I think Malevo would have been a contender for the win IF--as in their very first performance--people had been allowed to hear their drums and whip cracks and boot tap/stomps and those bolo things whooshing around and smacking the floor.

The show turned their whole act into "Argentine Beefcake."

I'm still a little bit annoyed about it.

My reasons...

Tape Face is a niche act.  He hasn't been as funny as the first time.  Unlikely that he will win after being in the runoff last time.

Jon is a magic act, but so are the Clairvoyants.  Their act is better.

Sal is going to beat Grace and Brian?  Seems highly unlikely.

Sofie and Victor both had beautiful stage performances and maybe they could do it again and be even more incredible.  Probably not, but they have a chance.

The Clairvoyants had their best performance.  Can they pull off something even more sensational?  Maybe.

Laura and Linkin Bridge have both performed exceptionally.  Either would need the performance of their life to win.

Brian and Grace were probably the top vote getters from their respective groups.  Either would be tough to beat.  Beating both of them is going to take something special from the rest of the performers.

This is such a difficult poll because from the title, I think "who I expect to win" but from the actual question, who I would like to see win is a totally different question. I expect ukelele girl to win.

Agreed. It's pretty much a core tenet of a show like this that who a lot of people want to win isn't likely to match who they believe is most likely to do so. Because most of us can see beyond our own preference to who we see is most likely striking that (often) shallow spot that resonates with the largest cross-section of viewers.

The girl Simon (wrongly) compares to Taylor Swift, hits a lot of notes that viewers eat up.  A precocious kid. A singer-songwriter. The fact that Simon mentioned Taylor Swift. etc.

But knowing people will eat this all up and vote for it doesn't mean I would like to see her win. That's a different person entirely.

Grace is likely to win. I just wanted to check the time of the finale and the top links when searching for AGT are all about Grace.

I would like to see a non singing act win but I'm doubtful. The show picks people that will make good ratings and pushes winners that can make them money. A juggler is just not as marketable as a 12 year old singer.

It's possible Grace will have an off night in a way that her voters notice--though that's true for any act.

I think Sophie is marketable, and the non-singers together would make a great variety show.  If I were betting, I'd bet on Grace for the top two or three; I could see a surprise ending but I'm not sure whom.  That's the drawback of only knowing that the Dunkin' Save were relatively low (which is why I wouldn't bet on Sophie or TapeFace to win, only to get the AGT draw in their inevitable follow-up bookings.)

The next few days might get busy, so thanks everyone for thoughtful insights--or benchmarked against what the judges say, *extremely* thoughtful insights.  (I know, we're not on live TV--but we're also not paid really well to say things.)

Possible, but unlikely. Not because she's more or less likely to have vocal issues, but because she's the kind of act that's largely bulletproof when it comes to her actual vocals. It's all about her cute little kid-ness and her quirky songwriter spin and backstory for most people, I'd argue. I mean her whole singing style is all affectation anyway. So how are most people likely to notice when an affected singing style goes wrong?

Plus, America's Toilet Paper, USA Today, on a slow news day today, when they needed some extra content? Which contestant do you suppose they defaulted to writing about?

Sept 13, 2016 - USA Today: Grace VanderWaal: 5 things we learned about the 'America's Got Talent' phenom

Laura Bretan has some of the same (the kid prodigy thing), but the Opera thing is a bit more played out.

I think it falls a lot on the producers and judges this time. Who gets the final pimp slot. If someone gets the clearance for a big emotional crowd pleasing song to go up against Miss Singer-Songwriter. Etc.

We all know people don't always vote logically. That Crum guy was a vote leader last week simply because the audience cheered loudly, because he had the pimp spot, and because the judges did indeed pimp him. But he sucked.  It didn't seem to matter.

I am curious to see who gets the pimp spot tonight. Laura Bretan is the only one who got it in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Grace got it in the quarterfinals (in the semifinals she lost it to Laura) and Brian got it in the semifinals (in the quarterfinals he lost it to Grace). Those three are the only ones who have gotten a pimp spot except for Sos and Victoria, who were eliminated. One of the three (Laura, Grace, Brian) will most likely get it tonight. My money's on Laura, just because she's gotten it the most so far. It would have been on Grace, but I was actually surprised when she got edged out by Laura in the semis and I could see that happening again.

I'd love for TapeFace to win.  I just adore him, but I know he's not everyone's cup of tea.  Of the singers, Brian Justin Crum is amazing.  I think he's hit it out of the park every time, so he's my pick to win.  I'd also be happy if Viktor Kee, Sofie or Jon Derenbos were to win it.
