S05.E04: Tropic of Cancer

The battleship could only have come from one place:  SPECTRE!  Luckily, like Deputy Fife, she only had one bullet (missile).

The firefight was right in line with the impossibility of it all.  My favorite moment was when dirty face was firing directly at a target about 15 yards in front of her.  He completely missed her, she completely missed him.  And, as always, zero grenades.

The Navy Lt. who was snookered deserved to die.  Not for getting fooled.  But, for failing to grasp that she was dealing with a spy.  She was utterly clueless as to the consequences of her lover realizing she was discovered?  She would not attack her?  Run?  Laughable.

Chandler's "visions" are supposed to add mystical depth.  Maybe next time he can just get a corpsman to whip up a potion.  Mirror, Mirror in the head.  Who is next, to be dead?

Wolf got shot in the leg (or was he hit by shrapnel?) and was apparently losing blood but they managed to keep him out of sight of Tavo's men without trace of blood in the hospital's floor and bed.

What the heck are Vulture Team carrying in their backpacks that they can't fit a couple of grenades in them?

Someone finally stood up to Chandler and refused to follow his commands. It only took them 5 seasons.

Was Granderson's death was supposed to be emotional because what she did was so foolish that it just lost whatever emotional impact the writers were going for. So she suspects her girlfriend has something to do with the virus that wiped out their systems and enabled the enemy to kill a number of people and she just barges in there without backup at all.

I thought Granderson had Kelsie figured out when she was sitting in her car going through the flashbacks. Did she lose her senses during the drive to her house?

Now it's all up to the super kid Clay to crack all this and avenge Granderson.

Gustavo's second in command is making him look stupid. He'll be looking to take over soon.

Cuba turned in the middle of battle? I guess the writers are wrestling fans!

Danny has some serious strength to roll and pick up Wolf with ease.

BWAH! That's why they can't carry any grenades, huh?

Noticed in the last 15 minutes. At 9:45, full set of commercials followed by only 1:58 minutes of show (recovering from the shell) followed by another set of commercials. Did anyone notice if this is normal for this show?

During the confrontation at the end between the two women, the camera was shaking so much I had to look away. Please go buy a tripod.

I agree that Granderson was foolish to go home alone. She should have went back into that command center and fessed up to what she suspected.  Girlfriend/wife didn’t know she was suspected so a half hour delay in catching her wouldn’t have hurt.

i agree on all points with the comments about the team on the ground.

I must not be paying close enough attention because I’m totally missing Toms’ ‘visions’.

I think Tavo can’t strategize his way out of a paper bag, has a huge ego and is mentally unstable. Hector seems to be trying to win the war in spite of Tavo. Tavo’s wife seems to be manipulating Tavo- must be delusions of grandeur. Hector seems to realize this. I don’t think he’s having an affair with her.

That was a pretty cool move by Danny Green.

Turns out Granderson's needy girlfriend was working for the enemy.  Who could have guessed that ?  </sarcasm>
So was Kelsie just some sort of anarchist that threw in with Gustavo, or is she actually from Gran Columbia ?   How long were Kelsie and Granderson dating/living together ?  Because Kelsie indicated she had been working for Gustavo since BEFORE they met.  That also means Kelsie was playing a long con, while Tavo seems to be making this up as he goes along with no real plan outside of 'join us or we'll kill you'.

How did Gran Columbia manage to find an Iowa-class battleship ?  For starters, it's American ship, there's only 4 of them in existence and they are all museum pieces based in locations in the US.  Did they just steal it ?  Secondly, where did they find the parts to get it up and running, and make new shells for the main guns ?

So, Gran Columbia has its own satellites now ?  That are parked in close orbital proximity to American military satellites.  How did that happen exactly ?  More tips from the tarot cards that told them how to build a satellite, launch it and park it in orbit ??

The CGI missile impact on the port side of the NJ looked so fake.

Oh no, not Wolf !!!  I thought Wolf would be tough enough to sew up his own leg wound a la John Rambo.

Sasha was back to looking clean and stylish this episode.  The makeup and mirrors are paying off.

Shouldn't the security card system be separate from the super-secure military networks ?  Looks like whoever rebuilt the US military networks post-plague kind of took a few short-cuts.

Steven Seagal sold out, obviously, although I would favor a reappearance of our favorite submarine captain.

I am waiting for the crew of the Nathan James to throw the cardboard cutout of Chandler overboard, so that Tavo's henchman can come running into the room, calling out "We got him, Tavo!  Our people saw him floating face up in the ocean!"

