That is the one thing that is so frustrating & sad about WIPs. The anticipation of new chapters is great. But when the updates never come it's so hard to let go of some of the stories. About 75% of my 90 bookmarks are WIP, some I don't miss, but some are still heart wrenching that I may never know how they end.

Still mourning the loss of "For Blue Skies" and "For Darker Days"... I really can't hang chemo most of the time at my job without thinking of that story.

I miss "For Blue Skies," too and worry about the author.

One of my favorite WIPs that I've gone such long stretches without an update is "What Wouldn't I Do" by BookofLife. She recently updated after several months, and I nearly squealed when I checked A03 that morning.

ChronicOlicity is so incredibly prolific, but I discovered her fics after they were already completed.  I can't imagine what it's like to stay with a story for that long as it's updated.

Whyy did you bring this up? I really liked that one but forgot a lot about it, so I started rereading it from the beginning. And managed to finish the first 6 chapters. Meaning I didn't even get to the update.

I find this very funny in a juvenile way.

JSevick's Forver

A short, post-4x15 fic for those who felt cheated out of a gutwrenching break up. It offers some Felicity's post-breakup perspective. It's really short but thight. It packs a punch and gets to the point in a small word count.

Just wanted to warn about some vitriol, disguised as fanfic, thrown at Felicity Smoak - I don't know why these two bother me more than the hilariously misspelled ones we looked at recently - they seem more hateful, somehow:

Taken-how-it-should-have-happened

This masterpiece ends with Oliver saying " . . . I'm done running after you." No, really. This is not a joke. I'd like an itemized list of the many times Oliver ran after Felicity, please.

Second fanfic with agenda is called:

Put-The-Smoak-Out

In it, the author gleefully describes Damien Darhk murdering Felicity with a gunshot to the head - all graphically described. The reviews are all his buddies congratulating him, except for two guest reviews which are negative.

I put the links in so they can be avoided, in an "I read it so you don't have to", sort of way. I wish I hadn't, really.

ETA - I think I'm really pissed off because they're both rated T, but the second one is gruesomely violent, which I guess is fine? But beware if a penis is too graphically described entering a vagina and the story is given an M rating - then we get hounded and harassed. It's the usual story - bloody violence, especially against women, is AOK. Sex? Oh, HELL NO.

LMAO. I needed a laugh today. That was pretty funny. It's amazing how many men have the same opinion of Felicity about this situation. Pretty telling, IMO.

Dudebros who feel emasculated by a fictional character, man. Those are my faves. How dare she, amirite.

That's absolutely the subtext - "how dare she".

And the reviews are full of his fellow dudebros congratulating him for dealing with Felicity right, finally! Bleurgh.

I'm guessing this is the fandom equivalent of revenge porn.

The author of the first fic needs therapy if a fictional character bothers him so much. He's the same guy that wrote all those other poorly spelled and composed stories that kill off Felicity after making her a villain.

Look at them posting at the same time and leaving glowing reviews for each other. Quite a mutual admiration club they've got going.

You kinda lose points for announcing what kind of women is sexually attractive to you in a convo about emasculation, though.

huh? he didn't say anything about "sexually attractive" (though I assume there is some of that).

Some men do find "strong beautiful kind no nonsense women" attractive and a turn on in the romantic sense- which I think is what he meant, that Felicity is the type of woman he would be happy to date.

That's exactly what I meant, though -- the problematics of the value of women -- and female fictional charcaters -- being measured by their potential as dates and/or sexual partners above everything else. "I like Felicity because I would love to date her" is pretty reductive. And it IS part of the emasculation fear: that if women don't solely fulfill this exact role in society of being perennial romantic partners, they become a threat. Edited by dtissagirl

Yes that's what I meant thank you!

But this is now super off topic, so I'm stepping out.

I'm sorry i didn't mean it like that! I value Women for more than their looks

Yes I'm realizing that and how it looks and I'm going to change that. I think the actress has a lot more than looks going for her

Well, as a gay man, I can honestly say if I were straight I'd totally be talking about how smoaking hot Felicity is. Because duh. But honestly that has a lot to do with Felicity's straight forward, acerbic personality that drew me to even look at her surface appearance in the first place because I don't usually go for blondes. Her persona kind of..I don't know enhances her beauty.

