Jane Tuesday February 15 Share February 15 I can't stand the guy, but it's also worth noting that if he pitches 140 innings this year, it automatically adds another year for $18M to his contract for 2026. He won't get close to that in the bullpen. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/389/#findComment-8581577

RE: Devers, I have immense respect for guys who do interviews in English when it's their second language. I know they're trying to connect to fans. But in situations like this, where the topic is clearly emotionally-charged, I really think the interpreter and/or the team PR person has an obligation to jump in and try to get them to switch to their native language. ProudMary February 21 Share February 21 I'm watching the NY v. TB spring training game live. Michael Kay, Jack Curry and Meredith Marakovits have been discussing the facial hair rule change. In addition to showing a clip (see below) from Hal Steinbrenner's presser regarding the change, they added a few other comments they picked up from the clubhouse. Hal specifically spoke with Aaron Judge, Gerrit Cole and Giancarlo Stanton about the long-held (48 years!) policy. He also had conversations with CC Sabathia, Willie Randolph and Ron Guidry. Hal was also concerned that the policy as it stood could impact the decisions of players of interest to the Yankees who might not want to shave their existing beards to come to the Bronx. While Hal mentions that there will be parameters, the only thing that Meredith mentioned was that hair length must still be above the collar. Personally, I like a neatly trimmed beard. I think that management should be very clear on the parameters because there's always going to be someone who pushes the limits and I don't want to be looking at 2004 Johnny Damon! Back to the actual baseball side of things, we just had the first ball/strike challenge, which was lost by the Rays. Each team gets two per game. If the calll goes in the challenging team's favor, they retain that challenge. I'm SO glad to be talking baseball again! 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/389/#findComment-8587508

I guarantee you that’s what prompted the revamp of the facial hair policy. Look at the top players hitting free agency next year: Kyle Tucker, Vlad Jr. off the top of my head. Both bearded, both can cherry pick wherever they want to go, and the Yankees are trying not to potentially lose players over something so penny-ante. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/389/#findComment-8587537

Heh, I’m pretty sure Rizzo would’ve taken a 1yr deal, based on the fact that he’s still unsigned. Yankees passed on him because he’s cooked. ProudMary February 24 Share February 24 This is just too much change in one week. It's a bridge too far! 😄 I realize that it's only after a loss, but I'm thinking of the fans who may only get to see a game or two in person at the Stadium each season and will miss out. The playing of "New York, New York" at the end of the game is an integral part of the Yankee Stadium experience. Yankees will no longer play Frank Sinatra’s ‘New York, New York’ after losses https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6155176/2025/02/23/yankees-frank-sinatra-new-york-new-york Just days after the New York Yankees amended one of the most recognizable rules in American professional sports, another iconic tradition for the organization will change in 2025. Following losses, the Yankees will no longer play Frank Sinatra’s “(Theme From) New York, New York” as fans exit the stadium. On Sunday at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees lost 4-0 to the Detroit Tigers in a spring training exhibition. After Yankees prospect Brendan Jones grounded out to end the game, Sinatra’s “That’s Life” replaced the usual “New York, New York” on the loudspeakers. It is customary for the team to play “New York, New York” as soon as the game concludes, no matter the result. "We will be rotating through a number of different songs after a Yankees loss this year, none of them will be ‘New York New York,'” a Yankees spokesperson said. There will not be a specific Yankees loss song, the spokesperson added. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/389/#findComment-8588925

ProudMary March 1 Share March 1 The Sporting News has good coverage of the story. I only add it, as The Athletic is behind a paywall for many. Anyway, this doesn't mean Rose enters the HOF. Donald Trump-Pete Rose pardon, explained: What legal news means for late MLB legend's Hall of Fame quest https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/cincinnati-reds/news/donald-trump-pete-rose-pardon-explained-late-mlb-hall-fame/110e73d07053c09cd6b8b70f Rose was found guilty of two felony charges of filing false tax returns in 1990 after he "failed to report $354,968 in income from memorabilia sales, autograph signings, and personal appearances," per an article by the Los Angeles Times. He was eventually sentenced to five months in a "federal correctional institution," where he served all five months. The pardon will not expunge Rose's record, but he is posthumously forgiven of his crime by the government. This doesn't change anything about Rose's Hall of Fame case. "In a statement to ESPN, lawyer John Dowd, who investigated Rose for MLB in 1989, said that MLB is 'not in the pardon business nor does it control admission to the HOF.'" 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/2463-mlb-thread/page/389/#findComment-8594933