I assume that whatever battleship is out there is firing 25" shells at the Nathan James.  I would expect a hit to do more damage than that.

With all the relaying of commands on the bridge, I am continually recalling Spaceballs, where Dark Helmet screams "Stop preparing!  You're always preparing to do something.  Just do it!"

You have to wonder what Granderson's plan was.  Hasn't she ever watched tv to know that "You have to come to HQ with me to explain why you sent a bug to infect the entire command structure of the US military, crippling our defense and costing thousands of lives" just isn't a very persuasive argument.  Instead, she relies on "but I thought you loved me".  Stick a knife in her, she's done.

It was! Also, he had the presence to pick up his rifle with Wolf on his back. What can't this man do?!!

Looking at Chandler's face, I was waiting for the moment he angrily screamed Kahn I mean Gustavo a few times on the bridge.

Everything was connected to the system, fighter planes could not even take off because that is how the Colonial Fleet was set up in the Battlestar Galactica miniseries. Only now Baltar/Granderson died instead of trying to hide that she got honey trapped by 6 into introducing the virus worms into the totally integrated system

This was ridiculous! Yet somehow I still enjoy this show so I just watch with my logic turned off and take my entertainment where I can get it. Tavo is so cookie cutter he should have frosting. I want to know what setting spray Sasha uses because that is some holy grail stuff.

Finally, the best moment of the show was the hotness of hot Wolf being rolled legs up onto hot Danny’s back. Did that sound dirty? “I didn’t mean for it to,” she lied unconvincingly. My usual disclaimer: I’m an unabashed Wolf fan girl so his moments are usually my best moments.

Welp, we can all take tremendous satisfaction in the knowledge that we all called it with respect to the treasonous little bitch-girlfriend. Wonder if she'll pop up again somewhere along the line so that our side can play a little catch-up on her narrow little arse.  And how is it that she was able to overpower Granderson, who outweighs her by a not-insignificant amount and who has likely had self-defense training as a Navy officer? (Am I right or wrong about that one, guys?)

They are a rather resourceful batch of insurgents, aren't they? And pretty damn lucky to boot. Nevertheless, I think it would've taken the Starship Enterprise to pull off a heist of that magnitude. And where the frick did they find qualified people to operate the thing? Someone on another site wrote that it takes roughly 2,000 people to keep one of those big bitches afloat, so it does beg the question...

Well, sci-fi-induced sedition notwithstanding, is it just me or does anyone else think that Tavo's Number Two Guy is smoking hot? Almost "Wolf-ish" in his own way, eh, Ramble?

And, finally...

Ha! Exactly. I think this show does an admirable job of serving up the hotness. The pretty and the military porn are two big pluses for me.

I swear, Danny's Pablo has gotten more post-mortem poetic waxing and recognition compared to some of the regulars who have actually died on this show.  At this rate, there's going to be a Pablo statue resurrected in his memory when it is all said and done.

But speaking of deaths, damn, Granderson got one of the dumbest deaths possible.  I guess they're were suppose to be showing that she was too emotional and hurt over her "wife's" betrayal to think straight, but even if she was hoping for the best, she really didn't have any back-up going in?  Pretty pathetic death, really.  And her evil spy wife is now out in the wind, but I'm sure she'll be back.  I wonder who will get the honor of "avenging" poor, suddenly dumb Granderson.

So, like any good middle episode in the season, Nathan James starts out doing well and takes out two of Tavo's ships, only for Cuba to betray them, and now Nathan James is limping back.  As I've learn in pretty much every show known to mankind, never trust Cuba!

I'm guessing the Danny/Sasha/Wolf/Kandie gang will be meeting back up with everyone else, at least.  Normally I would say Wolf would be down for a bit, but since it is Wolf, he'll probably shake off his new leg wound by the end of the next episode.

Best part was Foster standing up to Chandler and preventing him from getting Nathan Janes blown up and everyone in it killed.  Followed by Danny's impressive "roll and pick up Wolf" bit.

That was fun, I might have rewound it :)  Then Wolf has the presence of mind to shoot someone while hanging off of Green's back.

Yes, Granderson was not smart but I'm sorry to lose her and her neatly swiped bangs.  Now it's all up to Whiz Kid!!

As much as I like ramrod Tom Chandler, I'm enjoying the adventures of the ground team more than the ship team.
