S04.E22: Clean Break

Recommended Posts

As Coach prepares to move out of the loft, Schmidt also decides to get rid of his non-essentials and in the process discovers what is truly important to him; Jess and Nick reminisce about their “sex mug” and wonder if they still have feelings for each other.

Winston's message to Cece might be the best thing that ever happened on this show.

The Nick and Jess storyline seemed realistic to a couple in their situation.

Not sure about Cece and Schmidt getting engaged, but since I'm tired of them cicling each other I happy to see them have some forward progression.

I think it's a little soon for them to be engaged, but I'm glad Cece and Schmidt are back together. I really love them.

Not so happy that they are going back to Nick/Jess. I wanted them together when the show first started, but the way the writers went about hooking them up completely turned me off of them as a couple and made me stop watching the show for a while.

Coach's goodbye was nice.

Cece and Schmidt have known each other for a long time, so I think that after the most recent breakup left them both pining for each other they had both figured out what they wanted. It's not like Schmidt was proposing to a stranger.

I really liked the way the show wrapped up the season. Aside from the surprise proposal, Coach's sendoff was sweet, the Jess/Nick sexual tension was well played -- I still want them to live happily ever after together when the show ends -- and Winston was wonderful as usual. And Ferguson the cat has a new mug.

I want to see Winston's Phylicia Rashad box. I also loved his "Rude" when Coach threw the spatula, his selfies with Furguson, and his epic message to Cece. I especially loved him saying he was so nervous afterwards. So basically I just love Winston. He's my favorite. My favorite character, favorite human, and favorite weird-o.

I've never really felt any sort of way around Schmidt and Cece being together but I gotta admit that my breath caught in my throat when Schmidt flat out asked if Cece was in love with him. The flashback to 'girl, I'm gonna marry you' was sweet too. Definitely something to tell their grandchildren.

I loved Nick and Jess as a couple before they got together, loss some love while they were together, and now I don't think I care at all.

This was a good finale. It could have worked as a series finale if they hadn't gotten picked up. I have a visceral "God, no!" reaction every time they dance around the Nick/Jess relationship, so that didn't work for me, but I loved the Schmidt/Cece and Coach storylines. Winston, aka Winnie the Bish, is a gem.

I also loved Schmidt trying to get back into the donation bin. Max is so good with physical comedy.

Ferguson! I've been wondering if we'd ever see him again. They've been mentioning him but not showing him since - last season?

So, this was the season finale. Weird because it wasn't promoted as such, as far as I saw. I thought the scene between CeCe and Schmidt was heartfelt and really well done for a show that's usually so absurd.

I won't miss Coach. It's weird, because I spent the first two seasons of this show wishing they'd been able to keep Damon Wayans Jr. and that Winston was a poor substitute for Coach, but now I much prefer Winston. It took them a long time to really flesh out his character  but once they did, they just didn't need Coach anymore. They've struggled to integrate Coach back into the show and it never really worked.

I loved the montage of Schmidt trying to get into the Goodwill drop box. I would love to be there on shooting day, just watching Max Greenfield improv all these different pratfalls and hijinks.

Nodding in agreement.  I loved and adored DW Jr as Brad on Happy Endings.  Couldn't get enough of him.  But his character here on New Girl mostly left me cold.  I don't blame him -- more so the writers who just didn't seem to know what to do with him.

I've actually been a Cece/Schmidt 'shipper for a while now so I was super happy to see the proposal.  Very sweet and sincere.

I enjoyed the episode. It was just 'nice'.

Thing I'm most looking forward to next season is them hopefully ditching the opening titles that they brought in this year. They're awful and look like someone spent about 2minutes on Windows Movie Maker throwing something together.

Echoing the thoughts expressed by many. The farewell to Coach was done well, when he leaned out of the car window to wave goodbye to them, I was surprisingly moved.Coach and Winston were both funny and emotional in their scenes. "Rude" is my new favorite line from Winnie the Bish. That whole exchange with leaving CeCe the voice mail cracked me up. "I was so nervous".

As for the two main couples on the show, we know that they are destined to be together. I was surprised at the proposal but then I shrugged it off. I liked the group hiding and listening and hugging each other when it was happening. But i have no particular feelings about CeCe & Schmidt. I'm just glad the when will they get back together cause we know it's going to happen bit is over. At least for them.

Jess & Nick. When the show put them together, I stopped regularly watching. I honestly don't want them to get back together but I know it's inevitable. I'd just be happy if they don't draw it out over the entire season. I was irritated by the conversation they had about the cat "sex mug", it was their usual roundabout "don't say anything but hope the other person picks it up through brain waves" type of conversation. That’s their dynamic and I don't see a real, long-lasting relationship coming from 2 people who can only have meaningless conversations with each other.

I feel like season 5 would be a nice point to end the show. It feels like they can successfully bring stories to a close and leave on a relatively high point.

The part that really cracked me up was when CeCe showed up at the front door and they all ran to the kitchen to hide - you can see Winston coming around the sofa with both hands to his mouth like he's stifling a scream. The visual was hilarious.

What an excellent way to end the season!

The Schmidt and CeCe proposal was too darn adorable.  I LOVED that his comment was that he was going to marry her someday.

Winston stole the show!  As soon as they got a good footing on his character, he has been unbelievable!  I love him!  Hands down my favorite.  Everything he did in this episode was pure gold.

I don't mind seeing Nick and Jess back together.  Hopefully next season will be its last and they can wind up together at the end.

I loved Coach initially and was sad when he originally left the show.  They just didn't write him very well so I wasn't heartbroken to see him go.

The return of Ferguson! For nothing else, I would love this episode for that.

I really loved this episode. I loved the end of Coach, even if it was sad. It was a good ending to his character.

If Cece and Schmidt are going to be together, I`m glad they got engaged. I am so sick of obvious endgame couples doing the on/off angst dance for season after season, so I hope they just commit now. I like them as a couple, so I`m good with it.

This season has had its ups and downs, but I`ll miss it. See you next season!

So........next season will be all about leading up to the wedding, and the awkwardness of the best man (Nick) and maid of honor (Jess)  being thrown together in a romantic journey.

Please show, do NOT end the series with a last minute joint wedding!

Overall I enjoyed watching season 4, it was pretty good. I kinda like the Schmidt-Cece relationship, because it's a realistic storyline and at least it gives Cece a purpose, which the character definetely doesn't have without (just the looks).

Jess and Nick, well I honestly don't mind them being a couple in the future again, I just feel that is the part of the show that was written really badly and gave me kind of an anticlimactic feeling throughout season 3 (I almost stopped watching then). I mean they get together, say the "I love you" to each other and mean it, and after that they find out they are difunctional couple, because their love for each other is the only thing they have in common, and miss being besties? Well solid ground for being best friends when you "have nothing in common" and weirdly live with your ex, wth?

Won't miss coach a bit, didn't add much to the story and was kind of annoying and not funny at all (thank god he was replaced by Winston is season 1 and 2).

And please stop giving Jess unbearable annoying love interests like that british dude, please stop it!
