Question: Is Syfy’s 12 Monkeys worth watching? —Janet
Ausiello: Yep. If you’ve seen the 1995 movie, the new series is different enough that it’ll hold your interest. And if you haven’t, the show’s twisty take on time travel — as well as the chemistry between Suits‘ Amanda Schull, who plays a virologist, and Nikita‘s Aaron Stanford, as a man trying to avert a global plague — will quickly pull you in.

Quick 12 Monkeys question: Dr. Railly is dead in the future. Do you think Cole is driven to save her in particular? — Karl

“Absolutely,” showrunner Natalie Chaidez says. “One of Cole’s goals is to protect Cassie and to save Cassie, who starts out as a stranger, becomes a friend, a comrade, and ultimately, by the end of season one, something much, much more. His drive to save this woman that he deeply cares about, maybe the only woman that he’s cared about so deeply, is really one of his main drives through season one.” Aww, he’s her lobster!

Episode 1.03 sees Cassandra called into the station to discuss her time at the Mental Hospital. Cole goes back to 2014 to follow a lead in Haiti but must ensure he doesn't encounter Cassandra in fear of affecting her timeline. We learn Cassandra had a personal relationship with their new lead and see Cole take drastic actions which will come between him and Cassandra in a future episode.

Bonus: If you're dying to learn more about Cole's history next week's episode introduces us to a host of new characters connected to Cole including Deacon (Todd Stashwick) and Max (Romina D-Ugo).

Do you know anything about The Witness that the Pallid Man mentioned on 12 Monkeys? — Mikey

Dr. Railly will get her first glimpse at The Witness during Friday’s episode, though it’ll be a while before you really get a sense of who this mysterious person is. “The witness’ role in the 12 Monkeys, who he is, what his goals are, is a larger question for the series,” executive producer Natalie Chaidez says. “He’s a figure of tremendous mystery, he’s a tremendously powerful figure in the 12 Monkeys and he is part of the bigger mythology.” Oh, and is it just me, or does it seem like Cole is totally going to end up being the precursor to the virus? He looked like he saw a ghost when he spotted those bones in the Night Room. Hmmm.

ARMS OF MINE (TV-14-L-V)

In the season finale, Cole and Railly attempt a final confrontation with their closest enemies, while Jones faces a new threat to all that she's accomplished. Guest Star Todd Stashwick.

In Paradox, Cassie and Cole find Jones in 2015 and get her involved.

I was going to post in response to the description for paradox that the person they sought out had to be 1) Young Dr. Jones or 2) whoever invented Project Splinter.   Realistically it would be Jones but I was hoping for the latter.  Project Splinter has to be underway by 2015 (something like that isn't thrown together in 2 years) and whoever invented it could be a valuable resource.

Okay, it seems that the first season would end with the "Blue Man Group" trying to destroy the time machine and prevent Cole from going back in the first place, that is to 1987, where the whole thing initiated in the first place. It's quite possible that they realized the events they themselves started by going back to the 1970s was a failure and that by getting Cole and Ramse to go forward in time to 2039 or so, they could stop the 1987 events from happening.

However, considering the alternate timeline they showed with Cole never going back, the plague hits anyway.....

From the article linked in the media thread, I thought this part was most interesting:

In a prior episode, Jones says that his paradox with his younger self means Cole can never jump back in time. Does this mean we’ll see a role reversal where Railly is the one jumping back and forth through time?

I would say you are asking all the right questions.

I like that development for season 2. Cole is in 2015 and Cassie will be the one to jump back and forth, apparently. I love that role reversal so much.

I can take anything 12 Monkeys related. — DeputyPacks
If season 1 was about fathers and season 2 was about mothers, then season 3 will be “about the next generation,” EP Terry Matalas tells me. “It’s about our children and the future. It’s also about nature versus nurture. It’s even more emotional than season 1 was, and going to get a little bit darker before there’s light.”

12 Monkeys: Christopher Lloyd joins season 3

Great Scott! Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd is heading back to the world of time travel, landing a guest-starring role on the upcoming third season of 12 Monkeys, EW has learned.

Lloyd will play Zalmon Shaw, a charming but deadly cult leader who preys upon others’ tragedies and losses in order to recruit new members into the apocalyptic cult the Army of the 12 Monkeys. Shaw is the father of the series’ most imposing villain, the enigmatic Pallid Man.

12 Monkeys adds Battlestar Galactica's James Callis in season 3

James Callis, best known for playing Dr. Gaius Baltar on the Syfy series, has landed a recurring role on the third season of 12 Monkeys, EW has learned exclusively. (To note: BSG alum Michael Hogan appeared during season 2.)

