Cupid Stunt June 23, 2020 Share June 23, 2020 MIL Stunt is ... better? Same fever, aches and pains, no lung congestion, cranky and exhausted at being cooped up. I spoke to her on Skype over the weekend, and stopped by this morning with fresh nectarines and summer mandarin oranges. She was on the stationery bike; she's worked her way up to 250 yards. Sick of being in bed, MIL's worrying her nurses by staying out of it. She walks around her room, draggling the nebulizer behind her like a reluctant cat on a leash (it's too heavy to carry for long), sit-and-stand exercises with her wingback chair, snapping Jeopardy answers at Alex Trebek: "Where do they find these people?" -- I try not to think about it. FIL Stunt is encouraged by her progress, and is feeling better as well. So, it's better news on the In-law front. Father's Day was excellent. Bea came down and made everyone's weekend. The orchard is doing well and she's sort-of on the mend. Bea and I ran the market stall Saturday so Mom could launder her new sheets and towels; they were flapping on the line most of the weekend. Gramma and Aunt Trinket embroidered ranch laundry marks on the dried linens. My brother hosted a pig roast on Sunday. The hot sauce and beer flowed, and we partied like the Latin Kings. Mr. Stunt had a screening of one completed project; the early 40s stars want more rejuvenation. Producers and studio says, "Let's renegotiated your contract or this is what you get." Threats, coercion and fear of exposure -- A long standing tradition of Hollywood contract deliberation. The Thing's are fine. Busy changing the world one voter registration, face mask, data study at a time. Eleven more employee/family members test positive for COVID-19. One station office is being closed, and the employees will work from home; lots of whining about that. More quarantining, testing, fumigating, lecturing. JasonCC June 24, 2020 Share June 24, 2020 (edited) I hadn't really remembered Gina's restaurant that much to be honest, it all kind of just blended in with the dark wood and lighting that's classic Y&R. But, with these vintage episodes running I've got to say while I don't love it, it DOES feel like what a Midwestern Italian restaurant from the 80s would be! I was a bit thrown off by people dancing in it on Monday's 1984 (Victor's Mom/Traci's suicide attempt) episode. That was Gina's right? I grew up outside Madison, WI more years ago than I want to admit and our house had many of those spindles like in the GC restaurant/bar separating the dining room from the kitchen and then (on the other side) the dining room from the "family room" (AKA TV room or den...but NOT the living room which was a separate deal and had no TV in it). My little brother and I made sure GI Joe and He-Man and She-Ra climbed those spindles like they were prehistoric trees often! We could leave toys "out" in the family room but not in the living room LOL Edited June 24, 2020 by JasonCC 3 6 Link to comment

OhioSongbird June 25, 2020 Share June 25, 2020 Mmmmm, grilled cheese and tomato soup made with milk. My go-to quickie meal. Dill pickles and green onions on the side. I use sharp cheddar and tried a slice of provolone with it last time. Really tasty and gooey. Tuesday I made baked fish with steamed asparagus. Here's my recipe: Two fish fillets....I use catfish but I think any white fish would work. Cut them in half crosswise so you have four nice pieces. Marinate in buttermilk, lemon juice and ground black pepper for 2-4 hrs. Lift out of marinade quickly, leaving as much marinade on the fillets as you can, dredge in Panko crumbs (make plenty!) seasoned with oregano, basil, parsley, dried chives, lemon pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, anything else that sounds good to you, salt and pepper. Put a thick coating of crumbs on each side (smash it on. I even do each side twice). Put on greased baking pan and mound on the rest of the crumbs. Bake at 375 for 20 or so minutes depending on the thickness of your fillets. Don't worry about the crumbs burning. The darker they are the crunchier.....best part. Tartar sauce and/or lemon and you're good to go. Also works great with fish 'nuggets'. I get catfish already cut in smaller pieces and make them the same way. More crumbs on each piece....win-win. Let me know if you try it and what kind of fish you used. I am not a fan of tilapia but I think this would even make that taste good. 😊 Enjoy! 1 7 Link to comment

