Well, here's the summary for the season:

Now in its third season, the critically-acclaimed drama “The Fosters” picks up during summer, a few weeks after the cliffhanger finale left off, as the family deals with the aftermath of the terrible car accident involving Mariana, Jesus and their pregnant biological mother Ana. Now that Callie is back at the Adams Foster's home, she is feeling secure for the first time in a long time and determined to have a summer of free-spirited fun, including trying her best to get over Brandon. Meanwhile, Brandon is going to Idyllwild Music Program where he will be faced with serious competition. Jude and Connor continue to develop their relationship and what it means to be a young teen exploring new love. Stef and Lena continue to face challenges as a couple and as parents, yet are determined to fight through them together. “The Fosters” will premiere on Monday, June 8th at 8:00 – 9:00 PM ET/PT.

It also seems that Jesus doesn't die, so that's not a bad thing. But, at the same time, if Jake isn't a series regular, why in the world would Stef and Lena still let Jesus go to boarding school? I like these two, but they're overprotective and this is one reason for them not to let him go. But whatever, I guess he does, indeed, go. I mean, unless they decide to just put Jesus in a coma until the actor comes back. And I guess Mariana's probably really injured, but I don't think anyone's dead, besides the driver from the other car.

That promo is trying super-hard to make us believe Jesus is dead, but I'm still doubtful. The death of a child is a huge, devastating, crippling event for a family. If it's dealt with honestly, Jesus' death would change the whole tenor of the show, in a way his absence (if he went to boarding school) would not. Much, if not most, of the season would have to be devoted to grief and mourning, Totally depressing, and I think it would a millstone around the show's neck.

On this show? Stef will find out about Lena and the principal, Callie will make out with Brandon at the funeral after finding out about a new snag in her adoption, Marianna will have to deal with new dance drama, someone from Girls United will make a self destructive decision, Mike will start drinking again, and they'll all be busy dealing with other issues after one or two episodes of mourning.

Well, now we know that Mariana isn't paralyzed or anything. The family seems to be too calm for Jesus to be dead, but I don't see how Jesus could be at the boarding school when it's summer.

I agree about everyone being too casual for one of their family members being dead.

And as far as it being the summer, they can always say Jesus needs to attend summer school (which would be in character for him) or that the boarding school is running some optional summer athletic program in preparation for its fall sports program (or something like that).

So apparently there's an episode description up for episode 10 that says something along the lines of a tragic event happens that affects the Adams Fosters and Connor. Also, there were photos of Hayden (Jude) and Gavin's (Connor) body doubles for that episode.

Teri Polo is the WORST, and most unbelieveable actress on the face of the planet. Seriously. She ruins the show. I've suffered through her for a couple of seasons and I'm done. This wold be a decent show without her.

Episode description for 03x08 - Daughters (8/3):

Callie views Rita differently after meeting Rita's daughter, who has an uneasy bond with her mom. Elsewhere, Stef uncovers a new lead in the hit-and-run accident; and Brandon talks to his mothers about the tension he's sensing in their home.

03x09 - Idyllwild (8/10):

The family heads to Idyllwild for Brandon’s music competition where long-held feelings are revealed and life-changing secrets are unveiled.

and 03x10 - Lucky (midseason finale, 8/17):

Amid tensions in their own relationship, Stef and Lena host a 40th anniversary party for Lena’s parents.

ETA what Bradley Bredweg (Co-creator/executive producer) said on Periscope about the midseason finale:

I think what we have done with this finale kind of really beautifully tied up a lot of story. I’ve been living with the show for three seasons and I don’t think I’ve been so emotional after a screening since I Do or Mother but I think I’m so moved and excited and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. I will say there is some good Brallie in the finale yes. Jonnor is in the finale. You will need at least one box of tissues. Be prepared. Honestly I’m going to say the last two episodes of this season are my favorite Brallie episodes. It is one of my favorite Stef and Lena episodes as as well. Yes something big is happening with Stef and Lena and I think all of you are going to love this episode. There are many cliffhangers actually. Don’t believe everything you read. Stick with the show. My favorite Brallie scene is in the finale.

I can handle a Stef/Lena separation, but not a divorce.

I can't handle any more Brallie especially if they blow up Callie's adoption so that Callie and Brandon can rekindle their supposedly epic love story.

I really hope that the show ends up with Callie being adopted. At this point, they're better off waiting until she turns 18.

Either AJ or his brother caused the hit & run accident. That's my theory/guess.

My initial thought was that they're going to have the brother be the driver.  But now I'm thinking it would be more interesting for the surveillance video to show AJ or his brother, and have one of them be a suspect, when they weren't involved at all and were just rushed to judgment, so to speak.

Major spoiler for 03x09, saw it on the IMDB boards:

Brandon cheats during his Idyllwild presentation to get into Disney Hall:

Once again he gets what he wants by *beep* cheating! He uses a backing track during his composition performance and instead of getting disqualified he's praised to the hilt and ends up winning the competition. Even though he actually stops for a few seconds while the track plays!!! WTF? Only in Fosters world is using Backing tracks and digital dancers in a music competition considered acceptable. I know in Season 3B why not have Callie be involved in a singing competition and use Auto-Tune and backing tracks as well? No wonder most "live" music sucks since people don't even have to perform in competitions. As a former band geek and pianist (not as good as Brandon supposedly is) who had many recitals, this kind of stuff just pisses me off. How do you get to Disney Hall? You *beep* cheat... That's a great message to send.

