These guys can't even work a full day or a full week yet they get s special show.  How about doing your regular job properly first?  Rewarding laziness.

By "special" does that mean another hour of Joe talking about himself?

But I'm not the target audience here because if Chris isn't on at 8 I've moved on

good god, they put Mika remote on the Kelly Clarkson show with literally the worst audio in the history of tee-vee audio

man oh man its so hard to root for these people when they get all the basics wrong, I can't even 🥴

tbh the golf cart story is a great story, but most humans in the non-msnbc world are morons who need a backstory and context ---> this story when told to normal! humans! needs to start with "back in the 1970s, a really important peace treaty was being discussed...." etc.

No normal humans alive now knows who tf Menachem Begin was. Same with Deng Xiaoping, you gotta start with, "he was the Chinese chairman, that's why it's funny". 🥴

ok but not to be too negative, other than the insanely terrible audio quality, I thought she did really well

I think Joe carries a lot of weight at the network. He used to boast about his input into hiring decisions when there was a different guy in charge; I don’t remember who. And it pains me to say this but MJ gets good ratings. Especially if the goal is to beat CNN in the time slot. Second Place is the new Gold Standard.

Joe is happy that Biden is doing better in the polls. He said Trump would have never gone to Ukraine.

Joe said progressives are bed wetters for worrying about Biden running  in 2014.

The panel is excited about Jen Psaki's new show on MSNBC.

Joe mocked Trump for bringing his branded water bottles to East palestine Ohio.

Joe said Biden was underestimated.

Joe said Eisenhower & Reagan were underestimated.

Joe said Trump is less popular among republicans than Biden is among Democrats.

Joe said DeSantis doesn't understnand Russia. Joe mocked DeSantis for going to an ivy league school.

Joe discussed Estonia.

I'm good with watching second place. At this rate it's way better than CNN which I dumped after Brianna and John were thrown under the bus

I'm confused bc today both Joe and Mika are in the temple of jupiter optimus! maximus!

How are they gonna be back to do the live special?

I think the special will be taped interviews that Joe had while he was in Poland and Washington a few weeks ago. I wonder how long his questions will be? Will Joe let the interviewees respond ?

Mika & Joe were very excited to promote her trip to Abu Dhabi. Joe said he would have access to the suite & complimentary mini bar where Mika will be staying. Joe will be there to chaperone Mika and act as part of her security detail.

We used to watch CNN. After too many unnecessary morning host and program format changes, we switched to MJ.

I am getting a little tired of the know your value push. It seems more like an elitist way to gain attention. Where is the focus on regular people? Maybe it is there and I am not paying enough attention.

Mika has opened her Know Your Value organization to Women over the age of 30 that make less than 1 million dollars per year. Mika said that guests to Abu Dhabi seminar will receive a copy  of her KYV book with a new foreword by Donny Deutsch !.

I'm just catching up now and I thought the Thursday special was overall quite good...

But I really really wanted it to be a Morning Joe special, in the sense that I thought they would do MJ-style specials?

How can there be an MJ special without Mika and Willie? And a roundtable with guests who are *live*? And spontaneity, and humor?

I felt like I was watching a totally different show, with everything I love about MJ drained out of it. It was just Joe, by himself, interviewing people in dark rooms? No Willie, no Mika.

It could have been any journalist, on any channel, doing this run of the mill thing

Just where was the energy and creativity and trueness to the brand?

Hmm. But not to denigrate Joe's actual interviews, which weren't bad at all

buuuut why anyone who has made something unique into an art form would abandon that for a foray into ordinariness and mediocrity, i don't get. man oh man the table is everything.

Oh for those who missed Thursday's thingy, not to worry, after watching Friday's MJ, the *entire thing* was *repeated* during Friday's MJ? LOL why?

So Friday's real! MJ! was bascially only 1.5 hours long. The rest was reruns, repeat of the Ukraine special

and live f-ing coverage of this dude Murdagh's trial

For the love of god someone explain to me who the hell Murdagh is and why his trial is relevant to politics?

