I don't watch The Talk because I don't like how they just love love love each other..I find that too much and would like a little more realism like on The View.  I tune in on occasion but have to mute or switch channels the minute the Sheryl's gums take over my screen!  I can't understand a word she says and she and WG both put on southern drawl and do a po boy routine.  If it were once in a while to finalize a point I could live with it but not every day and almost every moment of their parts of the show.  They all look to Julie there like they do to WG.

Why haven't they brought Holly or Leah to The View as guest co hosts I wonder?

I don't think everything is so lovey-dovey between Sharon & Aisha!!  Sharon is really quick to laugh & mock an Aisha faux pas, to the point that I think Aisha measures her words very carefully.  Sharon likes to lock on to something she thinks is funny & laugh beyond the point of funny.  Sharon wants Julie's approval but is NOT afraid of her.

Guliana's comment was about a hippie/Bohemian look, not aimed at black people.  Hippies wore Patchouli oil and smoked weed.  She apologized genuinely.  Much ado about nothing.

That's exactly where my mind went. But I hang with great group of and it could be anyone of us! we all work with essential oils for massage and other healing means. Then light up while we read:)

I've been watching"The View" since it started in 1997...

Ditto. I have been watching since Season 1.  Although I am probably an odd duck.  I have never watched for the interviews.  In fact, I have probably only seen 5-7 episodes all the way through during that time. I really just don't care about third-string leads in TV/movie projects or cooking segments or gift ideas, whether Meredith or Star or Rosie or Joy or Whoopi or Sherri was hosting.  I have always just taped the Hot Topics.  I enjoyed what they had to say, whether it was heartfelt or heavily scripted or a Blue Card Frenzy.

For 10 years, that meant taping the first 20 minutes.  Now its morphed to the first half hour, though when RosieO left this second time, I adjusted my timer back to catch the First 22 Minutes as that third HT segment is usually incredibly brief, stupid, promotional, or all of the above.

That said, i thought this past week was pretty decent.  I think it helped to have 5 identical co-hosts all week long.  The rapport is much better among them when there is consistency and some newbie isnt trying to make an impression.  Was it perfect, no.  Was it dreadful, no.

Looks like next week, Cristela is co-hosting all week, though it smells like a pre-tape week.

..... I think TPTB WANT the show gone and they are facilitating the circling the drain syndrome by not getting great guests and really lowering the bar for guest hosts......My belief (95%) is that they will retool/cancel the show and bring the hour back as an extension of GMA.

The one-hour extension of GMA failed miserably a few years ago.  And the syndicated Kelly and Michael has long term contracts with all the ABC o-and-o stations, as well as many non-ABC stations nationwide, and airs by contractual obligation from 9-10AM. Kelly and Michael is a huge cash cow to ABC Syndication and unless Kelly Ripa is hit by a bus and can't work, that show is going to remain at 9AM.  GMA added Strahan in a featured role, but there's no way his $10M+ "Live" contract fits on GMA. That's more than Stephanopolous or Robin make.

The View as a franchise is incredibly valuable.  Everyone knows The View. It has spawned a whole new genre of chat.  The 5-host model is replicated from Faux News (3-4 programs) to CBS (The Talk) to msnbc (The Cycle) to syndication (The Real).  ABC would be foolish to cancel it.

A re-tool is bound to happen.  It's happened a half-dozen times in the past 18 years.  Now that their financial obligation to RosieO is no longer an issue, they can easily afford to buy out Whoopi's $5M deal and re-boot the show.  I think Nicolle Wallace might continue on, but a new moderator and 2-3 other newbies will debut as part of Season 19.  There are several young-ish female personalities on GMA and I suspect one or more could be drafted to serve as moderator on The View.

The View as a brand is too valuable to fold into GMA Hour Three.

