Also, regarding boards for this show:

The best was the CMT board.  Then they shut it.

The Yahoo board was/is the weirdest site.  You couldn’t read anything on it.  I think it was started by a former DCC but who knows. I think I am still a member but they themselves should shut it down. It’s embarrassing.

DCC site used to be fantastic.  We all know what happened there. In this day and age, I am shocked that the site is so bad. Another embarrassment.

TWOP - a great board which then closed.

IMDB - I never really read anything on there of interest and since it was my real name on my account, I wasn’t going to get “real.” I don’t think it’s a big deal they shuttered it. Just my opinion.

Closed Facebook DCC page - no one on there posts.  It was started by a couple of posters after CMT board shut down.  I thought it would be fun and exclusive.  It isn’t.  Ha!

All the DCC run sites - more yawning here. I guess people take advantage way too much and want to get personal or criticize nastily. I would hope to believe there is a way around it but I don’t know how much effort the DCC really want to put into their online presence.

The IMDB boards got REALLY bad in many cases, depending on what the board was.  I remember HUGE nasty fights and people trolling to get their yucks.  I took a break for a while because I got tired of being told that I didn't know a good actress when I saw one and done in the nastiest words possible.  After I went back, then I word post occasionally, but never as regularly as I had once done.

I don't know if I'm allowed to say this directly, so I'll throw a veil on it. From what I saw (never joined) TWOP was horrifyingly over-moderated with a congressional sized library of arbitrary rules and regs. I don't think I threw a veil on that, did I? I meant to.

I lurked and found it informative but never saw it as "fun" or anything I wanted to join. I much prefer this venue. Let's face it, I don't need another DCC board, I waste enough time here.

I agree TWOP was over-moderated. I posted there, but not as actively as I do here. I have to say I was at a point here a while back where I felt it was over-moderated as well, but it calmed down quite a bit. I enjoy equal parts fun and informative, which I feel like there's a good balance of now.

I'm hoping I'm in the small talk thread, because if not, then laaaawd am I off subject.

Don't get me started about all the people I know who LOVE the color purple (and not the book or the movie).  She either is wearing something purple or has something purple nearby.  If it's purple, she LOVES it.

One of them that I used to work with, a woman in her now early sixties will only eat pre-packaged food or go to a restaurant.  The only times she ever ate anything home-cooked was when I brought it to her.  She never made anything and I don't think she even owns any pots or pans.  One time I brought her stroganoff (without the noodles) and told her she would have to make the noodles to go with them on her own.  The next day, she asked me why there weren't any noodles with the meat sauce.  I nearly face-palmed and had to retreat before I either laughed in her faced or shook my head at her complete lack in the kitchen.  Practically every other single person I know have SOME ability in the kitchen, even if it's heating up a can of soup.

So hubs and I decided to go buy a new television yesterday, kind of on a whim. Until now the biggest one we had in the house was 40". We went to Best Buy with the intention of buying a 48", and we ended up buying a 55". The best part, though, is that I drive an Altima, which is far too small to carry a tv that large, so instead of waiting five days to have the behemoth delivered, we opted to go across the street and rent a UHAUL pickup truck to get it home. What an adventure.

All I can think now is, "Damn, the cheerleaders are gonna look even fatter on this screen."

(J/k, please don't throw rocks at me.)

The one I never understood was "boards on boards".  You weren't allowed to begin a sentence with "Am I the only one who...?" because that's "discussing the boards on the boards." Huh? By that little tidbit of logic, isn't saying that you agree with a poster "boards on boards" and should not be allowed?

I once got warned for "boards on boards" but my take wasn't that it meant what you mentioned.  My warning was for mentioning another message board and that the moderators didn't want any issues with other websites should they find out about posts.

THAT I can understand.  I also understand that you weren't allowed to say something like "I hate reading the xyz board because their posts are stupid," but of course that's common sense, it's the "Don't be a dick" rule here :)  But not being allowed to say "Am I the only one" was the one that really really perplexed me!

I am obsessed with  Panera LOL but then again I'm from it's home StL where we still call it St. Louis Bread Company, or just Bread Co. No I get what you mean though my actual favorite restaurant is a stand alone not a chain. I always have to laugh though bc really we think these girls actually eat anything other than a few lettuce leaves at these places LOL

I'm copying this into 123 because @twinkietwin94 reminded me that Panera was so much better when it was St. Louis Bread Company. I lived on that soup when I was in college! The quality has gone so far down. And they got rid of their yummy shortbread cookies.

There used to be a San Francisco Sourdough Company store near where I used to work.  It disappeared sometime after I left that job.  I never ate there.  There also used to be a Five Guys and Fries across the street, but I don't think it even lasted a year at the location.  Now, there's one too far away for me to go there and try it out though I always meant to.  However,  I LOVE Cafe Rio, but it's only in select cities areas.  We had two stores where I live, but one closed.  At least there's still one close enough that I can get their shredded beef taco salad when I have a craving.  It is YUMMY.

Oh man, couldn't get onto the boards for hours. Is it really sad that I was distressed by this? I think I need to get shock therapy or something.

JESUS! I have MISSED you all! SEVEN HOURS away! This must be what it's like to lose a family member (to quote OhmyyyMegan, who likened not being selected to the death of a family member and whose insta states that she thinks the nazis were well-organized and that Hitler was an amazing ruler. Or something like that.

