S03.E13: One Of Us Now

I have to agree.  Will walked into Naomi's place (or the children's care center or whatever it was) and with the fixed ukelele, and we'd never seen her before but it seemed obvious from context that at some point Will had met her and he'd offerred to fix it for her.  We didn't need a scene of them meeting or her asking him to fix the uke for her to figure that out.

I actually think we did need a scene. But it's easy to fanwank it.

They just seemed way too friendly and knowing of each other to have met a day ago imo. But there wasn't time to make it work so we just have to be like yea it makes sense for them to be at that level in 24 hours lol.

I think enough was implied that there didn’t need to a scene regarding the ukelele.

For one thing, we don’t know how long Will/Bill has been at the retreat.  I would guess that it is more that 24 hours.  The opening scene showed Will being baptized implying that he has been there long enough to be indoctrinated with Rain’s teachings and an acceptance of those teachings.  I don’t think a baptism would occur in the first couple of days.  Also, when talking with Amanda, he said it was hard to keep track of the days.  That confusion does not occur after just one day.

Secondly, because of the interaction he had with Finn (the girl with the rifle).  He was able to have her drop the rifle and share her forbidden secret (Petunia, the rabblit) even though they just met.  I think it was plausible that Naomi felt comfortable enough with Will that she would talk about her broken ukelele.

There were other scenes were that were implied.   Quincy told Will that there was something “off” with the retreat but you seem to be okay with not having a scene where Quincy witnessed whatever made him suspicious.

Frankly, this whole episode was basically a vehicle for Will to hallucinate a disco party with the rest of the cast.  And, i’m okay with that.  YMMV.

Somehow I misremembered Will's outfit as polyester and leather when in fact it was a very glammed up version of his normal suit. How have I never noticed what a banging ass he's got?

Also the first time around, I didn't catch the GBI logo in with a neon Betty in the center ❤️

I too was confused by the ukulele thing, and the fact that it's being talked about so much indicates that it's a failure on the part of the show, albeit a minor one. I remember hearing a screenwriter talk about writing and saying one thing you should try never to do is distract the audience, and he gave as an example a person bringing flowers to someone's home. If the audience doesn't see the person put the flowers in water, then they lose time thinking about them, like, "oh no, you just left the flowers on the counter, the flowers will die, my god just put the flowers in a vase!" I feel like the ukulele is kind of like that; we got distracted during the show wondering where the damn thing came from.

Yeah, I never expected the scene and seeming comfort level between Will and the woman to confuse or bother some so much.

I agree that there were significant comments and scenes to indicate that some time had passed since Will went to the commune.

Like you said, Quincy's leaving was a big indicator, since when we first met Quincy in the previous episode, he was completely snowed and had bought into the group. But in this episode, his brief exchange with Will made it clear he was freaked out and wanted to get the hell away from that place.

More importantly, when Will spoke to Amanda, she mentioned him being late with his call, making it clear they'd been regularly communicating. Also, the whole point of Will going undercover was to infiltrate the group. There was no way he was going to do that without interacting with members.