It's been on a lot and there's zero context given? Not to denigrate what's obviously a tragedy, but the actual trial is dull AF?

i feel like I'm missing something. I've never even heard of this case before, why is it of national importance aaaaah

I wish in times like this there was some other channel we could watch that covered politics while they all cover this bizarre shit. Like the Fox people can always migrate right to Newsmax, wish there was a place for us MSNBC people to migrate left for actual politics when MSNBC do weirdo irrelevant crime coverage

Monday recap. Mika was very excited that First Lady Jill Biden strongly hinted that Biden will run for re election. Rev Al said he calls Mika when he wants to know what topics will be on Morning Joe. She agreed & Joe tried to get physically close to Mikaa & perhaps embrace her on set. Mika pushed Joe away & said there are boundaries.Mika doesn't like PDA on the set.

Normal human checking in. These men and their places in history are known to me. Perhaps "people of a certain age" or "those with little familiarity with history" would fit better. Mika's appearances on daytime tv should be limited as I doubt her desired demographic is watching nor are many interested in her childhood stories and exploits involving past world leaders, [thanks to her father's job]. Smacks of desperation to me.

BTW. The MJ Special was on again Saturday morning...or at least snippets...saw Joe interviewing Important People.

yeah, I probably phrased this badly, hehe

I think what I meant is that a show like Kelly Clarkson is probably watched by a lot of people who aren't as interested *cough* obsessed *cough* with politics as we are, or the regular MSNBC viewers are. In that sense none of us are normal humans 😜

tbh most of my life is spent around non-politicos and the historical ignorance shocks me, even amongst colleagues etc whose intellect and knowledge in my field I admire greatly, they'll have these insane blindspots on other things. idk why that is, it's actually kinda worrying 🥴

If Joe is going to start adding “Voldemort” into his rotation of overused phrases (I’m looking at you, “Madisonian Democracy”), can he please learn to pronounce it properly?!?

yeah this is super puzzling! did ne never watch the movies? there's no T in there!! wtf 😂

I can't believe Mika never watched or read Harry Potter. I mean its totally okay to not be into popular culture but some basic knowledge about a huuuuuge cultural phenomena of our time is kinda part of the job description of being on teh tee-vee. I almost wonder if she was maybe trolling

Historic moment occurred today!

direct quote from Sisyphus-Joe at 8.49 a.m. on 27 February 2023 when it! finally! dawned! on his naive ass:

"Mika, I continue to ask, why do they keep doing the things that are going to make them lose? I guess the more troubling conclusion is they know they are going to lose. the party that has lost 7 of the 8 presidential elections in the popular vote know that they're a shrinking minority. so maybe they know that and say we're going to lose anyway, so let's just try to rig the process from the ground up"

OMG F-ING FINALLY! Welcome to the end of the thought process, baby.

Literally *everyone* got there a couple of years before you. Including your wife!

Thank you for clarifying. This is the reason the "handlers" need to keep Mika off of regular chat shows. I'd be surprised if Mika even knew who KC was, (and vice versa) considering her avowed disdain for pop culture. Such a cringy fit. With 4 or more cable news/politics channels blasting 12-15 hours a day, some one of them may want to book her for her old stories.

Mark Leibovich was a guest & wrote an article about Biden needing a challenger because he will be in his mid 80's in his second term. He may not finish his second term.

Barnicle said the last sitting democratic President to face a challenge was LBJ in 1968. He forgot about Ted Kennedy challenging Jimmy Carter.

Mika said her late mom was adept at using a chainsaw in her 80's.

Joe said some Democrats are worried about Kamala Harris succeeding Biden.

today's expert! panel! on *checks chyron* teen girls  #wherearethewomen

also a really really great guest for this segment on young people would have been an actual! young! person! And you know, an actual psychiatrist or sociologist or something, I mean.

also it's insane to have this conversation and focus it entirely on social media and the pandemic, without mentioning:

---> school shootings. there's a constant low-level nagging anxiety and terror that's rarely discussed

---> climate change. It's an existential crisis but is not treated as such and this creates an overwhelming sense of powerlessness and despair

---> I think Mika alluded to it, but yeah, young guys literally watching too much porn is f-ing over women. uncomfortable reading, but here you go:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/dec/08/sexual-choking-is-now-so-common-that-many-young-people-dont-think-it-even-requires-consent-thats-a-problem

this is definitely a thing and it's scary AF.

