I still don't understand why an MP would concern themselves with the murder of a drug dealer in MEXICO. There aren't enough murders to investigate in the US?

It was a stupid ass retcon, courtesy of the new showrunner at the time, ShaneAssHoleBrennan, who decided that instead of Gibbs killing Pedro being between Gibbs, Franks, and the audience, that every.damn.body. should know what he did. And we all, over on TWoP, and even here, ranted over the utter STOOPIDITY of it all. And it was just to set up Brennan's NCIS: LA, which was his baby. The irony being, Lombard was so awful, when the official show started, she was gone as Macy, and Hunt was there in her place as team leader.

And Harmon never liked this spin-off-aside from the back door pilot, the original and LA never existed within the same universe, so I don't see why this lameass, stoopid, makes no bloody sense plot was brought in on this show. Since they're playing fast and loose with Gibbs' and Franks' histories on this show to begin with as well.

I had thought that Gibbs was a scout sniper turned MP before NIS, maybe that came from the JAG back door pilot or the early years of the mothership before I stopped watching regularly. In that case we would have had not just any but one of her Marine cops as the prime suspect in a murder moving on to be a federal agent. And like many a fictional detective that CID officer, and the JAG officer whose case she was looking over would go after justice also.

It is a strange/hard story to tell with our hero protagonist being guilty of murder. It doesn't make him good but an anti-hero when the only reasons he operates is because the other good guys can't prove his guilt. We might as viewers see the guilt beyond a reasonable doubt of the victim, but extrajudicial killing is still murder.

No he wasn't. This was all a retcon as I stated above, because I watched ALL seasons of JAG and NCIS Mothership from Day One. Gibbs went to Mexico to avenge the murders of Shannon and Kelly. Full Stop. Period. He was not and never has been an MP.

Okay that makes the promotion storylines on the mothership make more sense as big jobs are held out for number 2 on the local murder squad when LA, Hawai'i and now Sydney have all sorts of high ranking deputies

Here is what Google has to say about Gibbs' wives.

Quote

Shannon Fielding: Gibbs's first wife, who was murdered along with their daughter Kelly.

Diane Sterling: Gibbs's second wife, who was portrayed as an IRS agent.

Stephanie Flynn: Gibbs's third ex-wife, introduced later in the series.

Rebecca Chase: Gibbs's fourth wife, introduced in season 12.

But he was, at Camp Lejune.  Per a first season episode where they found the left foot of a marine. Doctor Chalmers was the big bad in that episode.

I stand corrected. But when he was, Shannon and Kelly would have been alive. He was no longer an MP when he was in Kuwait. And he pretty much went after Pedro almost immediately after learning about their murders.

They really are. I mean, I love the show but one of Gibbs's more annoying traits was his utter contempt for therapy, and talking to therapists. Here, he's all in.

The therapist being a bad guy could've been what soured him on the whole thing.

That's what I said in last week's episode thread-that the Vet therapist turning out to be SandMan probably had Gibbs turning against therapy.

Second wife.  Shannon was the first.

Honestly I was shocked by Lala's death because I was waiting for it to happen all episode like a suicide or something as she reached the end of her rope.  But the randomness of it trying to avoid hitting a kid chasing her dog made it really sad.

Then the kicker at the end where Gibbs first meets Diane right at the same time totally surprised me.

Diane married Fournell, correct?

Yeah.  One of the best episodes was when Gibbs and Fournell had to work with Diane after both had been divorced from her.

Gibbs didn't have any problems bedding down with the therapist played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the OG. I think Gibbs just doesn't want to be analyzed by a shrink. 😉

Wasn't she more a profiler?

Ugh. So the rancid witch comes off as someone nice? Please. And what was that line at the end? That Gibbs always loved Lala? Really? When we had never heard of her, or no references made to her on the mothership, like we did with Vera and Franks? And that other marine, who Young Gibbs when he first joined and competed with--who died in Okinawa?

Oh, so now Gibbs confessed to all and sundry out loud and drunk for everyone to hear that he killed Pedro? Whatthefuckever show. I've only seen the backdoor pilot of the LA show twice, but their shrink told Gibbs that Macy decided on her very own self to bury the evidence she found or something like that-not due to any confession or whatever.

I rolled my eyes every time Macy said she needed to get justice for the drug dealing murderer.

I hated Diane with the heat of a thousand nuns. Did the Happy Dance when she finally BIT IT.

Yeah, she worked in psychological warfare/playing mind games.

Wow, this is the darkest show on TV!

Question:  are they now setting us up to find out about Franks's brother--that he is still alive?  Did anyone else think that before, or did you think he was dead?

Reminder:  I do not watch the mothership, so if that colors your answer, let me know.  I have seen a few episodes here and there but I didn't think Gibbs had a dark history like this. It always seemed like a lighter show that was not too much about the agents' personal lives.

Not surprised because on the Mothership, there was a scene with Gibbs that Franks and his brother had married the same woman. But then again, this was years before, when this show wasn't even an idea.

But like I've posted several times, this show has played fast and loose with Gibbs' backstory already, so who knows what will happen?

Yes, being someone who watched the Backdoor pilot on JAG (season 8), and from day one when it started, Gibbs was someone who was light-hearted, smiled, and joked. But we knew there was a past. In season 3's two part-finale, "Hiatus" we learned about Shannon and Kelly, and met Franks-who was a lot older when he was investigating their deaths. And from Season 4 onwards, he no longer joked or smiled as he did in the first two seasons. I blame more ShaneASSHOLEBrennan and Bellisario.

I thought the brother was dead.  Isn't that the impression we were left with during the episode where he is desperate to get his boots fixed?  I thought the implication was that his brother went to Vietnam to protect him and didn't make it back.  Clearly that was a wrong assumption.
