For a network head speaking about a potential new show on his own network, that is about the most lukewarm sound-bite I've ever heard. It borders on damning with faint praise, IMO.

Yes, I read the entire comment, but IMO his comments about the show were perfunctory, at best. I guess I just wasn't won over by his, "I like it, but... ." His most glowing comments were about the two actresses.

In this case, I don't think the "but" is negating his "I like it". I think it's him saying that just because he likes it, that doesn't mean it will get sent to series without the ratings to support it. That's how I took all that. YMMV

I don't know, I read it as, "I like it, but it needs work and I'm not confident fandom will like it,,,but hey, Briana is hilarious and Katheryn is a star...so it's not all bad." Regardless of his likes or dislikes, to me, he doesn't sound like he thinks it's going to be successful. Which, again, to me, doesn't bode well for the show.

This is the impression I had as well.   That's how I describe something I thought was okay, but nothing great.

It's funny how we all interpret so much about this show, even comments by the CW president, so differently LOL.

IMO, if he really didn't like it  he could have made no comment on whether he likes it or not and just said, "Everyone has worked really hard to bring this to air, but it all comes down to the viewers and whether they will watch or not". 

 As to the "nothing is perfect" comment, well it's true and even the mothership has been far less than perfect. I think he's saying, it needs some work, but the characters and the premise work.  he's well aware that a lot of fans  won't watch without Sam and Dean, so he's putting it out there that if fan response is negative, it might not make it to series.

But you know I'm not in the industry and maybe I'm just being naive, but I think he's more positive than negative on it.

SPN is coming back to PaleyFest! I don't know how to feel about it - is it to promote the possible spin-off, or because the end is nigh? They have had so much mainstream publicity this year!

You're quick--I just saw this.  No this is very cool--first time they are there since 2011, other time was 2006.   So we'll get a panel--none of the shows have announced their panelists yet.   Indications this is about the guys and the mothership and not the spinoff.   As to the ending Pedowitz says it's still up to the boys and I don't see them calling it quits quite next year.  Think this is just a nice spotlight for SPN with no ulterior motives.  Should be great.

One thing I read that had me really wondering if s14 is going to be the end of the road. There was a comment Jared made in that interview above at the very end that I would not have noticed if not for this article from Collider about the spinoff which is the same interview as noted in the TV Line article.

Don't see that Jared quote meaning he's set to quit next year.   Paleyfest is about Supernatural not Wayward Sisters.   The J's will quit eventually but a spot on Paleyfest is not any rational indicator imo.  We will see March 20 when the guys will be there and NOT announce the show is ending.

Actually Jared has said this.  He has talked about his wish someday to just be a husband and father, maybe just doing a guest spot now and then. I don't have time to try and find which panel it was but I think he has spoken about it a few times. So not a big surprise.

It's not Wayward Girls. It's Wayward Sisters.

I never said that Jared's words were anything more than a possible marker to the coming end of the show. I'm saying that the CW hasn't given SPN this kind of attention in years. They had the big Comic Con thing with Kansas, the covers of EW, a Paleyfest appearance when they haven't had one in 7 years which happens to come when they are on the cusp of a possible spinoff and the coming 300th in s14. There is no reason to think the Paleyfest appearance won't include discussions of the spinoff. I guess we'll see who shows up for it. I'm banking on J2M, Alex,  Kim, Briana, Kathryn (if shes available). Maybe Jim Beaver, Sam Smith. Hell, I'm going to throw out that JDM shows up as well, just for the yucks.  And truly, they could announce tomorrow that s13 will be it if the boys want to stop.

Respectfully, it really is rational speculation unless you have some insider knowledge you can share.

Yes I mistyped the title--and my point is that is all it is speculation based on not much...merely going to Paleyfest doesn't tell us anything either way.  Same with Jared's comment which variations have been around said by Jared--doesn't tell us much about season 14 and when the series ends.

