peeayebee June 25, 2014 Share June 25, 2014 Oooo, I love Radiolab. I don't listen to it regularly, but whenever I do, it's absolutely fascinating. Link to comment
trow125 July 14, 2014 Author Share July 14, 2014 Based on their (staged) exchange on Twitter this morning, it looks like Wednesday's "TBA" is going to be Mayor Bill DeBlasio. Link to comment
Victor the Crab July 15, 2014 Share July 15, 2014 I would have liked to have seen Stephen bring out Hans so we could have seen him celebrate Germany's World Cup victory. John Boehner and the right wing Catholic douchenozzles on the Supreme Court are why America will never be able to break free of the deathgrip conservatives have on everything in the country. And I love how Stephen takes apart these ridiculous new products and creates his own fictional products that make about as much sense but arte hilarious to think about. 2 Link to comment
ABay July 15, 2014 Share July 15, 2014 I would have liked to have seen Stephen bring out Hans so we could have seen him celebrate Germany's World Cup victory. Yes! I was so hoping to see Hans, too! Would even the World Cup win counter his usual message of bleakness and endless despair? Link to comment
peeayebee July 15, 2014 Share July 15, 2014 'Toylyt' was great. Of course the whole segment about vessyl was hilarious. I was a little disappointed in the Radiolab interview. I wish they would have at least mentioned some of the stories they've had on the show, not just "What is time?" Link to comment
StatMom July 15, 2014 Share July 15, 2014 "Is there any part of being a cup this thing CAN'T do?" I hope they put the part about how it can sit on a tabletop into the promotional video. That's something I definitely look for in a drinking device. Link to comment
Brandi Maxxxx July 15, 2014 Share July 15, 2014 I expect we'll lose all the lesbian prison sex when Colbert moves to CBS. (I hope someone reads that without knowing the context.) 1 Link to comment

That's something I definitely look for in a drinking device. I was assuming that it couldn't be put in the dishwasher, but I don't think anyone mentioned that either way. 2 Link to comment
Brandi Maxxxx July 15, 2014 Share July 15, 2014 I'm wondering if they'll also invent a special accessory that will let you take your beverage with you in the car. Link to comment
Victor the Crab July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 BEARS! It's been too long since Stephen warned us about these GODLESS KILLING MACHINES!!! But I feel for Pyros, who faces castration. Leave him be people. Try castrating Bill O'Reilly instead. Loved the interview with Vint Cerf. It sounded more like Al Gore was the mouthpiece of the internet, while Cerf, Robert Kahn, and others did all the hard work. 1 Link to comment
peeayebee July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 That was a fun show. Stephen mocking The Enlightenment was perfect. The Threat Down - All-Bear Edition was great. ("Let's Go: Eat Children") The graphic of the bear in the shark suit cracked me up, and it was hilarious when we see Pyros masturbating. I didn't expect to enjoy the interview as much as I did. Vint Cerf is an excellent evangelist. So great when they put up the pic of the Architect from The Matrix. What was the deal with those boots Stephen was wearing? Was it something to do with Kinky Boots? Link to comment
attica July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 So great to see a Bear-Down. I don't see why they can't do a vasectomy on Pyros, rather than castration. Let him have his fun. 1 Link to comment

Lantern7 July 16, 2014 Share July 16, 2014 (edited) Heads up: Stephen is slated to announce a new Captain America title on tonight's show. Here's the speculation as to who would fill Steve Rodgers' boots, in case you want to get spoiled. ETA: You can never go wrong with bears . . . though it's tough to beat the footage of bears grinding their backs on trees while stripper music plays. That was awesome. On the flip side, I didn't need to see bear self-manipulation, thank you very much. And I don't really need to think about ursine pole-smoking, either . . . though I can now torture my mother by saying, "Hey, Boo Boo!" so that's neat. ETA2: Well, the speculation was right about Sam "Falcon" Wilson being the new Cap. Joe Quesada showing up with a pic of "Stephen" as Falcon was a cute gift. Victor the Crab July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 So the new Captain America will be African American. Get ready for the total massive freakout from the right wing noise machine. Remember how they reacted when a black latino became an alternate universe Spider-Man? 2 Link to comment
Hanahope July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 The bear in the hammock was the funniest thing. Link to comment
Brandi Maxxxx July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 Surely with all the talk of superheroes and falcons, there should have been a Harvey Birdman reference in there somewhere. Link to comment
Victor the Crab July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 America is doomed after watching tonight's show. There are too many assholes ruining the country. 3 Link to comment
Fremde Frau July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 I've lost count of the number of times that I've thought "I want out of this country" while reading the news or watching these shows. When did this anti-education movement start, anyway? How can people be so proud to act so stupidly, then wave off criticism by crying "freedom"? 2 Link to comment
peeayebee July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 I'm appalled by coal rolling, but I'm not surprised. My right-wing BIL gets ANGRY when he sees smart cars. A friend who drives a smart car told me about another driver who yelled at her about her car. It's inane that some people get mad at others who want to be environmentally responsible. Link to comment
Gilmel July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 I get mad when I'm behind them and they won't accelerate to the speed limit on the freeway. There are a lot of smart cars, Priuses especially, in my area and the joke about this is a noticeable pattern. Link to comment
Latverian Diplomat July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 Loved the interview with Vint Cerf. It sounded more like Al Gore was the mouthpiece of the internet, while Cerf, Robert Kahn, and others did all the hard work. Gore was much more than just talk. He pushed through congress the funding for key bits of infrastructure and research at crucial points, like the NSFnet backbone that Cerf mentioned. One thing I like about Cerf is that he has always squashed the "Al Gore claimed to invent the Internet" lie every time he gets asked about it. Also, Cerf was a key player obviously, but literally hundreds of researchers made important contributions. I wish Colbert and Cerf had mentioned that, but the format and time limits usually don't allow all the complexities to come through. 2 Link to comment
trow125 July 19, 2014 Author Share July 19, 2014 How is coal rolling legal? At first I thought it was some kind of cosmetic fake smoke, like the CGI "smoke" coming from Stephen's desk, but when they showed the dude whose face turned black after being sprayed, I would guess it's real. Aren't there laws about emissions? Though I would imagine that the numbers of "coal rollers" is pretty small, considering the $5K price tag Stephen mentioned. Link to comment
Wilbur Whateley July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 (edited) How is coal rolling legal? It's legal because FREEDOM! Also, PUNCH A HIPPIE!, I'M A MAVERICK, BABY!, and SOCIALISM!! Hope that clarifies matters. (Edited because I can't spell hippie.) Edited July 19, 2014 by Wilbur Whateley 3 Link to comment
ALenore July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 I'm just waiting for the day when someone coal rolls the wrong Prius driver, who is carrying a firearm and decides to "stand his ground". 3 Link to comment
Fremde Frau July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 (edited) I think there are stricter laws about emissions in states like California, but it's apparently up to each individual state to regulate (or not regulate) it. Here is a good Slate article about the coal rolling, trow. And here is the EPA's official answer on it. (This TPM article from this month highlights the relevant paragraphs.)