jewel21 June 25, 2020 Share June 25, 2020 Why the hell would you go to an after party during a pandemic? Montreal has pretty much opened everything up and they're going to stop doing daily briefings soon. We gathered for Father's day last Sunday and we didn't social distance or wear masks. We all sat around one another and ate lunch. And gramps plans on doing the same next weekend. I'm tired of being the only one who cares. It's exhausting. My cousin never wears a mask around me, although I wear one around her. We were in a car together for a couple of hours and she claimed the mask made her glasses fog up, and we're already hanging out so it's too late and if she had covid, I would have it too at this point. Thanks. And family shows up when I'm not home and am unaware and I'm sure they're touching all sorts of stuff that I'm touching so I have no idea what is contaminated. Like they wash their hands, but don't disinfect the tap or the doorknobs so like what's the point? Apparently they came over for lunch again on Tuesday, ate everything, and didn't even do dishes. God I hate them all. Ugh. I don't know, jewel. It's frustrating after witnessing what my MIL and other employee's have suffered through. The employee's that have recovered from coronavirus are better, but not back to normal. There are many post-recovery issues and physical/emotional damage. Los Angeles is in a resurgence of infections since recent business reopenings. Public mask-wearing was just mandated by the state, but people are ignoring social distancing everywhere you go. I'm worried. Everyone in my division receives daily Emails on Corona updates in their state/location -- With the same warnings and a list of precautions. Every. Day. We have free testing and generous pandemic health coverage for employees and their families. The station managers are fully appraised on corporate/division pandemic procedures. Or so I thought -- The first person who tested positive and symptomatic with the virus was the station manager who attended the after-hours party. I just sent out a tersely-worded Email on the station closure, reiterating corporate safety procedures, and did some barking at the station mangers as well: You lead by example and blah blah blah. Short of walking around with a bucket to drop over their head and bang it with a shovel to get their attention, I'm worn out. There are nuclear options, but I'm not prepared for that. The only behavior you can change is your own. You have to protect yourself, and do the same for your grandfather as best you can. You know the drill. Wear a clean mask in public, and when people come into your private spaces (Ignore their lack of precaution and protect yourself). Wash your hands. Regularly wipe down all surfaces, doors, knobs and handles. If you're not sure, wipe it down anyway. Encourage your grandfather to wash regularly and clean surfaces, to wear a mask out in public and with visitors. It is exhausting, but once you get in the habit of masking and cleaning and distancing yourself, it will be the norm. Do not let the reckless behavior of your family keep you from protecting yourself. Will they take the responsibility of caring for you and your grandfather if either of you get sick with COVID-19 because of they're asymptomatic? Edited June 26, 2020 by Cupid Stunt 9 Link to comment

lovemesomejoolery June 26, 2020 Share June 26, 2020 22 hours ago, OhioSongbird said: Mmmmm, grilled cheese and tomato soup made with milk. 😊 Enjoy! I am going to try this this weekend! Thank you for a great idea to make fish. Now, if I could only find some catfish! I have some flounder in my freezer, so may use that. When I was a young girl, I went through a very definite period of massive pickiness when eating. For a time, my parents couldn't get me to drink milk, eat meat.....it went on for at least a summer or two. Anyhow, all of my relatives are in Kentucky, where my parents were born. A lot of relatives there.....my great grandma (on my mom's side) had 17 children and my grandma was the oldest. You can just imagine the sheer numbers of folks at family reunions! My dad, from Louisville, was an only child of Greek immigrants, so no family here in the states. Every summer, I was shipped off to my grandparents in Lexington for a month, which I loved. My parents would come at the end of a month and we'd spend a week more in Lexington and then on to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where my dad had an annual conference. There used to be a place in Lexington called Parkette, a drive in restaurant with hamburgers, shrimp baskets, etc. The big deal was one of the nights when my parents were in town, tons of family would go to Parkette. Since I was meat-averse, I'd get a grilled cheese. They made their grilled cheese sandwiches by putting mayo, lettuce and tomato on them! To this day, I make my grilled cheese sandwich the same way - I spread a tiny amount of Miracle Whip on both pieces of bread, put on exactly three pieces of cheese on top of the Miracle Whip so every surface of the bread is covered - the third piece of cheese is torn in half and put on the sides to get total coverage - grill it up slowly so that all the cheese melts, then, when it's golden brown, I open up the sandwich and put on the lettuce and tomato and cut it in half, diagonally! Ahhhhh........it transports me. And it tastes good! 6 Link to comment

I will miss him, but I need him out this house! And I will be able to go back to work at my office, too! I’m so excited about that. Anything I can do to forget I was supposed to be departing on the trip of a lifetime on 7/3. I was going to Paris and then on to the countryside of France and also Lake Como ITL with my bestie for a 3 week vaca. It’s killing me. Best of luck to you and your son! 🤗 Hopefully your trip is simply on pause for now. Sounds like you have a fabulous time planned. It will happen but the disappointment must be overwhelming right now. I loved the way you wrote about visit to that drive in, it took me back in time too. I'm glad it made you smile! I always remember those summers, feeling so carefree. I am an only child, like my dad, so going there was great because I was able to spend time with my cousins and I still remain fairly close to several of them. My mom was the only person in that huge family to ever move away from Lexington, except for maybe one of her cousins, who was some sort of exec with Toyota in Georgetown and traveled alot. But when he retired, he settled right back in Lexington. Those summers really taught me things at an early age, like where food comes from, because back then most of my family of my grandparent's age were farming - tobacco, dairy farmers - and even if their kids had more white-collar type jobs, they still had their own side hustle going on with a tobacco field! Life was simpler there, probably because of the time period. I hadn't been back as an adult until my grandfather died in the mid 90's, and then a year after that, right around Derby Day, my husband, mom and I took a road trip there for all the big parties held during then. I didn't go back again until my own mom passed away in 2009, where we had her buried in a family plot. That carefree feeling, even with all that grief, came roaring back. It reminded me that family is truly everything! 6 Link to comment

It's funny, you either love or hate cilantro....... We used to never like cilantro, mostly because I made some horrendous pasta dish early in my marriage with ingredients that NEVER should have been mashed up together. It was the late 80's, a recipe out of Gourmet Magazine, when cilantro was probably considered "exotic" ...... some sort of cream sauce made with cilantro and blue cheese that had chicken and fettuccine. It called for copious amounts of cilantro......I swear, it is the only time in 33 years that my poor husband has looked up at me sorrowfully and said "I am so sorry, but I can't eat this". I use cilantro all the time, always have it in my fridge. But it took awhile for me to ever try it again! 9 Link to comment
