Sausage Party (2016, but really, if there's another movie titled Sausage Party, please speak up)

My son saw it this weekend and thought it was very funny.  What I found interesting is that they were three areas where some people were carded to get in and a big sign that said "This party is not for children.  R-rated for....etc, etc....".  I wonder if they had too many parents assuming that Deadpool was a typical Marvel movie that they didn't want to take any chances with this one.

I think a lot of people think animated = for kids and this movie has also come out shortly after "The Secret Life of Pets," which you CAN take kids to, and this movie is really not for kids at all. Even without the language and the orgy, it's not for kids - the way food dies is violent enough that I wouldn't take a kid to see it. I saw an interview with Salma Hayek and she said her husband said "Oh, you're doing an animated movie? Would Valentina [their daughter, who I think is around 8] like it?" And she was like "Um, no, we shan't take her to see this one." She was going to let him be surprised by how dirty it was at the premiere. Every theater I've been to that is showing this movie (I've been escaping into air conditioned movies a lot because it's been hot as fuck on the East Coast for weeks) has a sign up to the effect of "Sausage Party has a hard R rating. For real, y'all: do not take your kids to see this movie." I've been in R-rated movies where parents have brought their young kids and it never goes well - and that's when the parents know what's up and just take the kids anyway. I could totally see how parents would be like "Aw, a talking hot dog and bun! How cute!" and think it's for kids, and then been righteously indignant when they hear the first "fuck." I'm assuming the theaters want to cut off that righteous indignation.

After seeing this movie, me and my sister had a lengthy discussion trying to describe what the fuck that was. It just felt lazy...I was just waiting for it to be over. I didn't expect a moving film experience or anything, but I thought I'd get a few good laughs out of it. Best part of the whole experience was the trailer for The Magnificent Seven.  This one just wasn't for me *shrug*

I rented this because I needed an escape. And while it was funny, much of the story was very,VERY relevant to the election aftermath. Won't say any more than that because I don't want to get political on the movie thread.

It was funny when they broke the fourth wall at the end. Wasn't expecting that.
