nicepebbles August 17, 2017 Share August 17, 2017 I like that she kept some of the people from the web series. Either they've all got some acting classes or they were kinds terrible on the webs series on purpose. The fact that the low talking dude is a Blood cracks me up every time I see him on screen. Darian August 28, 2017 Share August 28, 2017 Ridiculously excited about this (and haven't even read the book yet, though it's on my to-read list): Issa Rae will make her film debut in upcoming drama ‘The Hate U Give’ Quote The star and creator of the hit HBO comedy will reportedly make her big-screen debut opposite Amandla Stenberg in the upcoming drama The Hate U Give. DearEvette May 17, 2020 Share May 17, 2020 Huh. I was today years old when I learned the actor who plays Dro (Sarunas Jackson) had a daughter with the actress who played Tasha (DomiNque Jackson). But he had a girlfriend who had no idea he had a kid until he announced it on his Insta when she was born. Dude really is a Dro, I guess. 1 Link to comment
scrb May 30, 2020 Share May 30, 2020 Haven't seen any of Issa's movies. I think she's mostly been in supporting roles? Heard a discussion of Lovebirds, which wasn't too kind. Guess the reviews haven't been great, says no chemistry between the leads. I like Kumail too. But they said the lead characters go on The Amazing Race, to try to rekindle their relationship. That might be fun. Sounded like it was originally suppose to be a theatric release but pandemic put them direct to Netflix. 1 Link to comment

Sounded like it was originally suppose to be a theatric release but pandemic put them direct to Netflix. She's starred in her last couple movies. Lovebirds was a great comedy, thanks largely in part to the chemistry between Kumail and Issa. And they didn't go on The Amazing Race to rekindle their relationship, so I don't think that person actually watched it. You should check it out. The Photograph was an amazing romance (finally a movie that shows black people can have a love life and a storyline that doesn't spring from the trauma of slavery and oppression....but that's a discussion for another time) and Little was hilarious, but definitely more for the tweens than adults. 2 Link to comment

DearEvette June 8, 2020 Share June 8, 2020 There's always the Back Lady Sketch show where every one of them has been on in various sketches. I especially like Issa as the gang-banger who gets assigned to the shady corner. 3 1 Link to comment

I've watched "Black Lady Courtroom" like 900 times (Issa is in that one). I watched Yvonne Orji's special and I agree, it was OK. Some of her jokes were kind of predictable (she's Nigerian so she did a joke about those Nigerian prince scam emails), but I like her energy. I also liked the scenes with her in Nigeria. 3 Link to comment

Amanda Seales special is great....I'm not all the way through, but so far it's been great. I've laughed out loud more than a few times, the subject matter is topical and relevant, it's not stale subject matter, her impressions are on point and her timing is excellent. Like I said, I think Yvonne's special was good, however Amanda's is legitimately great. I'd give it a 8.75 out of 10...maybe a 9 by the time it's over. I wouldn't have even known it existed had you not mentioned it and that's a damn shame because I think HBO really really advertised Yvonne's special and I didn't even know this existed. 4 Link to comment

DearEvette June 17, 2020 Share June 17, 2020 Natasha Rothwell has reprised her role from the movie Love, Simon where she was a drama teacher (I recommend the entire movie, it was great and NR was pretty great in it as well) in the new Hulu series sequel of a sort, Love, Victor. In this one she's been promoted from drama teacher to Vice Principal. 1 Link to comment

Based on what I've seen and heard, that was it and it was more of an issue with the publicist than it was with the cast. Plus I feel since she's super vocal about everything and sugar coats none of it, people often assume that she's in the middle of drama with everyone. (For instance, when it was recently learned that she was leaving The Real, lots of people started saying it was because she had issues with the other ladies, when her big issue was with The Real fans who didn't like that the show started talking more frequently and seriously about about race, injustice, etc. and they blamed her.) 1 Link to comment

ElectricBoogaloo June 11, 2021 Share June 11, 2021 Jaboukie Young-White, Issa Rae Team for ‘Gang’s All Queer’ Series at HBO Quote Jaboukie Young-White is set to develop the book “The Gang’s All Queer: The Lives of Gay Gang Members” by Vanessa R. In the half-hour series, a closeted twenty-something in Chicago, grieving a gang-related death, ditches college to find reckless closure. Young-White will write and executive produce the project. Rae will executive produce under her Hoorae banner along with Montrel McKay. Rae is currently filming the fifth and final season of the hit HBO comedy “Insecure,” which she stars in and co-created. Rae is also currently an executive producer on Robin Thede’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show” at HBO, with the second season of that series having debuted in April. It has already been renewed for a third. Upcoming television projects for Rae include the docuseries “Seen & Heard” and the backyard wrestling drama “Tre Cnt” at HBO, as well as the hip hop comedy “Rap Sh*t” at HBO Max. On the film side, Hoorae label has a “Set It Off” remake in the works at New Line. Link to comment
