Tachi Rocinante December 11 Share December 11 This show hasn't quite figured out how to balance/transition serious adventure and cutesy fun yet - it gets jarring. The scene with the parents was horribly acted, and some of the alien makeup and masks look like they're 30 years old. Still, I am interested in seeing where the story goes. The moms were in denial and they also have lived on this sealed off planet their whole lives thinking the safety droids would always find them. Once they found out they went behind the Barrier they realized how much danger their kids were in. Wim's dad I feel had a lot of guilt. I think the masks are deliberately meant to be like old fashioned, handcrafted looking sci fi/ fantasy movies of the 80s. I like Jude Law and the kids interaction. Sarah 103 December 11 Share December 11 At first, I thought the initial 10 minutes were stupid, where the kids made Jod go back for SM33. However, I realized this is probably setting up his story arc and the start of how far is willing to go for these kids/what is willing to do for these kids. I think Jod is a force-user but not a fully or partially trained Jedi. If he isn't, they will have to explain the trick with the key. Seeing Fern and Wim in the gun turrets firing away was fantastic. They looked like they were having the best time. It's living out the fantasy of so many audience members who wanted to in that position on the Falcon shooting down the Tie-Fighters. thuganomics85 December 11 Share December 11 Will never not enjoy the appearance from a Battle Droid: no matter how brief. I really love those little guys. Roger Roger! Not sure what to make of Jod Na, outside of thinking he will end up being on the side of good at the end. Despite his snark and sneaky behavior, you can already tell he cares enough about the kids to try and not put them in danger, and is even willing to do just follow their orders/suggestions instead of just trying to always push back since he's an adult. Right now, I'm thinking his Force Powers are legit, but he was never an actual Jedi. I'm sure we'll get some form of backstory soon. Jude Law seems to be having a blast here. Kh'ymm was a fun character. Hope we see her again. Interesting random note about the credits: I noticed Jude Law is always first, but that they flip around the order of the 4 main kid performers each episode. I wonder if that was done in order to not make one or another feel more significant and make it feel more like equal credit instead. Or maybe it's whichever kid character has more screen time that episode since it was the KB actress that was first this go around and she seemed to have more screen time this go around, due to the character's exchanges wtih Jod Na. Continuing to warm up to the show. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151044-s01e03-very-interesting-as-an-astrogration-problem/#findComment-8530275
Morrigan2575 December 11 Share December 11 (edited) I can't tell if it's Parlor Tricks or if Crimson Jack (I like that name) is a Force Wielder...it would be cool if we finally got a life action Force Wielding non Jedi (even Ahsoka and Grogu were trained to be Jedi). To be fair i also thought the whole thing was a Con cooked up by Silvo and the Pirates but them putting out a reward looking for him after he escaped as well as the Bounty being placed makes me think Silvo is acting on his own. I liked Kh'ymm, hopefully we see her again Likerd the backstory on Atatin/Old Republic, still waiting to find out the rest but, I did find it interesting that even Fern's Mother who seemed to be a higher up was in the dark. I wonder if this whole planet is now run by Droids, similar tthe Axiom in Wall-e with Auto hiding the truth for generations. If we go by Jude Law’s actual age (51), he would have been late teens to mid twenties when Order 66 happened. (Figuring we’re about 10ABY now.) So he could have been an older Padawan. Survived the Clone War and purge, maybe turned away from The Force, flirted with the Dark Side. Living in the gray areas off the universe. I could see this pulling him back to the Light. Or he’s just some force sensitive schmuck the order missed in the lead up to the CW. I guess that’s why we watch the show. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151044-s01e03-very-interesting-as-an-astrogration-problem/#findComment-8530779
Orbert December 12 Share December 12 So her name is pronounced "Kim" but if you gave me a million dollars and a week, I never would have guessed that it's spelled "Kh'ymm". Thank The Force for closed captions! I've seen some grumbling elsewhere about how short the episodes are. In the old days, dramas were usually an hour, and sitcoms and most family-friendly shows were half an hour. Since this show seems to be aimed more for kids, or at least more family-friendly, half an hour seems right. Also, no commercials. I'm not sure how many younglings have the attention span to sit for an hour with no breaks (although I suppose you can always pause). Another pretty good episode. It looks like At Attin is going to turn out as many had guessed; a planet that was purposefully hidden, left off the star maps, for reasons not yet known to us. In the meantime, legends have already cropped up about it being a treasure planet, etc. I like how they're letting it unfold a little at a time. So who/what is KB? Is she some kind of enhanced human, maybe part droid or something? 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151044-s01e03-very-interesting-as-an-astrogration-problem/#findComment-8531108

