We saw it in his conversation with Lindsey and Sierra. He wanted to be thanked for his work but never thanked others for their work. It showed that early on he saw himself as the hardest worker and that he wanted others to acknowledge that.

we saw it in his confrontation with Rodney about working around camp.

[...]

I want Mike to win. But he has not been a particularly smooth or great with his interactions.

One thing in Mike's favour though is that when Lindsey (IIRC) argued back that he wasn't giving credit for the work the women had done he was willing to admit that they had done it and kind of backed off. Maybe it's a low bar, but compared to Dan's refusal to accept facts that contradict his loudly proclaimed beliefs, it's quite decent.

Maybe it's a low bar ...

It is a low bar. Mike's lucky that Dan, Will, and Rodney are bigger sexist dicks than him because otherwise I don't think he'd come off as quite the hero he does. That being said though, he at least seems to have learned from this and grown, which is more than can be said for Dan or for Rodney/will, I'm sure.

I never thought I would have been rooting for Mike or considering him a likable option at the start of the season.  I called him as winning, and it was my worst nightmare come true when it was looking like a reality.  I think Mike lucked out in the edit department.  On a different season with a more desirable cast, he likely wouldn't have come across looking so good.  All I do is go back to the first part of the season and am reminded why I didn't like him.  That said, when it got down to the 7, and everyone was ganging up on him (over the auction-I mean, how dare he try and further himself in this game), suddenly he was the best option left rooting for, compared to a bunch of miserable goats and followers.  So I rooted for him by default, and considered him likable by default.  It didn't help that everyone appeared to get meaner and leave him out of stuff because, god forbid, he won some challenges and made 6 people turn on each other.  That would have had to turn on each other anyway.

I really didn't expect him to win over Carolyn.  Happy he did, because I didn't like her (and she was my 2nd choice to win, so that says something about the season).  His win was well deserved, given the competition he was up against, and I guess an underdog did prevail in the end anyway.  Just not the underdog story I was hoping for.  I liked how he added a bit of chaos in the end, and took a chance with Carolyn over Rodney.  I loved his mischievous smile at tribal.  Seeing Dan seethe over in the jury box when Mike walked in both times with the necklace was priceless.  I liked his little pep talk with Carolyn about the fire, and encouraging her.  A fitting end to a miserable season, but certainly not the outcome I was rooting for overall.  Not the final 5 I would have gone with.  But the nightmare is over, and hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel with S31.  I'm glad Mike won, because I really didn't want to see him again next season.

Then I read this interview and it all made sense. I do wonder who his little crush was on. I'm assuming Hali.

I'm guessing Sierra since he talks about how beautiful Candice is and they're the same type. Of course that was before they played together and, Mike bossed her around. Cowgirls don't play that.

Mike, faults included, may be my favorite winner. I loved how he fought his way through, making mistakes, but never giving up.

I think there are a lot of people who come on the show and pretend to be nice, caring people (cough Dan cough) then they get sleep deprived and hungry and we see their true colors. I think Mike is the opposite, so basically decent that he had to work at the strategy and deceit part. I believe, at the auction, he was trying to outwit for the sake of gameplay, but his basic decency wouldn't let him. I think we saw the real Mike throughout, particularly when he rescued Shirin without pausing to think whether or not that was good gameplay.

I just watched Malcolm's red-carpet interview with Mike.  Apparently the t-shirt Mike was wearing at the Reunion is from a new company he started (Sweet Tees, I think?), and it was designed by our resident jewelry and immunity-necklace designer, Joe.  Nice!

Ragarding Mike's voice, I'm starting to wonder if he shouldn't move to an island/somewhere tropical and/or with a humid climate. His voice was very painful to listen to at the beginning of the season, then got progressively better, then was painful again at the reunion. I know someone who gets serious throat problems whenever in a dry climate zone (me, I'm the polar opposite, put me in a hot and warm environment, and I start reacting to the mould in the air, put me in Arizona and I breath again).

Or maybe he shouts a lot in his daily life and has no voice left at the end of the day!

I would guess Sierra too if only because she was actually on his tribe. Hali and Sierra are basically the same age, 25 and 27. Sierra is 11 years younger than Mike, which doesn't seem that big of a deal to me, but I could see Mike thinking it's a big age gap.

I finished listening to the Podcast. It is long but good.

On the flash points scene: Mike says that Will did say some very not nice things to Mike as well as Shirin but that Will came and apologized to him the following day. He said that Shirin really started to fight back when Mike came to take her out of the fight and that she did have a few comments that she should not have said but nothing close to what Will said. He also said that he had talked to Shirin a ton in the game and she did not say bad things about Will and Dan to him and he did not hear others in the camp discussing her comments about Will and Dan. He also said that Shirin wants to understand why Will was saying that she had no soul and that until Will can explain that to her and understand why he was saying that, she is probably not going to accept his apology.

It is actually a really good listen. I thought Mike was pretty well spoken. He is a huge fan of the show and clearly listens to the podcast because he was pressing buttons and asking Rob to drop certain sound bites and the like.

It did sound like he was pissed with the Blue Collar folks for ostracizing him in the game. He was fine with letting them go when Dan and Sierra refused to vote with he, Jenn, and Shirin. He referred to the "Get Mike out" mantra as Stolkhome Syndrome. They were so focused on getting him out that it became personal.
