Thanks.

I notice the Duke is gone (from the title and the show) Makes me sad. I always liked the chemistry between the actors. Alas. The show went with the will they won't they crap which inevitably ends in disappointment.

I wish they had gone with the "unconventional married couple of the 1880's that works together and solves crimes."  There would have been plenty of conflict. 

Anywho ... I will watch to see what's the what.

It was the actor who decided to leave the show. Maybe that will be for the best.

He probably left the show because they had written themselves into a corner concerning Eliza's and William's future relationship. Especially after they had the character Arabella say that Eliza will NEVER be the woman William wants her to be. So where were they going to go from there? The actor knew he'd be playing the same ole schtict so he opted to move along.

Actually, I think he got a role on another show (can't remember which) and the filming is in another country.

Stuart Martin is in Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver.

It might've been a combination of both having another project and hitting a dead end with his character. I recall reading something about him saying that William and Eliza were at the point where they either become a bickering married couple or got together and then got pulled apart.

yeah and they've got two kids. he probably doesn't want to be away for long periods of time.

It's too bad. There was SO MUCH potential in those two!

I liked the first episode of the season. 

I like that the new detective is competent.  I also like that his position against private detectives is due to poor experiences with them more than just not wanting to work with them or Eliza. 

I'm happy that Nash is back.  I loved their last scene together and how quickly he understood what the Duke had asked of him.

This was a good episode, a nice way to introduce the new detective.  And I like that he is competent, was actually a few steps ahead of Eliza, but that she still had some information he didn't have.  Now that "and the Duke" isn't an integral part of the show, I'm hoping that we can have a few episodes where the police department really isn't involved.  Just Eliza doing her PI thing, hired by a real client, not given scraps by the police dept.  

I like how they're integrating Nash into this season.  Of course he's able to use the warden's office at his whim and have guests.  And I like that there isn't the "oh, it's disgraceful for a woman to be visiting a man in jail" type talk, that she just goes there and it is what it is.  I like that Nash and Eliza are intellectual equals.  I'm hoping that he gets released at some point, maybe gets early release for helping to solve a case or something like that.

I signed up for PBS through Amazon Prime recently and the first two episodes are available. This happened last year as well. I watched the entire season before it was airing on PBS last year and hoping for the same this year. 

I watched the first episode and thought it was quite good, surprisingly so. I wasn’t planning to watch this show anymore but couldn’t resist checking out the first episode. If the quality holds I’ll stick with it. The new inspector is a strong character and I liked how he interacted with Miss Scarlet. 

I don’t love how the Duke was written out but I understand the actor’s choices. The show shouldn’t have dragged out the will they/won’t they stuff. But a common TV tendency I think.

Very good return episode. I love Eliza and Nash together. Their easy chemistry is calming and kind of adorable.  I also like the new guy. Completely differently looks and vibe from the Duke, which is smart of them to do.

I see no point in bemoaning the end of the Duke character. The actor left and they had two choices - recast the character, which would have led to a lot of complaining that the new actor doesn't compare, blah, blah, or cast a new character, leading to a fresh start.

I like the way this show does non-linear narrative.

I didn't find it slow.  I miss The Duke but enjoyed the new character.

Speaking of William - so the letter he wrote was to tell Eliza about his promotion and to ask her to come to America and marry him? But the reason she can't is because if she marries him in America -- she can't be a private detective?

Hm? Seems like America is the perfect place for a new fangled power couple! It would have been more accepted than in London ? right? (A husband and wife working) Though I can see that Eliza doesn't want to uproot her entire life for William.  (I always felt he loved her more than she loved him)

Anyway - I can buy Nash getting to use the the warden's office during the first meeting with Eliza. But later -- way late at night --- seemed a little too convenient. (I was rolling my eyes) but I like Nash and Eliza so I went with it.

I am withholding my opinion on the new dude. I liked the way the the show did their first meeting but told us about it in reverse. My only issue? The kid. It implies there is a wife somewhere -- dead or runaway/missing. 

But otherwise -- a good start!

I think the issue is the same as in London, she marries him she can't have her career. Maybe he even mentioned she should settle down and be a wife and mother? 

I think the wife is dead.

I figure in America it was easier to break the norms. But it's a good excuse to keep Eliza in London.

Being a detective show- I thought maybe the 'wife' is mysteriously missing or has run away (for whatever reason) and it will be a future episode trying to solve the riddle of what really happened to wifey. <<pure speculation.

I know the series has already aired.  But I do not know how it all played out.

I liked it! The new inspector is sharp and far less indulgent of Eliza. I appreciate the slightly different dynamic from the one she had with the Duke. 

Loved Nash and Eliza together. Their friendship is sweet, and I think it's good for both of them. Not at all surprised that Nash has special privileges in prison-LOL. Hopefully, he and Eliza can work together again once he's out.