I love Mehdi Hassan!! congrats on his book. Outside of his own show i wish other msnbc shows would bring him on more, esp on middle east discussions.

I know they won't, but they should.

points for Cicero! reference! 😂

ETA: I wonder what happened to Joe? He disappeared at 7.30 and never came back.

ETA2: as did Willie! #theplotthickens

Neona has  hit the nail on the head with regard to panels comprised of older reporters/analysts/white men/etc.  discussing and hand-wringing over issues that impact so many people with different demographics. Younger or much younger people; women’s issues, racial issues and divides. I know I am leaving out a few. Is this a network decision (I guess they pay the salaries) or the individual  host decision?

MJ … Ya got four flipping hours for God’s sake.

I find the panels to be similar to cocktail party banter..."oh, kids these days", "can you believe it?", etc. They all want to show that they know about the issues, but they don't want to dig deep into it. They give themselves points for awareness but realize they aren't going to solve the problem. Just superficial chit chat. I think the time slot is tough for these types of discussions as a lot of viewers probably just want the headlines rehashed before dashing off. Though in this particular case I'm surprised Mika didn't invite in her friend, the female psychologist or psychiatrist she's mentioned in the past that has helped her with CBT and her other issues. Oh well. The show never changes; it just gets longer.

It's important for me to make clear when I do the screenshots, that I don't do it for trolling or to be cruel or anything. I just genuinely think it's an oversight kind of thing that happens accidentally.....like they mean well but they don't think it through our use their eyes!

I mean I do a screenshot like above, but I would still consider every man in there a feminist or an ally of women based on my knowledge on them from the show. Including Joe!

it's just the way they make larger choices that's a bit troubling. They had a hosting imbalance with two male hosts and one female hosts ---> then when Kasie left, they replaced her with a man, Lemire, so now the imbalance is three male hosts, and one female hosts.

Also I really like Mika, but on many shows she doesn't talk very much, and sometimes stays silent and says nothing during segments that are very important to women, like minimum wage etc. So that tilts the balance even more

Then they were given an extra hour. And instead of bringing on women contributors, they made three new segments, all hosted by men. Eugene Daniels from the White House, Andrew Ross Sorkin on finance (even though they already have Rattner), Donny Deutsch on popular culture. This literally just happened in the past year, and it would have been a great opportunity to bring in some new women, but all the new segments were given to men

Huma Abedin is another example ---> she actually has vast knowledge on politics and women in the middle east, but they only bring her in for the boring knowing your value conference infomercials. Meanwhile her perspective could actually be used on important substantive stuff!

Gov Wes Moore was a guest on Morning Joe. I remember when he was a regular guest on the show working for a non profit organization.

Moore wants the FBI to move HQ to Maryland.

How many days a month (or actual hours) does Joe work?
Move FBI headquarters to Maryland, huh? A Maryland elected official wanted to move IRS to MD  in the mid-90s and got his wish. The majority of the employees lived in Virginia. But it is huge financial Win to states on the receiving end of these kinds of boondoggles. Something “Back when I was in Congress” should ask.

Virginia and Maryland are battling to get the FBI.  With a republican governor in VA and a democratic governor in MD I wonder if that plays into the equation.

We read Wes Moore's book in middle school.

The problem with moving it to Maryland is that it would be in Prince Georges County, which has a fairly high crime rate.   In Virginia, it would be Springfleld, so it'll be interesting to see which site is chosen.

They are doing ads for another "special". tbh I'm skeptical of "specials" now because all it really means is that no one will be together and all the hosts will be in different locations and it will be awkward and boring

why can't all three of them travel together like they used to? They did all kinds of shows from all over the country, all *together*. I don't understand why that's no longer possible

Wouldn't crime in Prince Georges county decline if the FBI HQ was moved there?

That's an interesting point, but I don't think any gov't agency would want to be located in a high crime area.  Not all of them are agents, some are regular gov't employees who want to be in a relatively safe area.
