possibilities November 12, 2018 Share November 12, 2018 (edited) I assume the Ariana Grande ringtone was planned, and either they didn't warn Pete, or they warned him but he's doing his job as an actor. I don't think Crenshaw actually has an Ariana Grande ringtone on his phone in real life, though that would be kind of amazing if he did. I honestly wasn't offended by the eye patch joke. Yeah, he lost the eye through military service. But still-- I don't think it's in the same category as mocking disabled people for our disabilities. I think there are enough pirate tropes around that it's possible to make light of an eye patch. Nevertheless, or maybe BECAUSE of my not being offended, I liked the "reconciliation" appearance. Crenshaw decided to have a sense of humor about it, and SNL decided for once in their life to take the high road and apologize instead of doing what they did with Armisen's truly offensive mocking of Governor Patterson (who was blind) or the times they've mocked other disabled people on the show by using them as freaks and fictional caricatures. And it was funny. The apology scene was funny-- good natured ribbing vs outrage and repentance melodrama. It sounded to me like every time they announced Lil Wayne, they laboriously pronounced it "Little" -- both during the credit intro and also right before each song. I am not the hippest person on the block, but that seemed odd to me. teddysmom November 12, 2018 Share November 12, 2018 I have a huge crush on Liev Schrieber, I used to watch Ray Donovan, but he was SOO good in "Spotlight". He was in that Larry David movie on HBO, "Clear History" and played a Chechen thug with a pony tail and those god awful sweaters they always have Russian and Chechen men wearing, it's almost become cliche. Anyway he was Hilarious. Very droll. I just think he's adorable. I had forgotten about the Golden Globes skit. And I KNEW when they did the paranormal skit the whole point would be Kate trying to get him to break. Look at you, 27 and still turning heads. But it really looked like Pete wasn't expecting that. I think there's always a little improvisation with Pete Davidson...and it didn't appear that Colin Jost was completely prepared for the "porn" joke. Looked like it may have been discussed...but not a 100% "go." 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/75618-s44e05-liev-schreiber-lil-wayne/page/2/#findComment-4829074

I think Pete needs/takes MORE than an anti-depressant...and probably has a therapist (as part of his SNL contract). Also, his life, attitude, and comedy have changed a lot since he stopped taking "recreational" drugs. I consider him very young, talented, and usually give him the benefit of the doubt. He's a sad/offbeat guy. He's not featured that much on SNL. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/75618-s44e05-liev-schreiber-lil-wayne/page/2/#findComment-4829102