No one said it wasn't speculation but I disagree that speculation is not rational. That's the part of your comment I take issue with.  Media outlets are speculating on when the show will end. I understand no one wants to think about the show ending but the speculation is rational given the givens.

Yeah I don't really get that change myself.  I think it must be because the spinoff will focus on the younger women in the group vs the mother daughter dynamics. I was disappointed with that change too

I alway felt that they couldn't name it Wayward Daughters for legal reasons since fans are the ones that named its that and started asking for it.

Like I said in my prior post, it's all of it taken together not specifically Paleyfest in and of itself. This is the biggest PR push this show has had since the 200th PR stuff and that didn't get them a Paleyfest spot. Maybe the show is just finally getting some respect around the CW and maybe Holly Ollis is better at PR for the show than Chico. We'll see. None of us know for sure.

From my understanding writers and show runners have to be extremely careful with how ideas from fans are used.  It has to look like it was the sole idea of the show runner/executives or they could be opening themselves up to potential lawsuits.     If they named it Wayward Daughters, they could be opening themselves up for a lawsuit from someone claiming Wayward Daughters was their idea. 

The show needs to make it look like it was all entirely there idea without fan involvement. 

*I am not claiming insider knowledge and acknowledge I could be totally off base, but from the the few articles I read this is the impression I was left with.

Jared - that sounds better than when it should end.

Jensen - let's go with the future of the show. Now that's just what he and I would like to see. We still have to convince the powers to be to make that happen.

my takeaway from all that combined with Jared saying to the media, which Is new, he doesn t want to act his whole life is that they are going to run no longer than 15 but I think it's going to be 14 at 300. it's obvious had and Jensen have to agree on the end date unless they agree that one stays and the other leaves and that seems, unlikely.

But again I'm just taking all of it together at this pint and seeing it as prepping for the end. YMMV agree to disagree

Aside from the fact I personally don’t believe the show would survive either J leaving, havent they explicitly stated on several occasions they have agreed to leave the show together?

Yes, they have said repeatedly they are a package deal - stay or leave. But in Minneapolis they admitted they had recently decided WHEN that would be. Combine that with Jared saying he didn't see past 300 and Jared's kids starting school that's why I think they are trying to work out a shortened season 13 with possibly a miniseries or feature film later.

They have. But things can change. Jared says he doesn't want to act in a series again. Jensen doesn't say that. I think he wants to do other things. Jensen is a craftsman about his work in TV. I think he wants to stay working in TV. Jensen has said he would happily direct Wayward eps if that gets picked up. And I also think they both feel a responsibility to the crew. To make sure they have jobs.

So I really wonder if now the end of SPN depends on whether Wayward gets a green light. Like if it gets picked up then they can end SPN sooner.

My sense has always been that Jared was never really thinking of acting long-term. They did a commentary for an episode back in the first season that kinda made me think Jared liked acting, if it was the right project, but didn't really care for the process or the Hollywood mentality needed to climb the ladder and make a real career out of it.

I don't think Wayward will have much bearing on when Supernatural ends. I mean, they could get picked up for series and cancelled after five episodes have aired. There's never any guarantee in this business, so I'd think they'd be thinking of ending Supernatural when they're ready to end it, regardless of what happens with Wayward. Plus, it sounds like they aren't going to be filming Wayward in Vancouver so keeping the crew employed won't be a factor anyway.

Plus, it sounds like they aren't going to be filming Wayward in Vancouver so keeping the crew employed won't be a factor anyway.

The crew could go to L.A. or at least some of them.

I think most of the regular crew is based out of Vancouver, so I would expect them to find other work in Vancouver. They're going to have to staff both shows independently to start off and I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the crew be courted for Wayward to help the show get up and running smoothly, but I would expect a mostly new crew for Wayward. It's the nature of the business they work in, so I expect the Supernatural crew to be prepared to look for other jobs when Supernatural ends. Most of their jobs would not have the longevity Supernatural has already provided them with.

Dean's a year younger than Jensen, isn't he?  Anyway, he's gorgeous, so I think he'll survive.  40 is the new 20, after all!
