Best and Worst Moments From the 2025 Golden Globes
From Nikki Glaser’s monologue and wins for “Emilia Pérez” and “The Brutalist,” it was downhill to all those pharmaceutical ads.

Nice to see they mentioned the wonky camera work in the second article, especially the closeups

GGs want Nikki back. I concur.

“We absolutely had a great experience with her, and think that she would be great at this in the long term,” executive producer Glenn Weiss told Variety.

They take a parting shot at Jo Koy:

And when you have a host that’s that prepared and that dedicated and also not tone deaf, listening to what’s going on in our business and even in the room on the fly, she’s really good at this.

I can. There are some actors (think The Rock, Vin Diesel, and even Harrison Ford, etc) that you can't imagine being able to put themselves into more complex, nuanced roles. Maybe they can, maybe they can't, but they make money in their little niches.

Have you watched Shrinking?  Harrison Ford has been showing his acting chops, especially in season two.

The way you wrote it sounded like you were saying people were better at sitting through 3-hours in the past but The Brutalist has one because nowadays people can’t do it.

Some recent 3 hour+ films: Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, Avengers: Endgame

Yes, I see your point about  my post. I don't  know what the heck I meant now! I think it was a "Get off my lawn!" moment!

I know I watched "Oppenheimer" and knew Cillian would win the Oscar!

I'm no Seth Rogen fan, and haven't seen him in years so was shocked at how old he looked.  His bit with Catherine O'Hara was by far the highlight of the evening in terms of the presenters.

I knew "The Brutalist" and Adrien Brody were going to win, because it's a holocaust movie.  I was rooting for Ralph Fiennes and "Conclave", perhaps Fiennes can pull off a surprise at the Oscars.

Demi Moore!  Fantastic win over the favorites Mikey Madison and Karla Sofia Gascon.  She gave an amazing speech, I hope that helps carry her to a win at the Oscars.

The drama actress category was stacked.  I don't know anything about the lady who won but I do remember her mother in "Central Station", and felt very old.  If she can beat out four Oscar winners, she must have something going for her.

After Demi won, I bet Pamela Anderson was thinking nostalgia/comeback would also lead her to a win, but it wasn't meant to be.  I know she has been doing the "no makeup" thing recently, but I get it by now.  It wouldn't have hurt her to put on a little eye makeup, without it she just looked incredibly tired to me.

I've never been a fan of Adrien Brody ever since he assaulted Halle Berry, and I didn't care for him kind of copying Demi Moore by saying something like "I never thought I'd get another chance again".  He already has an Oscar, it just rang very hollow to me.

Just goes to show how much opinions can differ on the same thing. I LOATHED Seth Rogen's puerile vulgarity and thought he and Melissa McCarthy's dress were the evening's low-lights!

I would not put Harrison Ford in the same category as Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson. Vin and Dwayne are pretty one-dimensional actors but do great in certain types of films. While Harrison has done his share of popcorn movies, I think he's a very underrated actor. He has a natural acting ability and has convincingly portrayed a variety of complex characters, like Rusty Sabich in Presumed Innocent, Allie Fox in The Mosquito Coast, John Book in Witness, and Henry Turner in Regarding Henry. Even his Han Solo and Indiana Jones are distinctly different (imo).

Golden Globes Draws 10.1 Million Viewers, Eyes Possible 5-Year High

Sunday evening’s Nikki Glaser-hosted telecast averaged 10.1 million viewers opposite a well-watched Sunday Night Football season finale on NBC.

Thing is, with CBS and Nielsen still embroiled in a contract dispute — and the above tally bering furnished by <checks notes> VideoAmp Overnight Data — it’s “apples and pears,” so we cannot yet declare any year-over-year growth.

But if the eventual number from Nielsen winds up being anywhere north of 9.4 million viewers, that’d mark a gain versus 2024.

Some of Nikki’s jokes that didn’t make it on air:

Quote

• “I saw ‘Joker 2’ and, you know, it reminded me of when the first Joker came out and I was in the theaters and I was afraid someone was going to shoot it up. And then during ‘Joker 2,’ I was really hoping they would.”

• “Glen Powell is nominated tonight for Hit Man. Who would have thought that by the end of the year, you’d only be the second hottest hit man in America.”

• “If Adrian Brody could go back in time, he would thank baby Hitler for his career.”

• “Amy Adams is nominated for her performance in Night Bitch, while I was totally snubbed for my performance in ‘Day Slut.”

• “The Wild Robot is nominated tonight. And by that, I mean Nicole Kidman after two white wines.”

• “Denzel Washington is here. The only thing that has convinced more middle aged men they could pull off an earring than Denzel Washington is cocaine. Kate Winslet is a lot like cocaine. She’s white. She’s always with Leonard DiCaprio, and I can’t wait to find her at the after party tonight.”

• “Daniel Craig is nominated for his performance in Queer, which is a movie and not just what my uncle Chuckie calls Wicked.”

• “Nicolas Cage is here tonight looking well-rested after a night of sleeping in Elvis’s coffin.”

• “Michael Keaton was so great in Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice and Alec Baldwin, sadly, did not come back to play a ghost because he was too busy making them.”

• “The film Anora is nominated for four awards tonight. It’s been called the most unflinching look at sex work since Matt Gaetz’s payment history.”

• “Squid Games is a show where people starve themselves while ruthlessly competing for the ultimate prize. Oh, wait, no, sorry that’s this show.”

I would have loved for the Amy Adams, Anora and Squid Game jokes to have made the cut. They’re funny enough to be in line with the jokes that did make it on air.

On the article itself, Nikki actually explains why she cut some of the jokes. Part of them she wasn’t sure how it would land, if it would have been understood, etc. But I do appreciate her having enough self-awareness to not retraumatize Alec Baldwin again.

Golden Globes Audience on Par With 2024’s 4-Year High (Updated)
By Matt Webb Mitovich   January 7, 2025

The Nielsen numbers are now in, and Sunday evening’s Nikki Glaser-hosted telecast averaged 9.3 million total viewers, down just 2% from last year’s four-year high.

This year’s Globes were similarly steady in the 18-49 demo (with a 1.8 rating), and in fact saw gains with the 25-54 crowd (up 3%, to a 2.3 rating).

CBS on Monday afternoon had reported an audience of 10.1 million viewers (opposite a well-watched Sunday Night Football season finale on NBC), though with the Eye Network and Nielsen still embroiled in a contract dispute, that tally was furnished by <checks notes> VideoAmp Overnight Data, so any year-over-year growth was not quite measurable. Until now.