I'll be honest when you watch the show with commercials it actually feels/is longer. Before I used to complain because they were 28-30 minutes long at best but, with the commercials it's longer more like watching a sitcom on regular TV Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151044-s01e03-very-interesting-as-an-astrogration-problem/#findComment-8531160
tennisgurl December 12 Share December 12 (edited) I continue to find this show really charming, Jude Law has a nice dynamic with the kids and I am still intrigued by the mystery of At Attin. Are they a High Republic planet that its been in isolation for so long that no one even remembers they really existed after so much upheaval? I wonder if there really is anyone in charge, or if its all run by androids following orders and the people who first isolated the planet are gone? I think that Jod really does have force powers, but either he was never found by the Jedi Order (or the Empire) and just did his own thing, or he gave up on the Jedi after Order 66, I think his powers are legit even if his Jedi cred isn't. I think it would be cool to meet someone with force powers who has never had any training on either the light or dark side. I liked Kh'ymm the owl/cat lady, she was fun and I hope we see more of her. That's more or less what I think at this point. He is a legitimate force user and has the power/the ability to control it. However, I do not think he is an actual Jedi. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151044-s01e03-very-interesting-as-an-astrogration-problem/#findComment-8531837

Her parents mention that they have lost the signal to her "life monitor" which I assume is that piece of hardware on her head. If they don't explain it beyond this, I will assume it's something she has as a result of an accident or a health condition. But since it seems to be useful in various ways, I would imagine we'll hear more about it sooner or later. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151044-s01e03-very-interesting-as-an-astrogration-problem/#findComment-8532435
Orbert December 14 Share December 14 I caught the "life monitor" mention, but it seemed deliberately obscure, tossed out there among all the other remarks by the concerned parents. They're presenting things they know we'll have questions about, but filling in the answers a little at a time to keeps things interesting. Similarly, Jod never said he was a Jedi, he just never denied it. We've seen that he has some (apparent) Force power, and for now, that's all we have. Keep up the mystery, keep people watching. If not human, she's a close human analogue, but besides her cybernetic enhancements, she's also got that white hair that suggests she could be something else, given that white hair is pretty rare (albeit not impossible) in actual young humans. That said, the previous character we know with cybernetic enhancements, Lobot, is clearly identified as human in Star Wars lore. Jod himself could only majorly profit by selling the planet's location (a significant reward for the kids being returned is a pipe dream, especially after seeing how regimented that society is). We could have a moral crisis where he decides if he's going to do that. There could also be a plot with them accidentally leading pirates to the planet. Finally... the planet leadership could turn out to be overt heavies, trying to bury the whole thing once they return. At minimum wiping out Jod (and the kids may feel compelled to save him by that point). At maximum, wiping out anyone with detailed knowledge of outside (so the kids too, and possibly the parents). Orbert December 16 Share December 16 It does seem like the pirate angle is going to be a big part of the story, at least this season. The reunion of Brutus and (we think) his former captain should be fun. Ilovepie December 16 Share December 16 I am loving this show - tonally, it doesn't feel much like Star Wars, but it is getting me in my Gen X feels - The Goonies, Stranger Things, Treasure Planet, all of it. Feels familiar and new at the same time. The kids are well cast and Jude Law is just as yummy as always. I did not like Ashoka or Acolyte, so I am happy this one is interesting to me so far. Not all of these D+ shows have been good, but I do love that Disney is taking some chances and making some new content that goes somewhere new in the Star Wars Universe.
