding stable of small-screen franchises.

And here's the Wikipedia link:

This is a list of fictional supercouples — fictional couples who have been titled supercouples by the media, usually with the addition of substantial fan support; they may have been referred to as power couples or dynamic duos, and are often defined by a standard set of criteria or circumstances; these circumstances include mania (significant press and media attention being placed on the couple, having to do with charm rather than negativity), the couple being labeled a supercouple by valid sources, the couple having notably impacted popular culture (such as by mania or by becoming a defacto symbol for its genre), and having been listed as an all-time top romance. Each of these examples have been identified by scholars, critics and press as defining supercouples.

I like that the "years of reign" start in 2012, so even the time when Felicity was just Oliver's personal internet researcher counts.

(I also noticed the absence of an alleged "iconic" couple in the Comics section.)

I get why they put the image of Curtis with Felicity and Dig instead of with his husband due to their recognizability. But man, does that paint a different, and possibly disappointing picture to non-viewers. :)

I guess they also missed the killing of the bisexual character by throwing her at a garbage dumpster and sticking her fridge. Then giving more screentime with her girlfriend to her straight sister. Along with as mentioned above, forcing a lesbian character to marry a man.

They wouldn't have seen any of that, because the nominations are for media that was aired/published between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. So if anything, they saw a bisexual character resurrected in the most ridiculous way possible.

ARROW
Arrow is a modern retelling of the DC Comic character Green Arrow. Multi-millionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing, and presumed dead after a shipwreck at sea. He is found five years later, having survived on a desert island off his wits and by mastering the bow and arrow. When he returns to Starling City however, he discovers that it is rife with corruption and crime. Olicity - Oliver and Felicity from "Arrow"
Felicity (Emily Bett Reckards) was introduced in "Arrow" as a one-episode guest star, but the character hit a chord with fans, and now she is arguably the most popular member of Team Arrow. Her chemistry with Oliver (Stephen Amell) was also evident from their first scene together. Their relationship has evolved from that of an employer-employee to friends to lovers beautifully on the show, and fans are loving it.

Escape into these television romances
BY GABRIELA VELASQUEZ | FEB. 10, 2016
http://move.themaneater.com/stories/2016/2/10/escape-these-television-romances/#.Vr4hl_krLIU

OLIVER QUEEN AND FELICITY SMOAK (“ARROW”)

Felicity, quite literally, came out of nowhere. What was supposed to be a guest stint for actress Emily Bett Rickards turned into one of the most popular love stories on television today. Before Felicity Smoak graced our television screens, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was stuck in a lackluster love triangle and “Arrow” itself lacked a spark.

But throughout the last few seasons, watching the growing admiration-turned-friendship-turned-romance between Oliver and Felicity has been an absolute joy. “Olicity” is the heart and soul of “Arrow,” and their chemistry hasn’t diminished in the slightest as their relationship has grown and developed.

Felicity makes the show fun to watch, and we are allowed to see how much happier Oliver is with her around. His feelings for her very much mimic the audiences: She makes what can be, at times, a very dark show a blast.

CR is one of Just About Write's MVP's for 414...

Series: This Week's TV MVPs - Week 29
http://www.itsjustaboutwrite.com/2016/02/series-this-weeks-tv-mvps-week-29.html

Marilyn’s MVP: Charlotte Ross as Donna Smoak (Arrow)

Why she's the MVP: I’m always ridiculously excited to see Mama Smoak in an episode of Arrow, ever since "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak" aired and we got our first good glimpse into Felicity’s life outside of the Arrow lair. Charlotte Ross burst onto the scene in a bright dress and high heels and stole our hearts as the eternally upbeat Donna Smoak. But there was more to her character than a ditzy cocktail waitress who seemingly had virtually nothing in common with her genius daughter.

We saw these layers in breathtaking technicolor in this last week’s episode of Arrow, “Code of Silence.” One of my favorite scenes had Charlotte Ross and Paul Blackthorne playing off each other (and, good lord, they have fantastic chemistry, don’t they?). Meeting up at Oliver’s campaign office, Donna Smoak went from flirty and sultry to concerned when she saw Quentin was banged up to steely and angry. And she did it all in the span of about sixty seconds.
*  *  *
Every now and then, Charlotte Ross gives us these glimpses of Donna’s more serious side and it always, always leaves me wanting more. Donna’s heartfelt discussion with Felicity at the loft, where she admitted to wanting a love like Felicity had with Oliver, brought tears to my eyes.

Charlotte Ross brings such a lovely energy to the show, to the rest of the cast, and it’s one of my deepest wishes that she is brought back as a regular for season five.
