S06.E12: Rattled

I liked that Yaya got to see the planned version.

I had bought hook line a sinker the speculation that the Sam and Tory sparring was going to be a Rocky III ending homage

The binary bros. Long ago I saw Hawk wanting not settling for Caltech while a pre Cobra Kai Eli would want to get as far away from the Valley as possible (MIT).

Ok, the German Sekai Taikai guy in a board meeting with the Valley tournament people was funny. As was him kicking the MC who's passionate about blue mats in the face.

Aw, Johnny wanted to name the baby Amanda. He and Rosa are so cute together. And then she said a near-Miyagi quote.

I feel bad for Chozen getting rejected, but then I go rewatch the scene of him threatening to kill Kumiko from Karate Kid 2 and that sympathy goes away real quick. He's lucky she even wants to be friends with him. She is an incredibly forgiving human being.

How did it take us this long to get the Binary Bros using their computer genius to improve karate training?

I'm kinda happy to hear that Sid's still alive offscreen, and that their relationship is decent enough for him to give him his mother's ring. I knew he was gonna name the baby Laura! Though I hope her middle name is Rosa.

I'm counting that as more evidence of my theory that karate forms the literal basis for law in this universe. We even had a reference to it being "the old ways" which are apparently still a valid way of settling your differences with a coworker. In most places if you kick a coworker in the chest you get arrested for assault!

The part I loved the most about that was that the center piece on the chest was a sensor from the OG 1980's Lazer Tag.

That was so over the top that it was funny. Even if you aren't arrested, the logical response should be "you can't use our facility". And a logical response to that should be, "That's fine, I can take my business elsewhere, and there are probably 100's of facilities just in California that I could use".

I think Daniel held the veto on the venue. And the rest of the board wasn't all in on the MC holding on to his microphone stopping the show.

I wonder how Sid being okay with giving that ring to Johnny came to be. Johnny did say, "he's still an asshole" so I'm guessing that Sid still ripped him for his failures while he was there. Maybe since Johnny hasn't gotten arrested for about a year and a half (in the show's timeline), Sid sees that as progress. lol

I wonder if there's an unwritten code in the Karate Kid universe that you never call the police on someone if they assault you or trespass in your home.

Like a lot of Miyagi-verse people Sid had no one else. And he did promise Laura which accounted for the initial Cobra Kai seed money and now a ring that he can do nothing else with himself.

I love how quick everyone is to throw down in the karate kid universe, its one of the most consistent things about this entire franchise. Its totally normal to solve a problem with your planning committee by kicking someone in the face, how else would we handle this?

Nice to see Tori and Sam getting along, they've really come a long way.

I love drunk Amanda! And I loved that dress!

I didn't realize we didn't see much of the kids yet. CalTech! Great work Eli.

Ah, poor Chozen. Amanda and Daniel want to go away, but Chozen has to come. Hilarity ensues. Chozen right though about crystals.

Is Winnie Elizabeth Berkeley? I'm so excited! I'm sure literally everyone here knew she was going to like Storage Wars. Also that's not actually how tarot cards work, and the death card was upside down. So, not actual death.

I like this direction they're going with for Johnny. It's kind of sad that 1983 was the last time he felt all right. Looks like they're going for the adult Tory again too.

I would be bummed if Robby died too.

I swear, there's not a Johnny montage I didn't like.

I am absolutely enjoying how all the kids are acting like adults now. I hope they keep this going. I like the show, but it's been uneven.

I'm not sure why Daniel is apprehensive about Sam going to Okinawa? Am I reading that wrong? I think he'd be thrilled.

Also, holy Bayside High cameo!

It doesn't sound like a "valley" name, but I don't know the show. I was thinking if I went off of the franchise for a cameo I would have nominated Marisa Tomei for this role, but more likely another LaRusso.

And from an 80s martial arts sports related movie Matthew Modine

I don't get how that virtual reality training would work at all.  It's still Miguel fighting Robby and not that other guy.  All the VR does it make it look like the other guy is fighting him, but he is still fighting Miguel with Miguel's skills, physical ability, and fighting style.  So he only beat an avatar of that guy.

The only thing that I can figure is without a NBA player sized sparring partner the VR fools Robby into reacting to strikes coming from the higher angle and trying to move in under Axel's probably guard.

It was just a few episodes ago when they were touring a college and the tour guide was literally tackled to the ground, unprovoked, by a student with not even a hint of repercussions.

Remember The Karate Kid and Ali with an I, in the Valley they are like the Friday Night Lights crowd in Texas with their State Championship rings and rolling around town hoping for the same for their boys. With that as the truth of the Miyagi-verse when LaRusso becoming the logo for the All-Valley and using it to promo his business, even with a recent fall off before Cobra Kai reinvigorated karate in the Valley, makes it work.

Kreese did more than intimidate landlord he off screen held the sexual abuse of a minor charge over the him. And the landlord had little chance of becoming a jail sensei instead of a victim.