Link to comment

How can Brandon cheat by using a backing track? He's a composer. It's the composition he's judged on, how would a backing track help?

Well, I wouldn't have thought a digital backup dancer would help win a dance competition either, or even be allowed, unless it was really a multimedia competition. I guess if Mariana can win at dance by doing programming instead of dancing, Brandon can win at composing by using a background beat.

I may have spewed a little watching the Callie/Brandon sneek peek. 'They'll be upset they can't adopt you" = gross. I hate this storyline and it was NOT even a LITTLE bit hot. The fact every other single person on the show has not been at all supportive says A LOT. (Even the other liars on PLL said they thought Aria/Ezra was hot - that is wasn't is not the issue). I wish this could still be a dream/nightmare of someone. I really do.

Interview with Maia about the finale. I interpret it as her saying that she will be in the family through her relationship with Brandon - which makes me want to puke. Interesting that she didn't say anything about her relationship with Jude. She also didn't say what would happen to her new family if the "true love" with Brandon falls apart. UGH

@LisaM

I wonder if the bomb that the Hollywood Reporter mentions is that Stef does have breast cancer. That would account for her mother coming to visit - and sticking around.

Complete speculation based on Hollywood Reporter article linked above.

It has to be. I'm sad about this, but when I thought of 3B storylines after 03x09, this was one of the first things that came to mind.

There's no way she's going to die (she might come close), but I'm already so emotionally invested in Stef as a character. Callie has formed such a strong bond with her (and S & L just became her legal moms) that it's going to be hard for her (and everyone else, obviously) to see her weak and sick.

Teri Polo is going to kill it, knock it out of the park.

It also looks like Callie's adoption is going to stick, which I'm happy about. It's not the way I wanted it to happen, but that's TV (and life).

I hope the upcoming bomb that's dropped is not that Stef has breast cancer.  It would be terrible if she had lied outright to Lena about what was said on the phone call she took in the garage. I could not swallow Stef doing that, not believable.  It would be just as terrible for there to have been a mix-up with the mammogram that was being looked at.  So maybe she doesn't have breast cancer, but something else medically dire, or maybe even it is Lena with the problem.  But then Stef's mother staying on doesn't make quite as much sense.

Link to comment

I couldn't see Stef lying to Lena about the contents of the phone call - nor would she be so upbeat and happy throughout the rest of the party and in the house if that was the case. If indeed it is a breast cancer storyline, I could see the doctor ordering a sonogram just to be safe and that test showing a further issue. We've already had Shot Stef with a huge medical problem so perhaps it is not medical at all. Perhaps the bomb is completely non-medical - i.e. Stef wants to become a detective and Sharon sticks around to help because Stef is pulling ridiculously long hours. OTOH, the connotation of the word "bomb" is usually negative so I'm still betting on a health scare.

I agree with you. I think though, that the doctor might have made a mistake and we will see later that Stef is told it was either a false negative or a mixed up result. I can't see any other reason why they would have jammed it into the finale. And also, I don't think Stef would lie about that kind of a thing. Stef withholds things but isn't an out-an-out liar to Lena. I also don't think Stef becoming a detective would result in her mother hanging around - and there hasn't been any reason to believe she was going for a promotion. I am wary of the storyline because it will result in her living (unless Teri Polo wants to leave the show) but between her and Sherri Saum it will at least be well acted.

And it has to be Stef with cancer because Lena had the late-term miscarriage (in show terms, that means the other is up for the next health issue). Unless I guess Stef's mum has cancer? But unlikely (even though Annie Potts is awesome)

Link to comment

I know logic and reality get skipped over a lot on t.v., but we saw Stef's name onscreen at the bottom left of the image when she had the second mammo.  I'm thinking  it is something other than breast cancer, or something job-related but more along the lines of she gets investigated for some sort of misconduct.  It's a stretch, but I'm not up for the breast cancer storyline.

The Fosters - Episode 3.11 - First Impressions - Press Release

As the third season of “The Fosters” continues, former foster teen Callie is now officially adopted into the Adams Foster family. She must put aside any romantic feelings for Brandon and does so by throwing herself into her “Fost and Found” website, even drawing the interest of an investor (guest star Kelli Williams, “Detective McLean: Ties That Bind,” “Army Wives”).

After his performance at Disney Hall, Brandon is approached by a recruiter from Juilliard. Mariana launches her campaign to run for junior class president while Jesus tries to hide the reason why he doesn’t want to go back to wrestling school. When Mike discovers a secret his foster son, AJ (guest star Tom Williamson, “The Goldbergs”), is keeping, he is torn about what to do with the information. Jude must face the fact that his boyfriend has decided to move away, and a serious medical issue for Stef results in a clash of opinion between her wife, Lena, and her mother, Sharon (guest star Annie Potts, “Ghostbusters”).

Meanwhile, Sharon introduces the family to her liberal-minded friend, Will (guest star Rob Morrow, “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll,” upcoming “American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson”).

“First Impressions” was written by Bradley Bredeweg & Peter Paige and directed by Peter Paige.