possibilities November 12, 2018 Share November 12, 2018 (edited) Where did you hear Paterson liked it? I'm curious about that. This is what I know about his reaction: https://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/15/nyregion/15skit.html This is an excerpt from the article: Gov. David A. Paterson’s office criticized a skit on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” in which Mr. Paterson, who is legally blind, was portrayed as disoriented and buffoonlike. The governor’s communications director, Risa B. Heller, said on Sunday that the skit amounted to nothing more than cheap ridicule — a surprisingly strong reaction considering that the governor is well known for making light of his vision problems. “The governor engages in humor all the time, and he can certainly take a joke,” Ms. Heller said in a statement. “However, this particular ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit unfortunately chose to ridicule people with physical disabilities and imply that disabled people are incapable of having jobs with serious responsibilities. HaaCHOO November 12, 2018 Share November 12, 2018 I didn't remember anything but his appearance on SNL, so I had to look it up. I think you're correct for the most part, but then there's this: "Working in Albany is a lot like watching Saturday Night Live," he said. "You watch it, it's funny for 10 minutes and then you just want it to go away." Armisen has portrayed Paterson on "SNL" as a lost blind man who wanders in front of the camera aimlessly and even holds up charts upside down in the middle of presentations. Meyers and Poehler apologized for making fun of him, to which Paterson replied: "That's okay. You made so much fun of me for being blind, I forgot I was black." Gov. David Paterson, who showed his sense of humor on Saturday Night Live. At the end of the skit, the governor and Armisen jokingly wandered in the middle of the set, in front of Amy Poehler who pretended to be doing a serious story. And, I know they had a similar bit with the awkwardly incorrect captions but I'm drawing a blank on the details. lou ann b November 13, 2018 Share November 13, 2018 (edited) Bear with me, haven't been on here in a while: . Cold Open: Great for the most part. Funny how DeNiro was such a terrible host but he can manage to do okay with small bits like this. Mikey and Alex are continuing to be the MVP's every week. I actually said "yay" when I saw them. Kinda over Kate now... Monologue:I've always liked Liev as an actor, but often I'm disappointed with 'actors" hosting(see DeNiro) but I really enjoyed him here and throughout the show.He was throughly committed and it showed. Incest Twins:Once again:Mikey and Alex are stars. Silly idea and I like silly ideas. I LOL'd several times. Unity:I usually don't like the non live bits but this was really good. Liev looked nice in the captain's hat. Ghost Encounters, part 50, As stated, kinda over Kate now, but she certainly works this character. Liev gets props for not losing it. Booty Kings:again, not fond of the video stuff usually, but this was fun, and Chris Redd never fails.. he's impressed me from the moment he joined SNL. WU:I guess I'm older now;because I've come to believe that comedy can some times cross a line and it's okay. Yes, Pete can be kind of "a dick" in his words.Taking into account the rapidly changing hair color(white, now blue) and the whole Ariana thing(which I lost interest in the moment I heard about it), I think he has the potential to become someone with a decent comedy career.I mean, I can't stand Adam Sandler, and just look....But I watched Pete Saturday night and I can't help but like him. I don't know what it is, but I just like the guy. And as someone else mentioned, the look on his face at the mention of his Dad......tough to see. The Poddys: Didn't know I needed this..but I liked it. Remember when podcasts were new and unusual? House Hunters:Sketch of the night. Liev and Leslie were really good together. New Neighbors: Again, love silly stuff, love Beck and Kyle has grown on me. Women's Bathroom: LIev was just right for this kind of weird little bit. Overall, I thought it was 90 percent successful. I did like the second half much more than the first half, where almost everything felt like a weaker imitation of something they've already done. I mean, after that monologue, I totally get why they kept Liev to the straightman supporting parts for most of the show. I did think he loosened up in the last half hour, and he genuinely sold the bathroom bit. Speaking of the monologue, I'm convinced he was trying to wing parts of it. Liev tried to act more than just blatantly reading the cue cards, so I appreciated that. I did like the Cold Open. If that was Kate's Sessions' goodbye, it was a good one to go out on. I loved when Sessions started singing "Someone Like You." The Alien/ghost sketch has worked exactly once. I think the point tonight was indeed to get Liev to break and show a little bit of personality. I'm sorry, but I thought Pete's segment tonight was HELLA AWKWARD. It just had me cringing. I'm not sure why the guy actually had to be there. There are always going to be people who take offense. Case in point: Countdown to more angry tweets from Ariana that they are still bringing her up and using her music. And Pete will be on next week to apologize to her...again. It's a vicious cycle. I like House Hunters. I've seen a lot of these types of shows. My dad records them religiously. And I totally laughed out loud when Liev broke the hose out inside the house. I didn't think that one was ever going to end. Didn't love the show, but good for Liev trying something outside his comfort zone. Looking forward to Steve Carell. I liked the Booty Kings sketch, although it did go on too long, and thought the one with the hose was not funny at all, but otherwise I pretty much agree. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/75618-s44e05-liev-schreiber-lil-wayne/page/2/#findComment-4831765

Princess Sparkle November 15, 2018 Share November 15, 2018 I have to admit, the House Hunter sketch reminded me of John Mulaney's (better) standup bit about HGTV and realtors. To the point where it made me wonder if he pitched a bit when he hosted last season, and it was a leftover sketch idea that didn't get used. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/75618-s44e05-liev-schreiber-lil-wayne/page/2/#findComment-4836534
Hanahope November 16, 2018 Share November 16, 2018 I chuckled at parts of every sketch, so overall, a good episode. Personally, I liked the small parody of the Pod Save America guys on the Poddys. I now know what ASMR means. Kate's alien abduction/ghost story character is just the same every time, but she does such a good job with it, I still laugh. I though Liev did a great job with his parts in the sketches. new neighbors reminds me of why I'm glad I had girls. Yup, they have their issues, but I don't need to hose them down. So Crenshaw, who's being a snowflake now? 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/75618-s44e05-liev-schreiber-lil-wayne/page/2/#findComment-4844932
Jody January 6, 2019 Share January 6, 2019 Hello Mystery. I Think They Could Have Cut The Incest Brothers Back A Little Bit And Then Brought In The Sister And Then The Grand Mother. I Thought The Boys Fighting Was Not Odd Except For Having The Hose Being Sprayed In The House . I Would Think The Furniture Would Get All Wet ! Apparently Aidy Also Thought That I Would Presume ! I Thought The Odd Sketch Was The House Hunters ! IT Just Kept Getting More and More Ridiculous ! I Did Like Them Locking Pete In The House Though !