I always felt like personalities always, always, have the ability to enhance one's beauty or ruin it.

Ex. In the 1st season I never knew whether I felt Felicity was pretty or not. But once I got to know the character as well as the actress, I now think she's one of the most beautiful characters/actresses on the show.

Ex2. I alwyas thought SA was really REALLY hot in seasons 1-2, and then the whole texas/dudebro thing happened and now I don't find him as good looking anymore. I legit only find SA good looking when he's playing Oliver.

To be fair though, how many of the posts about SA that aren't about what an idiot he's being are about how sexy or hot he is?  Or the ones about David Ramsey, especially after that photoshoot?

For me 90% of sexual attraction is about brains and personality, which is why I barely remember Hot Scott from Private Practice.

LOL, all that fic showed was that Felicity was more of a danger to DD than Oliver was.

p.s. I reported on the rating. The idea of Felicity's brains splattered all over the place really needs to be higher, especially since she's a loved character by many young people.

Chapter 10 of Forever is Composed of Nows is up and my take away is - Moira Queen is a God damned mofo. The chapter really encapsulated her beautifully, in that you're cheering her one second and then the next you're taken aback in how cut throat she really is, while simultaneously wondering if she isn't right.

That chapter reminded me why I miss Moira, why this show needed Moira. All that lost potential, simply because she wasn't a mask. *Shakes head*

I was surprised they dealt with Slade that quickly, though I'm guessing that's not the end. Either way it was a great chapter and finally felt like something was actually happening. I've been pretty bored by the last few chapters so this was good.

I'm ABSOLUTELY in agreement with Moira. Cut his head off. Ain't nobody coming back from that. Oliver's no-kill stance is often totally absurd. If Slade never comes back in the show it's bc of BTS stuff with Manu.

It'd be so interesting to watch how this would all play out going forward. I'm wondering if somehow their minds will be wiped. Otherwise there's no way S3 would happen AT ALL how it did. Oliver would be relatively happy knowing he got to end up with Felicity and two kids, his mom alive, Thea maybe not off chilling with Malcolm, and definitely not willing to tra la la after RAG now that he knows what he has to live for. No more slow suicide for him, so basically everything would be different.

Even in his state, Slade was still a threat. I don't imagine him not coming back.

I can't see him posing any kind of a threat completely blind, though. Here, yes, because he had an idea of where everyone was before he got knifed in the eye. The text made it seem like he pulled he whole eyeball out when he removed the knife, and we know that doesn't regenerate. I suppose Waller could build him a bionic eye or something. Or maybe they just had him wind up in the ARGUS cell he's in now in a different way, and this is it.

Since Oliver's already realized he wants this life and he hasn't "damned" Felicity and Ellie, I can't imagine there's too many chapters left, but what do I know? Maybe there are.

Well that chapter happened... I have to admit for being so excited that the plot was gonna intensify because Slade came back, I was kinda disappointed with the chapter.

I'm glad Moira is a freaking badass, and I have to agree with her that she seems to have a far better plan for disposal than shipping Slade off to Argus.

But now that Slade has been taken care of what is there to do? It seems like such a waste of Slade's character. I do think there is a possibility he gets bionic or regenerated eye and comes back to reek havoc. However, I'm not really looking forward to that. I really wish they had drawn out the action of Slade's surprise visit just a little longer. Perhaps he could have actually taken Ellie &/or FS. Then it would have set in motion a mission to rescue them. I don't know it just seemed like such a build up for Slade and it was over in a couple paragraphs.

It didn't seem from the comments on Twitter that they were winding down the story, although this chapter felt like it. Slade's army is built at this point, isn't it? So the soldiers would still be out there. All they're missing is a general. Isabel?

Link to comment

Yeah, Roy is already missing and his blood being used to create the army. Even if Slade is taken care of, their problems are not over.

Turns out Moira and I think alike. Saw his damn head off.  Put it through a wood chipper.  Mirikuru ain't bringing that back. It's a serum, not immortality juice.

Remove the head or destroy the brain.

Actually, I'd remove the head right away, then put ERRYTHING through the wood chipper. And it's an estate, you KNOW their grounds crew has a wood chipper.
