snarts October 22 Share October 22 (edited) Quote An argument about splitting the bill puts Chef Cloyce on the outs until he bonds with the boys and finds his place in the crew; the deck team struggles during a tender lesson; a severe sail causes bottles of liquor to crash all over the boat. Aired 10.21.2024' Apparently, Bravo's given up on episode titles... Cloyce is a solid red flag. Not saying he's an incel but I'm getting vibes. WTF is he thinking joining their excursion in street clothes like he's an invited guest? Why does Gary act surprised that he's expected to train his deck team? That's your job, bud. Who sleeps nekkid with their captain in the bunk adjacent? Apparently Davide. Imagine if he had to get up in the night. Poor Glenn. Edited October 22 by snarts 4 2 Link to comment
Mindthinkr October 22 Share October 22 It’s obvious that the Captain was not happy he left the galley to cavort with the guests. Yes he left salads and some premade lunch, but for all that cash I’d like something hot or fresh. Even the stew wasn’t happy he was pouring wine at the floating island. Actually that looked like a great spot to park. Not too deep, cave adjacent and crystal clear water. Cloyce may be a talented chef, but he lacks the maturity for this job. Of course it may be the editing monkeys and he will turn around and serve Michelin quality food for the rest of the season. 1 1 Link to comment
Mr. Miner October 22 Share October 22 (edited) My guide said the title of this episode was “Let The Bottles Hit The Floor”. Rough seas ahead for Emma the deckhand. Edited October 22 by Mr. Miner 2 Link to comment
iMonrey October 22 Share October 22 At this point I predict it's the chef who ends up getting fired. I'm really disappointed the Watch What Crappens guys aren't covering this season. Their hilarious recaps are the only reason I still watch the Below Deck shows. 2 Link to comment
aghst October 22 Share October 22 It seems like the early episodes of the season are to seed potential firings. They're doing it with Cloyce and Emma in this episode. The editors choose to put in footage that puts particular cast members in a bad light because you always have to have firing drama, don't you, or it wouldn't be BD. Glen getting mad, you heard his voice being raised -- "get him back now!" -- but you didn't see his face so that could have been dubbed over in post. He's usually even-keeled, doesn't have a volatile temper. In any event, it's not a side he'd want to show right away to guests or even crew. In fact he said earlier in the episode that he didn't want to speak to Cloyce about the delay in the deserts and other service problems, said Daisy should talk to him first then he would talk to him later, give him a chance to improve. The two junior stews don't like to clean cabins. Surely they were told that would be among their duties? On real charters, we've heard that they have much bigger crews, for instance more than one chef dedicated to preparing meals. So maybe these two junior stews were used to yachts where there were dedicated stews for housekeeping and service and they both wanted to do the latter. Either that or they are entitled, since there are only 3 of them and the chief stew never does the grunt work like housekeeping or laundry, spend more time interfacing with the guests. 2 Link to comment
Red Bridey October 22 Share October 22 Cloyce is kinda dumb, even though he has a very high opinion of himself. He doesn't seem to realize that he only picks up the cheque once and then...other crewmates...pick up the cheque in the future. If he doesn't drink as much as the rest of the crew (which, that's a good thing), it keeps his bill lower and all the future tabs too. Grow the hell up! Emma seems to be a little incompetent at her job, maybe all of them, because she certainly has done them all! Bored with Stew attitude. Shut up and make the beds. Do a beautiful tablescape, but do it fast! There doesn't appear to be any laundry shenanigans, thank heavens! These guests seem pretty nice and normal. Nice change! 4 1 Link to comment

