That photo/scene of her with the boyfriend wasn't in this episode, was it?

Yes, yes it was.

I think it happened when Amy was sleeping on Doctor Hunk's shoulder, Doctor Hunk had a memory.

Edit: I went back to do a quick look for the scene and couldn't find it, maybe it wasn't in the show, even though I would swear I saw it.

Sorry if this has been brought up:  Did anyone read "What Alice Forgot" by Liane Moriarity ("Big Little Lies")? I read it several years ago, but they are a bit similar. Alice woke up to find out that she wasn't likeable in the past and her marriage is failing.

What an obnoxious woman! Butting in when a doctor is trying to work (and why is she sharing a room?), refusing to believe that she could possibly have some kinks in her brain and that's why she can't work yet; crashing a board meeting to talk about her going back to work; assuming that she can jump back into medicine after 8 years, because medicine has been at a standstill while it waited for her return; checking on a fellow patient in ICU.

Gotta love that full head of hair coming out of that  fashionable bandage on her head, and the hospital gown that closes up completely in the back. That flashback of what looks like a teenager doing fourth grade math looked strange, especially if she's taking AP courses now. Why in the world would the boyfriend doctor allow himself to be seen at the hospital with a released patient sleeping on his shoulder?

Scott Wolf's dimples just don't look as cute on him as they once did.

Hopefully, next time, she will have lost the bandage.

I think Amy's daughter came out to her sometime in that 8-year time gap, and she wasn't supportive, and that's why they were estranged. It would explain her reluctance to talk about because how do you know Amnesia!Mom wouldn't react the same way again?

But her friend is a lesbian (married to a woman) and Amy was fine with that, and with her previous (also female) partner. It doesn't seem like she'd be bothered by her daughter being not straight if she's totally fine with her best friend.

I want to like this a lot more than I do, but right now it’s missing something, I don’t know what. Hopefully it settles as it goes on.

Currently, Larsen’s relationship with her best friend is still the only one I really buy. Maybe it’s because they have the most personal scenes together, but their friendship comes off as really genuine. Especially when Larsen lashed out. Felt like the kind of back and forth you’d have with someone who knows you well enough to both call you on your BS and stick around. Right now there’s a lot of focus on Gina supporting Larsen, which makes sense, but I want to see some reciprocity down the line. That second marriage line was interesting and I thought they were going to discuss it, but right now the show seems focused on revealing memories about Larsen & her family and even then, only when it suits the plot. I know that’s a typical TV thing but because of the sometimes heavy handed writing, it feels a lot more obvious here.

I do like that they’re keeping some of Larsen’s prickliness though. She’s a lot more patient this time around, but still rough around the edges.

I'm curious about how the son died

In the pilot Gina says that his heart gave out on a school trip because his arrhythmia was a lot more serious than diagnosed.

Given how much Larsen changed after her son’s death, it seems she was blinded by grief and anger, and in an effort to cope, neglected the child that was still alive in favour of becoming a cold and sometimes cruel workaholic. Her husband said that the grief tore them apart and she ended things. Romantic relationships differ from friendships but I’m assuming the only reason her close friendship seems to have lasted because is Gina put in the effort. Because Larsen doesn’t seem like one to go out of her way and has little to no personal life outside of Gina and the boyfriend. I wonder how they even got together since she was work focused and had little regard for others back then.

Good point. OTOH some people that believe they are open minded can do a 180 when it comes to their own kids.

The flashback implied that she started icing her daughter out on something the ex believed “she’ll come around on.” So it must have been something big.

Gina was the one that convinced Amy to get out of bed and go back to work after her son's death. It seems like they have been friends for a very long time.

I can't decide how I feel about this show. I liked the first ep, but was less sure about this one. It feels like it has a limited shelf life, though maybe that's the idea, that's a limited series? I was wondering what exactly would happen when she was discharged in terms of plot, so if they're finding some way to keep her working, even if it's just ostensibly to avoid a lawsuit, that would make sense and keep her among the other characters.

It does seem like they could use her to consult on difficult cases, if nothing else. Sort of like House, in a way. I think they'd need more time to see her capabilities and shortcomings before they could really put her in charge of a case. I think they were giving her an antiseizure med when they were going to discharge her. I imagine that would be a concern, that she could have a seizure. So would it really be safe for her to go right home? If nothing else, I'd think they'd send her to a medical rehab facility first.

Maybe the son's arrhythmia was not properly understood because of a mistake on the part of the diagnostician, and that is why she's so angry and uptight and lashing out before the head injury supposedly reset her?

I had forgotten about them telling us that part of the story, though, so thank you for reminding me of how he died.

I don’t think there’s a big story behind her estrangement with her daughter. From what we saw she became angry and distant. Her daughter pushed back, and it caused fights. I think the daughter and ex thought she would come around back to how she used to be (she looked at me like she used to from the pilot), and she never did.

I’m enjoying this show. Maybe I’ve just been around bad doctors, but I don’t think she was that bad. She was blunt, harsh, and exacting but so? She wasn’t wrong. I get why she wouldn’t be a favorite, but so many complaints a good doctor, the former chief, can’t work there anymore? I’m just not seeing it.

Gina is a good friend, but I think it’s weird how hands off everyone is being. She reaches out and they tell her to go stare at the wall. Is it any wonder, even given what little we know of her, that this woman is being a pain? Last time she buried herself in work. Now she has nothing. Give her something to do. She’s eight years behind on medical knowledge. Give her some medical journals. Instead she just sits there.

She obviously feels abandoned even if she understands that it was her fault. Her two week memory made me sad. I don’t think she was trying to bring up romance; she was just trying to make him understand. Gina is the only one who seems to get it at all.

I like that even now she’s still a little on the prickly side. Makes what they’re telling us more believable. Boyfriend needs to be more honest though. He doesn’t need to tell her they were together, but he does that they were close. He was apparently her guy, professionally. He’s the only one besides Gina who’s not keeping her at a distance. So be her friend, honestly.

A coherent storyline?  What did they say?  It had been a few days since her accident and major brain surgery, and not only is she up and about, but in her mind, she's totally ready to return to work!  Even if she's the best doctor in the world, that's just crazy.

I'm rather dreading the Hallmark ending trope where she always corrects her mistake and saves the patient at the last moment.  The always perfect, never wrong doctor thing wears thin in a hurry.

Amy needs to stay home and decompress a bit.  And change that dressing!  I bet those clothes are a bit ripe too.  And finally, I wonder if Simone's date is still hanging out at the bar, waiting for her to come back.  😉
