S19.E19: Behold I Come Like a Thief

Christine complaining that there were too many rules at Robyn and Meri's houses seemed a little petty.  For Robyn, she had a point about people not emptying her refrigerator without asking, but she just had such a negative tone about it.  Putting a sign on the door was pretty passive aggressive.  And she also lied about the fact that they needed to wait for someone to let them in.  She claimed they needed to do an "announcement knock" whatever that is.  As for Meri, in Vegas her house was where they hosted all their MLM stuff so she had to keep it neat and in good condition.  Some of the kids were pretty feral, so if there were rules about running around and slamming doors and such, that makes sense.  Christine's Vegas house had a lot of damage from feral kids playing too rough.

Christine would have an even bigger fit when I informed that I want actual advance notice that someone is even coming over to my house.

Christine/Janelle and Robyn/Meri clearly had polar opposite parenting styles. I don't see how this polygamous arrangement would ever work with everyone happy. I suspect most of the kids had few to no rules when Christine and Janelle were in charge, which made it impossible for Meri and then Robyn to enforce reasonable rules, never mind their more neurotic rules as well. No kid is going to want to go to Meri's house when they can stay home and do whatever they want.

Finally caught up with this. Christine is ecstatic about her new "house", which she apparently chose without David being a part of the decision. Meanwhile it's not even a "house" but at best a townhouse condo., and not a very big or nice one. Tile floor all through the main floor? Microscopic upstairs bedrooms? No thanks. I would have thought they'd she'd choose something a little bigger and nicer. Even David mentioned the small rooms. The beds barely fit in them. You couldn't even walk around them!

And she definitely shouldn't go on TV without makeup again. Yikes.

Also, the not knocking thing felt a little ridiculous. I get it that this is a different part of the country but leaving doors unlocked is just not a good idea anywhere anymore. And acting like someone is not making you feel welcome because you have to knock is equally as ridiculous. Sometimes these women live in a 30 year old dream world.

If this house is primarily a rental unit then bedroom size isn't that important as I suspect people who rent in that area do so for the location and outside activities. Tile floors probably make sense (although I would probably do LVP) in a rental home in a desert environment.  Maybe that was what fit into her budget?  I have no idea what the rental market is in Moab but I know it is a popular destination for the RV community and the offroad community.

Moab is hugely expensive.  Christine's townhouse in Moab cost almost as much as her and David's house in Salt Lake City.  Just as I was curious how Kody qualified for a $1,680,000 mortgage on his new house in Flagstaff I also am curious how Christine and David have qualified for approximately $1,200,00 in mortgages combined for their house and Moab Airbnb.  Although when I google it, it says you only need between $250,000 - 350,000 annual income to qualify for a million dollar mortgage, which I guess they could easily be making between them.

Christine bought a rental property as an investment. That's why she chose it without David. That is, she wanted to invest some of their money in an income-generating property. He trusted her with it (or it was her money to begin with), so I'm good with that. I thought they made that pretty clear on the show, but maybe I read it somewhere. Either way, I'm glad to see her earning money someway other than predatory MLMs.

As for makeup, since the dawn of the pandemic, I have made it my personal mission to subject the world to my old-ass face without makeup, whenever I please. Look. There is redness here and fine lines and wrinkles there. I have moved my face for 50+ years. I have not always used sunscreen. Shit has happened to my face, while I have lived.

Honestly though, and I say this kindly @Yeah No, because you are (truly) one of my most favorite posters in this forum. Would you have said that about a man? I actually enjoy makeup. I think it is fun. I work from home, so I mostly get to ignore it, but I use it when we go out to dinner or shopping, or whatever. However, I refuse to be ashamed of my face for being a face that has lived.

Christine gets on my last nerve.

She is A Lot.

While she is no Robyn, Christine is also no day at the beach.

But...

There is nothing wrong with Christine's face

She looks great for her age. Christine is an attractive woman. I hate to see women shamed showing their own faces.

In my opinion, it is worse than body shaming. Give a sister a break. All she did was let people see what she actually looks like. There should actually be no shame in that.

Thanks for explaining that - somehow that wasn't clear to me. The way she was gushing about it made me think it was for them to live in. I was confused. I don't know if the show explained that enough for people like me that don't always follow details like this. I did wonder because I thought we already saw them buy a place for themselves - or am I mistaken about that too? Because I just can't keep up with these people and their constant house buying, etc.

Thanks for the compliment - same here back at you! The thing is I don't know if I'd ever seen Christine not wearing makeup before this. If a man wore makeup all the time and then I suddenly saw him without it I would probably say the same thing if I felt it. I just thought she looked kind of washed out and I do know that that is one reason people, even men, usually wear some makeup on TV. The camera and the lighting washes people out a lot and makes them look much paler than in person. Even if it's just some powder and blush or bronzer a little can go a long way. The "no makeup look" is often done for TV just to counteract that washed-out effect. Some of the people we see on TV we don't think of as wearing makeup, but many of them are. Just not eye makeup or much other than powder. But I don't think Christine was even wearing that. And she normally wears makeup on TV, probably to avoid that washed-out look. So she obviously doesn't prefer to look that way on TV either. Maybe there wasn't enough time this time for her to put any on for the camera, who knows?

I've read that one of the reasons men don't normally wear makeup is because their facial skin is thicker and so they already have the  benefit of that. I'd have to agree with that to some degree depending on the person. It's certainly not about anything sexist that I commented on Christine's lack of makeup, though. It's purely an esthetic thing. Also we are much more used to seeing men without makeup. If Christine never wore it I probably wouldn't have noticed any contrast in her appearance for better or worse and wouldn't have said anything.

Christine did say she bought this second income property without David's input. She said this partly while blabbing & unpacking at the property and partly in their shared home office.

I do wonder if she has costed out all the expenses to determine the net profit rather than getting starry eyed about the potential income. Moab is 3.5 hrs away from SLC, so she must need a management company to check the place in between bookings and deal with repairs.

Owning any type of rental property takes a lot of time and money.  It's something I would not want to get into, but I'm guessing she's someone that can afford to pay a management firm, as you said.