The final straw with a friend of mine was over a bill. (I had been helping her for years. Ex: Lived 6 months in my apartment rent free.) There were 12 of us for lunch on vacation and I got handed the bill. 1988. Bill was $102. 10 bucks a piece. EZ. Well she and her dweeb boyfriend decided they didn't drink as much and each only gave up $8. Me and 3 others each threw in $1 . Never spoke to her again. Chef could get fired, but I could also see him having enough of Daisy, handing her the spoon and saying "You do it. I quit." and pack his stuff and walk. He's quite erratic. I understand Glenn being pissed, but we'll have to see how lunch comes out. If he had it all covered, why not take a break. Did these stews have no clue housekeeping was part of the job? Still can't tell them apart. Gary is always a jerk, but Daisy is no prize either. I don't think a real yacht would hire deckhands who can't drive a tender. SMH. Emma seems to try, but just doesn't get it. Davide is very odd. Keith is smart to not hook up with what's-her-name. He should stay strong, but I can see her jumping his bones when he's drinking. 2 Link to comment
aghst October 22 Share October 22 I can understand Cloyce's POV. Drinks are not cheap so he is paying for others. Plus it's mandatory to go out and production chooses the places, since they have to clear it for filming. Someone said he gets paid more than others as chef so he must get money in addition to the tips. But he has an actual skill that is a key part of the "tips." For the show it's important because they show a lot of what's going on in the kitchen and at the dining table. So the chef has a big role on the show. I can see rotating the checks if going out on dinners and drinks was something he enjoyed or wanted to do. But if he's being forced to go, he has valid point. 4 2 Link to comment
meep.meep October 22 Share October 22 Unless it was explained to him ahead of time, he's right to get riled. However, this is the point for Daisy or Gary to show some leadership, handle the bill this time, and let Cloyce know he could do the same next time. Growing up we lived next door to a family with two girls named Joyce and Loyce. Cloyce is even weirder. 2 Link to comment

Gramdma Doyce had an older brother Cloyce. (They pronounced it like clo-iss) Born 1914 in NE Louisiana in the middle of nowhere on a 40 acre farm a mile from the nearest neighbor. As soon as he could he packed up and moved to Albuquerque. Called himself John😎 1 3 Link to comment
meep.meep October 22 Share October 22 Bless his heart. Was Grandma Do-iss? Clo-iss sounds better than Cloyce. 1 Link to comment
PaperTree October 23 Share October 23 Strangely enough, hers was pronounced correctly, like a normal Joyce, but with a "D" Link to comment

I've known a Cloyce Clark for almost 60 years. What sounds odd to me was a boy I knew in high school, Cloyd Pfauffman. We decided he was too cute to be a Cloyd, so we named him CODY! I think his objection is that he will always (ALWAYS) come out on the short end of the stick with the heavy drinking that goes on when they're out together. He will never pay equally; he should just play along and consider it another life lesson. I don't drink, but when we went out with a group, someone always reminded the group that my share of the bill should be less when we split the bill equally. I never had to speak up and I appreciated it. We also knew whom to gossip about ... those who ordered EXPENSIVE entrees, wine, drinks, etc. and paid so much less than their share--only when with a group. 5 hours ago, PaperTree said: Gary is always a jerk, but Daisy is no prize either. This HAD to be a Production set-up. If Daisy keeps smoking, she'll be able to sing bass in a barbershop quartet. 2 4 Link to comment

Cloyce is very intelligent, but that doesn't give him the ability to get along with others or use common sense. Sadly, he was very successful intellectually in his early life and in school. It gave him a type of confidence that's off-putting. I don't think he'll ever get it. His family must have bragged about his accomplishments, but didn't teach him about humility and playing with others. 3 1 Link to comment
SemiCharmedLife October 23 Share October 23 I really liked the idea of the floating party, or whatever they called it. The location was fantastic. Gary finally did something right, in my eyes. I would have loved to spend an afternoon there with my besties. 9 Link to comment

As long as I had had a big breakfast and there were drinks and snacks available. No need for lunch! 3 2 Link to comment

gaPeach October 23 Share October 23 I loved the spot they found for the floating party. I would have stayed there all day if it were me. I wouldn't care if they only served sandwiches if I got to stay. Good job Gary. Daisy needs to let it go. Gary isn't messing with her. He is just......Gary. Maybe she could dial it back a bit when she talks to Gary and looking for the littlest hint he might be "disrespectful" to her. She is still in love with him. The two jr. stews.....egads ladies. You are stews on a boat. Of course you will do housekeeping. Does Bravo look for the most inept, spoiled and unskilled labor they can find? 4 1 Link to comment
