I’m trying a rewatch of this show for the first time in many years. Well, I guess since it ended. It hasn’t aged well, IMO. It’s possible there’s just been too much good television in the last five years.

As silly as the books were, some of the changes the show made really didn’t do it any favors.

I remember when the whole Russell Edginton plot seemed hilariously twisted and campy, and now it’s just ... hard to even watch.

Also? I would love a supercut version that gets rid of all of Jason’s B-plots, all of Sam’s b-plots, and most of Terry and Arlene’s b-plots. They can also take Hoyt and Jessica. And I’m only on season 4.

I wasn’t even an Eric/Sookie shipper, and I’d forgotten how irritating it is that they make Eric into a total moron during his amnesia. It wouldn’t have killed them to throw a romantic bone into the campy soup of that arc.

(Currently watching him derp around after killing Claudine.)

I have a rant and have to let it out.

(Keep in mind I still haven't seen S7 and I've seen seasons 1-6 two or three times each)

The Eddie storyline kills my heart and boils my blood everytime. I never could forgive Jason for the rest of the series. Amy is there with Janice & AJ Soprano for my most hated characters ever; however, unlike Aida (and to an extent, Robert), the actress is not all that great. Ugh. I hate FF'ing scenes--especially with Stehen Root!!--but I just can't take it. Never since the cheating on Brenda by Dylan & Kelly have I raged at such a storyline.

I feel better. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest! 😁🤗

Oddly I like those B plots and could do without most of the bill, eric, sookie plotlines — also a lot less maryann and the later russell plots and almost all the fairy stuff! It WAS nice seeing Rutger Hauer

I thought the ending worked well. I could see everyone just maxing out on the drama. I also thought that close to the right amount of time was spent on it and it was nice to have a happy ending.

It did seem like Bill was going to become human for a while but maybe that was the point of the disease. It humanizes you and then kills you.

Hi All! I just started Season 1. Ive never seen this show and for years have been trying but never had HBO but my internet provider is offering to watch all the Seasons for free so why not. Im not done with S1: Ep 1 was it does seem corny at times. I will try to watch it a bit and see what gives.

I'm rewatching it from the beginning while working from home, thanks to HBO making it free to non subscribers on their streaming services.  I've read all the books and it's probably for the best that the showrunners only followed the general plots of the books through season 4.  The book series was 13 books, and the first half are the better written ones.  The initial fan reaction to the last one was so negative that Charlaine Harris canceled her promotional tour for it.

One noticeable difference between it and current HBO shows is that the first 5 seasons has 12 instead of 10 episodes.  Those extra two episodes really do make a difference in how much screen time the side characters' plots get.  I would miss some characters, like Hoyt, Jessica, Tara and Lafayette, as well as Jason who actually got plots that weren't tied to his relationship with Sookie with those extra episodes.  On the other hand, I would not miss some of Sam and Arlene's plots being cut.

There are a lot of changes from the books to the series, most for the better.  Jessica is a show only character, and a great addition.  Jessica and Bill's vampire child/parent relationship is one of the highlights of the show.  Jason stays human instead of becoming a werepanther as he does in the books.  The show chooses to omit most of the paranormal werecreatures that take up much of the focus of the second half of the series, which is a mercy because most of them are fairly one dimensional characters in the book.

Frankly by the time it was over, heck even a season or two before that. it was already aging badly.

What started as just a few clips on Youtube, trying to remember some things from the last couple seasons turned into me actually re-watching some of the final season. Not sure if I'll actually watch the final episode, since I hated it so much (gee, why has it take almost 7 years to revisit this show I was once obsessed with?)  but I am glad to be reminded of some of the fun things about the final season.  I mean, it was still bad... so bad... and even re-reading my own optimistic posts on here from earlier in the season kind of made me laugh.... But I can find the humor in the really bad flashback wigs and some of the backstory we didn't need but got anyway in said flashbacks... and also some good character moments from my favorites... I haven't made it to the last few episodes yet when things get rushed (while somehow dragging ass) and even stupider.. but I can always enjoy Eric and his ten gallon hat... and I still fast forward all of Lettie Mae's bullshit... makes me so mad that Tara got screwed out of the final season.... But anyway.... True Blood was an interesting ride with a pretty amazing case who did the dumb shit the writers wrote....

The reboot idea is lame, and I do so, so , so miss Nelsan Ellis in this world.

The first episode of True Blood had me hooked. Then it rapidly started down that slippery slope. But I should go back and rewatch just for the (above mentioned) bad bad wigs!

I made it mostly to the end, but not the whole final episode... not willing to watch Bill die again... and jumping back to the first episode leaves a much better taste, the first season is so good...

TNT? Edited versions? Really?

I was looking forward to watching when I heard True Blood would be on starting with ep 1 on Saturday night. This is absolutely ridiculous. It would have to be cut to shreds for network TV.