That reminds me, SanDiegoinExile, of a very successful format.  Mike Douglas would have a co-host for an entire week.  We'd get to know a bit about that person, his/her family, etc.  I always like it...and found myself enjoying celebrities I'd previously not noticed.  Of course, there's no way The View could pull that off.  Constant Interruptions seems to be the flavor of this season.

Thanks SanDiegoinExile for the info.  I did not realize that Kelly & Michael have the air time in the contract.  While that maybe would not negate The View being turned into an extension of GMA, it would be awkward to air that brand after Kelly & Michael.

My additional question revolves around the extension of the GMA brand a couple of years ago.  I think it was aired at 1 or 2 pm - at least in my Midwestern market and I wonder if the timing was wrong.  With the proliferation of talk shows might it be more successful these days?

I still think that ABC would love to win the entire am slot.

At least you give me hope with the complete retooling of the show, because really I cannot watch this mess - at all!

Yikes, I just caught a look at the guests next week - I may have to eat a bit of crow here.  Three days have people that are on my list of folks I'd love to share a beer - or coffee - with:

Kenneth, Branagh, Lee Daniels, Felicity Huffman, Tim Huffman and my all time favorite 'free spirit' - Craig Ferguson.

I know they are all flogging a project, but they are all really interesting people and smart to boot - I have seen them all control an interview if needed.  We shall see.

SO, I take it all back, I will try to tune in to see some quality guests.

Eating crow flavored with garlic!

Cristela again? Is it April Fool's week, because ABC cannot be serious.

I can't believe they can't get any women better than Cristela (I hate her laugh), Stacy London , and the few others that have been on the show.   They haven't had one person on who would actually be a good cohost!  Joy Bahar, where  are you??????

I know many black people born and raised here on Long Island who talk with a Southern drawl, and have never lived in the South. I don't think Whoopi is any more fake than they are - I suppose it is a cultural thing.

The stars of Live get paid $10M just for getting out of bed early? I remember when Kelly was on All My Children and left to take this job - I had assumed that being a soap star would pay much more than being on a daytime talk show. Since Regis left I haven't watched it more than once or twice.

It's because it's a syndicated show, not an ABC own program. The money in syndication is HUGE compared to network daytime.

I'd forgotten they tried that "Good Afternoon America" experiment a few years ago with Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer. It was a short-lived summer thing, and as I recall it bombed. I think it was pulled in favor of Katie Couric's talk show. We saw how well that turned out....

I'm not sure, but I don't think they've been able to put anything in the afternoons that has bested even the worst ratings the canceled soap operas got. Oops.

Kelly Ripa makes more than Michael Strahan.  When Regis left, he was making in the $18-20M range per year.  The whole reason he left was because ABC Syndication wanted him to take a pay cut to the $12-15M range, which is what Kelly was making.  ABC Syndication panicked a bit when Regis left and bumped Kelly to $20M+ a year to ensure she wouldn't leave.   The rumor is that they will lowball Kelly when her contract is up.  Strahan's contract doesn't have the automatic salary escalations, which is why he has signed outside deals with ABC News (for GMA) and metamucil commercials (in addition to the hefty salary Fox pays for 20 Sunday afternoons a year.)

Seems the disparity on "Live" is more than I thought.  Michael is cheap talent.  November 2013:

http://www.examiner.com/article/kelly-ripa-and-michael-strahan-s-salary-on-live-with-kelly-and-michael

"Live" makes hundreds of millions of dollars for ABC's syndication arm.  Stations pay dearly for the highly rated chat show.

Just to give you an idea of the paydays in syndication, Judge Judy's new contract through 2020 guarantees her MORE than the $47M a year she has been getting for most of the past decade.

Wow. Just think in the next five years she'll have earned over $200 million. It's too bad we can't all be paid that well for acting deranged and unprofessional.

I can't believe Kelly Ripa makes so much either. I've never liked her. Well, I was never a big Regis fan either, but Kelly Ripa always reminded of the kind of trash you'd find doing "news" on the E! channel.
