S05.E05: You Got Served

I loved this episode. Cyrus had me cracking up! I don't think he is in love with Fitz, it's an obsession born of everything he's done for him over the years. It certainly isn't healthy but it is entertaining.

I did actually love seeing Ediison and I like that he didn't hold back. The problem with Liv and Fitz is they don't care who they hurt along the way - they say they do but their actions tell a different story.

Loved Leo too. He injected some energy I feel like the show's been lacking lately. I feel bad for Mellie. Not because I think she's a good person but she's no worse than anyone else. I want to see her have a win at Fitz' expense.

Asz much as I am over Fitz the character, I did enjoy Fitz shirtless even more than usual.

I think the only one who knows Fitz killed Verna is Olivia. Although I vaguely remember a conversation between Liv and Cyrus where I thought she might have told him.

Cyrus was the only one who knew initially... He told Liv about it around the same time that he showed Fitz the Liv/Jake sex tape, as part of his efforts to keep them apart. At the end of season 2.

Enjoyed the recap (as always) but correcting something because it was a twist in the writing I really enjoyed. At the end of Cyrus's rant about remembering everything Fritz does, he says "I'm the guy you use and abuse and toss out . . . I know exactly how many times you mispronounced a certain word in a debate 17 years ago, and you couldn't tell me my mother's name."

Recap says:

As Cyrus prepares to drop the mic and leave, Fitz calls out that he does remember details about Cyrus, especially about his friendship with Olivia. Which isn't really about Cyrus, but I guess Fitz is making the point that, when you love someone, you pay attention.

but Fitz's speech is not about Cyrus's friendship with Olivia, but rather about Cyrus's relationship with his mother, who sent him murder mysteries every week, and whose name, Fitz says, was Helen.

What I can't figure out is why there is a Senate committee investigating Fitz for possible impeachment when the US Constitution clearly makes this the responsibility of the House of Representatives. The House impeaches the President who is then tried by the Senate. The Senate has no business doing any investigation. Or are we in Bizarro World?

I never knew how much I needed Leo until he showed up.  Leo’s appearance made me realize why I enjoyed the last episode so much.  It’s because I always hated, hated, hated how the POS characters on this show always patted themselves on the backs and called themselves “white hats” and called each other good people (when they are obviously sooo not).  I enjoyed the people within Scandalverse FINALLY calling Olivia and company on their sh*t.
LOVED Leo’s “Weirdos! Focus!
LOVED Leo calling the new guy the Coward of the County.
LOVED Edison’s throwing Olivia’s hypocritical speech back in her face. It almost made me stand and cheer.
Now they just need to add Leo as a regular.  Maybe his self-awareness will catch on.

Because Bizarro World elected Mellie to the Senate so therefore, they wanted to use that for a plot contrivance. Despite the whole "it doesn't work that way" issue.

I don't think we'll be shown, but I do wonder what Fitz could possibly say to Lizzy North that would in any way neutralize her.

I don't know what he could say, but I sure know what he could do to her.   Tragic car accident, anyone?

Liz can get Huck-ed again as far as I'm concerned. I still don't understand how Fitz doesn't know she was in bed with Andrew (literally) on this West Angola thing. This plot hole is just too big for my nerves.

Lizzy's hire was completely a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" moment.  As long as she doesn't become a gladiator, I don't care what happens to her.

I think the Senate can do whatever investigation it wants of this issue.  You are right that the Articles of Impeachment would originate in the House then the Senate would try him, but that doesn't prevent the Senate from doing an investigation of the topic beforehand.  For example, during Watergate, there was a Senate Committee dedicated to the investigation, along with one in the House.  I believe for Iran-Contra, there was a joint investigation by the Senate and House.

This episode was so good. Wow. Vintage Scandal. The last few minutes really brought to light the fact that Jeff Perry as Cyrus is a force and a presence that not only makes the show better, but that was sorely missed before. It was not good to sideline Cyrus. Perry just ups everyone's game -- Tony Goldwyn was as good as I've ever seen him. Cyrus is the grownup at the kids' table, and these kids need adult supervision.

I didn't see it as Cyrus was in love with Fitz at all, but more that every relationship on this show is codependent. None are healthy. Fitz and Cyrus are as codependent as Fitz and Olivia. I don't know if it's politics, personality, something in the water or what -- but these people cannot live with or without each other.

The dysfunctional Washington D.C. family was missing the guy who sits at the head of the table, so welcome back, Cyrus!

Like others, I also loved Olivia's speech. It harkened back to her "difficult, painful, extraordinary love" speech from season 2. It was forthright and refreshing. It's another reason I badly want to see a Bachelor #3. How does Olivia respond when it's not a married man who is sort of dangerous for her? Or does she crave the excitement too much?

Really enjoyed this one. Classic Scandal.