I was off yesterday, and while I couldn't access this site, I couldn't watch The Bachelor on ABCs website or access my Fitbit dashboard.  I thought Xfinity failed me (imagine that!), but nope, other sites worked just fine.

would love to see what you think of it!!!!  I love Disney/fairy tale/fantasy movies, and I LOVE Emma Watson, but I wasn't sure about seeing this one since it seemed like it would be more of a live-action version of the beloved animated version and I wasn't sure what to think about that

I'm so scared that I'm not going to like it because all I can see is Emma as Hermione in the previews, her singing sounds really good though so I'm excited about that.

I can’t wait to see BATB (Beauty and the Beast).  Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey is the beast and believe it or not, I have never seen Emma Watson in a movie (unless you count the small supporting role she had in that Sofia Coppola movie about teenagers robbing Paris Hilton’s home).

Think of it this way...if Hermione cast a spell and turned herself into s Disney princess it would be Belle. Although, I completely get what you mean.

Frankly, I wonder why they chose Emma Watson to play Beauty, but that's just me.  I love the animated version and was highly disappointed by the stage musical as the production values screamed CHEAP to me (and geared more towards the parents than the children) so I'm very meh about the live-action version.

Terrance Mann will always be my version of the Beast (as well as Rum Tum Tugger from Cats and Javert from Les Miserables).  No one can ever compare to him though Robby Benson (the voice from the animated version) comes in second.

Racism is not a buzzword--it's reality. Not calling out racism is what allows it to perpetuate. If someone is telling me that something I've said implies racism, of course my first response is to get defensive and laugh it off, but it's far more helpful if I take that direction and evaluate myself and my words and actions.

@MaryWebGirl  I want to commend you for having the confidence and strength to confront people when they speak or act in a way that is, or can be perceived as, racist.  Even when - or perhaps especially when - a person speaks or acts that way out of ignorance.

I grew up in a Latino immigrant family in the then-rural (1970s), now-suburban Midwest.  The people who lived there were really good people, generally second- or third-generation Irish, Swedes, Poles, Italians, and Germans; but we were the strangers in a strange land, the first of our kind, speaking only Spanish at home and among ourselves, at a time when there were no other Latino families around.  I entered first grade at my all-American school speaking little English, and I remember that the other kids would laugh at me when I confused my words, spoke with my heavy accent, or blurted out an answer to an English question I understood, using the only Spanish words I knew how to reply with.  That was understandable and forgivable, of course, but there were some classmates who called my sisters and me "refugees" or "illegal aliens" (though we were technically neither), and who never invited us to their birthday parties, even when the whole class was asked to come.

My parents taught us to hold our heads high, brush off the dirt thrown our way (metaphorically and literally -- as some classmates used to taunt us on the long bus rides to school by throwing earthworms in our hair), study hard to earn good grades and achieve great things, and - as were in the minority - to de-escalate and disengage from a conflict by ignoring things, walking away, and even apologizing to bullies if we had to.  The latter are conflict-avoidance strategies I sometimes still use.  So I really respect that you are able to look someone in the face and say politely but firmly, "what you just did or said there, well that is just not right."

Things turned out fine for my sisters and me, mainly because of the love and support of our parents and extended family, but also because of the priority and emphasis we placed on our education.  Knowledge is indeed power.  I became an attorney for the Justice Department, my middle sister is a medical doctor, and the baby of the family is a schoolteacher.  My oldest son is now at Harvard and my nephew was just admitted to Yale.  But as I said, our classmates were not bad people, indeed I think most of them were very kind, decent, good people, and some became good friends -- they were just ignorant, as children are, in their use of words and actions that hurt.  A few years ago one of those kids ran into my sister in the hospital while she was making her rounds and he was visiting family.  They had not seen each other since they were teens, and both are now in their 40s.  He recognized her all these years later, approached her, indeed was happy to see her, and he told her that he had always admired her, thought that she was so smart, and was not surprised that she had grown up to be a doctor.  The kindness of that man, one of her tormentors as a boy, absolutely made my sister's day.

If I had to guess, I'd say that @QuiteContraryMoni's original infamous Chardonnay fueled crotch fruit post spawned a whole slew of forum pregnancies. Witchcraft! We should all meet up at a Burger King somewhere when the kiddos are born and Instagram the hell out of it. I'll bring my cats.

Well...probiotics and amino acids aren't woo :)

That actually sounds pretty good.  I used to do shakes all the time...much like you, throw in some frozen fruit and blend, but I got sick of drinking my breakfast.  I know pretty soon I'll be getting tired of the overnight oatmeal so I'll need a change.

They have different flavors of the shake, but I like to have a neutral flavor I can customize. I made one the other day with a spoon of pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, a spoon of plain greek yogurt, cinnamon, a stevia packet and a little coffee. OMG it was like pumpkin pie! SO good! Usually it's just the fruit mixture though.

Hey how do you do your overnight oats? Hubby just made oatmeal and wasn't crazy about it. I'd like to make some overnight oats and see if he likes them.

I've been doing 1/4 cup oats, 1/4 cup vanilla yogurt (Siggis is my favorite), 1/3 cup almond milk, 1 tsp chia seeds, 1 packet Stevia (I like mine ultra sweet), and 1/2 banana mashed.  I mix that together & sprinkle some chopped walnuts on top.  You'd swear you're eating banana bread batter!
