T.K. gets a huge surprise on his 30th birthday when his stepdad and young half-brother arrive in Austin. Tommy is determined to push through her latest crisis. The 126 must perform a dangerous surgery after a man is impaled in a tree.

Airs: Mon, Nov 11, 2024

Are they deliberately trying to make us glad the show is ending? I don't get it. Maybe they saw the turn 9-1-1 took when it moved over to ABC and decided to follow suit by amping up the drama.

That whole story about Tommy being a superwoman right after having a lumpectomy really pissed me off.  It just doesn't work like that.

I don't even think you can schedule surgery "for tomorrow." I also don't know if Tommy actually has the authority to just appoint an acting PIC while she's on leave.

Did we know TK had a stepfather he was still close to? I don't recall him ever being mentioned before. Or why Owen was absent from his life for 10 years.

I think in the first or second season, Gwen said she had been married to Enzo for 15(?) years?

My main questions were: 1) Who were all those people at TK's party?  Neither he nor Carlos have ever been shown to have friends outside the main cast.  2) Who was paying for that party?  It looked expensive!

The whole plot with Enzo seemed so perfunctory, I can only imagine the purpose of it was to dump TK's younger brother onto TK and Carlos to cause friction, because Carlos was very explicit about not wanting children. (Since they didn't even try to introduce the idea that Enzo didn't do it, I presume he's going to prison.) And God forbid they show a character who truly doesn't want to have children and sticks to it and is happy and fulfilled.

I wondered the same thing. Who are all these partiers? And damn, who hires caterers like that for a birthday party?

This season has been bizarre and has felt really off.

9-1-1 has had more good moments this season than last, and is definitely a notch or two above this one, but yeah, it's gotten a bit soapier than I ideally like.

On the shallow end, Carlos looked stupid in that giant stetson. It made him look short. Must they remind us at every moment that he's now a Texas Ranger?

That, and Tommy relying so heavily on Nancy made me realize how insular these characters are.  I get that Nancy was initially the only person who knew the diagnosis Tommy was trying to hide, but really.  I guess without Grace, Tommy has no other friends or family to support her?  Even the 911 call, which, of course, went to Wyatt, who just informs the girls and Tommy that he will inform his father as to what happened.  No asking Tommy if she wants her private medical info shared, it's just done.

Tommy as superwoman storyline is indeed stupid and offputting.  I get that a lumpectomy is usually an outpatient procedure and all, but there's still torn tissue/stitches that need to heal.  And scheduling surgery 'for tomorrow' only happens when it's either -a- an out & out emergency & death is imminent, or -b- the surgeon has a cancelation, or -c- both.

Enzo & the halfbrother*  -even if mentioned in previous seasons- means nothing to the audience.  We've got no emotional connection to them, so they feel so shoe-horned.  If the purpose is to create friction between TK & Carlos over children, there have to be better ways to do that.

I've grown to dislike Owen with great intensity over the series.  Even so, TK's "if you don't make nice to Enzo, don't come to my party" to him made TK sound like a child.  All that was missing was a stomped foot and a whirl-around as he walked off.

* potential new name for my imaginary band.

All these years later and the kids playing the twins still creep me out.

I think they were played by different twins in the earlier seasons. That's when they really creeped me out. If not, maybe it's just now they're older and being given more dialogue I don't find them as creepy.

I can't stand Owen, but that has no bearing on how I feel about TK's proclamation. He was right. If Owen can't act like an adult and be in the same place with another adult to whom he is not related and to whom his EX-WIFE was married YEARS after he was married to her, then no, he can't come to the party. My mother acts like an entire ass when she's at any function my birth father attends. They divorced in 1980(!!!). At some point, you need to grow tf up and stop letting people's existence, which has no actual affect on your life, bother you.

I was unclear.  You are 100% correct, insofar as TK and what he said.  It was how Ronenstein played it that irked me.

Is the half-brother the baby that they thought might be Owen's when Dr. Cuddy was in Texas for a hot minute?

And a thousand times yes to this. Makes this child-free-by-choice-and-happy person want to cut a bitch when shows do this.

The surgeon did say she had a cancellation 'tomorrow', or else the next date was weeks away. In this universe that's practically documentary level reality, lol.

This episode just reminded me how much I miss Grace and Sierra McClain.

There's no version of this universe where Grace learns Tommy has breast cancer and doesn't move heaven and earth to get home.

Has this show taped the finale? If not, they need to go to McClain and beg her to come back. Give her ALL the money and let her help end this show with some dignity.

What is going on with this show? Are they deliberately trying to be embarrassingly bad so that we're happy when it ends? We hardly have any episodes left, and they want to waste our time with some drama involving these new family members we know nothing about? Tommy being superwoman even while having cancer? More possibly relationship drama between TK and Carlos with this cute little half brother?

So in trying to keep any drama away from her kids in regards to her cancer, they found out that she has cancer in the most traumatic way possible. Great job Tommy.

It was bad enough that Grace left her family with a young daughter, a husband recently retired early and a step son dealing with a new long term injury, but now one of her best friends gets cancer and still nothing?

Owen can be so pouty, just be nice to this guy for five seconds instead of being petty.

I'm not imagining that the show used to actually be better than this, right?

I’ve asked this in Original Recipe 911 too, but does the AFD not have a floater pool of people to fill in when people are absent due to accident, injury, illness, or just want a day off? Do Captains really need to arrange their own substitute, even while sitting in the hospital? There are people who have meet the requirements to be captains and lieutenants out there. Nancy does not appear to be one of them.