Callis will play “a highly anticipated and pivotal new character to our series’ mythology,” executive producer Terry Matalas says. Callis’ character is described as a “rebellious and enigmatic time-traveler raised throughout history by the Army of the 12 Monkeys, one whose conflicted personal and emotional path will change everything for James Cole (Aaron Stanford) and Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull).” Could Callis’ character be the Witness?!

According to Syfy, the third season finds Cole and Railly embarking on a desperate search across time to find the man responsible for the apocalypse, a time traveler who calls himself the Witness. Killing the Witness will mean saving the world, but the journey will come at tremendous personal stakes for the two and will call into question new alliances, old bonds, and the virtue of the mission itself.

12 Monkeys first look: The gang reunites for trippy '80s adventure!

Here’s the good news: Though Cassie was whisked away by the Army of the 12 Monkeys to the far-off future, she’ll reunite with the gang in 12 Monkeys season 3. Here’s the even better news: They’re all going to the ’80s — and EW has the exclusive first look!

In its third season, 12 Monkeys will take a mid-season jump back to the 1980s in its first ever comedy romp. So, what’s their plan? A heist, masterminded by Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire).

However, traveling back that far into the past means the quartet will run into some familiar faces, including late enemy — and Jennifer’s dad — Leland Goines (Željko Ivanek). The hour also features TruTV’s Impractical Jokers stars Joe Gatto and Sal Vulcano.

“This show has one of those rare casts that can have you laughing your ass off in one moment, and batting away tears the next,” executive producer Terry Matalas tells EW. “I’m really proud of this one.”

I’m so glad 12 Monkeys has been renewed! (And so sad it’ll end with season 4!) Can you tease anything more about Christopher Lloyd’s character? — Sylvie
As we already know, the Back to the Future alum is playing the father of the Pallid Man — so yes, we are going to see Pallid Boy via flashback! It’s safe to say that the apple has not fallen far from the tree. “They are both very devout in their beliefs in terrifying ways,” EP Terry Matalas says. “They’re willing to do horrible things with the kindest of smiles. Pallid Man got that from his father, and also his mother, [played by] Scottie Thompson, who we met last season, who also returns in that episode. You really get to see the Pallid family, if you will, and see there was no way that guy was going to grow up right.”

12 Monkeys goes medieval in final season first look

During its fourth and final season, the cast of 12 Monkeys will get medieval, heading to 1400s England, which is actually the origin site of the show’s entire mythology. Once they splinter back — which will be no easy feat to travel that far back in time — waiting for them is the answer to everything: The key to destroying the Witness and the Army of the 12 Monkeys forever. But it will come with a sacrifice.

“We saved the best splinter for the last,” executive producer Terry Matalas tells EW. “We wanted to send them to a darker, more dangerous time period than ever before — and there’s nothing better for that than the Middle Ages. Imagine Jennifer Goines wandering through Winterfell and you can guess the places we’ve gone with it.”

Remember back in the first season when they said it would be dangerous to splinter back to 1987 if they didn't know what they were looking for, because it would be require too much power to splinter back that far?  They must have gotten some new power supplies that are immensely more powerful.

'12 Monkeys' Season 4 Review: A Final Season That's Going Out With A Bang

Coming into its final season, Syfy’s 12 Monkeys has its work cut out for it. It has to do the impossible and give closure to a time travel story that makes sense. Thankfully, a few episodes into the final season and many will be saying, “I think they’re going to pull this off.”

From the word go, the final season of 12 Monkeys pulls no punches. In fact, it raises the bar on “going there” television. Everything matters and by the end of the season premiere audiences are going to find their jaws on the floor.
*  *  *
But while twists are good, the character work done as early as the season premiere can not go un-praised. This is especially true for the developing adventures of Emily Hampshire’s Jennifer Goines. Hampshire is given so much to work with that is really does justify those spin-off rumors we heard last year.

Not to be outdone though, everyone is given heartstring-tugging moments throughout the season that is going to leave people begging for more.

The action is on point. The drama is hard-hitting. The twists are insane. The final season of 12 Monkeys is putting the pedal to the metal and firing on all cylinders.
*  *  *
Somehow, someway, 12 Monkeys is a show that’s not going to go quietly into that good night. It’s going to go out with a flash and a bang. It’s going to go out swinging and already it's shaping up as something truly impressive to watch.

Creepy.

I posted like just 4 hours before you - over on the Spec thread - and with just a guess on my part, that we would most likely see Ramse again at least once this final season.
