I don't think I've ever seen this one, I'll have to go look for it.

You're in for a treat, it was a funny one.

The best line? "Yeah, well, nice try, egg-ass." 😂

Just watched the episode (first in a 3 or 4 episode arc) where Marie and Debra have a huge fight and stop speaking to each other.  This episode, to me, is a good example of what I really like about ELR.

The whole fight made sense - this was very real, played for laughs, but real.  Debra overreacted when Marie showed up unannounced with two friends - she embarrassed Marie and I didn't blame Marie for being angry about that.  However, and this is a big however, after that everything else was on Marie.  She was a complete and total bitch.

Anyway I liked that it wasn't a straightforward situation, there was some nuances there.

I look forward to the episode where things get resolved - The Cult, definitely one of my top 10 - preceded though by one I really dislike, the flashbook to Marie interfering and trying to prevent Debra and Ray (still boyfriend/girlfriend at this point) from having sex.  Ugh.  All levels of inappropriate in this one!

Good episode. I liked how Ray & Frank started arguing too, with Ray defending Marie, and Frank taking Debra's side. I have seen that irl and it brings out some hidden feelings.

Ray: She could have given Mom a little joy!

Frank: Who is she to demand joy when Debra is wrestling with the damn kids?

Ray: She didn't have to be so rude!

Frank: Rude is the only thing she understands!

I loved Father Hubley in that one:

"What?! Wait a minute! Is there even a lasagna here?!"

Love that episode! It's hilarious from top to bottom. Another one in my Top 5, with Jazz Records. I may have to go on a binge to confirm the other three. Okay, I love the one where Someone! Hates! Raymond!

My top 5 list keep changing but the She's The One episode with Robert's date and the fly "and then she aaaaatttteee it" is always going to be on it!

I love the end tag of She's The One, where Robert is moping in a bar, a waiter trips and spills drinks all over someone, who turns out to be Amy. That is when Robert & Amy got back together for the last time, then got married.

I also like Ray's Ring, Marie's Sculpture, Golf For It. Along with longtime favesJazz Records and The Faux Pas.

I love it too - and the audience reaction is gold.  But I always wonder what someone who hasn't seen the show before - or at least not with Amy in it - must think!

I loved it when Frank would stand up for Debra.

The show was excellent about what life is like when you marry into a family that you do not understand.

Marie and Debra might as well be aliens to each other in the way they approach life.

I know we will never get a reunion show but I would have loved to see what Ray and Debra would have been like as the wheel of life turned and they became the grandparents to the next generation.  Debra in particular - would she have become a Marie to a future DIL or would she have been more like her own mother?

Debra Makes Something Good is on right now and it's one of my all time favorites.  From Marie taking Ray's pants, to Robert sitting in the sauce, to Frank bring Debra flowers and his "I'll call you".  It's all just so good.

I love that episode.

It also makes me want to eat what Debra cooked (Marie would say, "Poor dear, you must be desperate for nourishment.")

If she was a Marie, she'd be a Marie in a different way.  I can't see her getting all crazy about cleaning and food.

One twist they could have tried was having Michael or Geoffrey marry someone just like Marie, move into the house across the street and be over constantly with advice and food.  Of course given Ray and Debra would be in their 60s at this point a daughter in law coming over to clean wouldn't be a terrible thing!

Or Allie marries a guy who watches TV all the time and doesn't help with the kids and Deborah gets on his case.

I think she'd be closer to Marie than her own mother, much as she'd hate to admit it. Not about cooking or cleaning, but I can see her being an overbearing force in her kids' lives and being unpopular with her daughter in laws. There's definitely a more controlling side to her than what was shown of her mother's character.

Those curtains totally clashed with the wallpaper! It must have been done as an inside joke.

Yep, when the contractor was in the kitchen showing samples all I could think is "You mean you needed to hire a professional to come up with THOSE curtains???" considering that they got the same ones!

I just found this forum and didn’t know ELR was playing anywhere. I went to Netflix and Amazon so it’s on Peacock on my cable service which I’m not willing to add to my 3 streaming channels. I’d especially like to see The  Contractor one since we were in the audience. It was interesting how the crew took  pictures of the kitchen down to the  last detail in order to put it all back exactly.
I can picture Patrica sitting long faced during breaks and Brad came over and chatted with the audience. They also brought in a slice of pizza.  Good times.

It also plays six nights a week on the TV Land channel.

I love Debra's pajamas and Amy's sweaters. On an episode I saw last week Debra was wearing satiny pajamas in the most beautiful color of mauve I ever saw.

Ray Romano decided early on not to have anything timely or trendy to date the show. All the costumes are classic styles.

I looked it up since I hadn’t heard of that station and it says “TV land is the programing for consumers in their 30s and 40s, with original series and acquisitions” only showing Mike and Molly but I looked on guide and the Contractor one is on Tuesday thanks!

Amy became my favorite member of the family because she and her parents did not seem like assholes.

My favorite Peter moment:

Peter: Are you with the l.R.S.?
Ray: No!
Peter: You look like l.R.S.
Ray: I do?
Peter: No, that's just it. You don't.

Lol, was that when Paul Reubens was Peter?

I never really liked Chris Elliot.

They just aired that Hackidu episode here yesterday and it's still daisy fresh!  Paul Reubens was awesome - oh the road not taken when they decided not to bring him back as Russell - but I think my favourite line was Marie's "I'm Grandma, I've got this and candy."

I just saw the Fairies episode where the twins have parts in a school play and it does not go well.  Anyone else as surprised as I to see that the children had any energy at all let alone riotous, rambunctious energy?  All three of those children had to be to quietest children in the history of children!

Is this the time when Ray says "If my wife wasn't so snippy...."

(evil look from Debra) "Yes I said snippy! We could all be having a nice Mother's Day breakfast now!"

This was the big thing I grew to dislike as the series progressed.  In the first couple of years while Ray wasn't good about drawing a line with his parents he did defend Debra and tried to be a peacemaker.  By the last years of the show he rarely, if ever, took Debra's side with his mother - or with anyone else for that matter.

I remember Debra calling him out on it when she said, "If you weren't so busy defending your saint of a mother..." when Marie sneaked the bottle of tarragon to Debra so her recipe would be ruined.

Every time I make spaghetti sauce I think of this scene and Ray mispronouncing tarragon!  To give Ray credit he did realize that Marie had gone too far and he went over and challenged her.  Marie: "damn glue stick" 😆

The only thing that bugs me about the mother's day one, and why I don't defend Debra here, is that she was pretty miserable to her kids that day.

My nomination for Darkest Moment of the Show

When the family including Amy are out for dinner, and they see Joanne, Robert's first wife there. Joanne says hello, gives Robert her card, he crumples it and puts it in a glass.

Then when they are all leaving, Robert stays behind, and Ray comes back and sees Robert taking the card back out of the glass. Ray & Robert don't speak but the looks they give each other speak volumes.

And this kicks off Robert being a total jerk.  He's dating Amy but he fools around with Stefania while in Italy and is seeing Joanne as well.  The scene where Ray and Frank act like he's hot stuff because he's seeing three women is annoying as hell.  They act like he's doing what any red blooded guy would do and his only mistake is that he is going to tell Amy about the other two women.  Ugh.

Robert certainly loved emotional pain.

It felt like his first wife treated him horribly and he secretly loved it.

I felt as if, underneath the "nice job, man" comments, Frank & Ray thought Robert should realize what he has in Amy, and keep that good thing going.
