Question: Does it count as hate-watching if I yell things at the pretend people on my tv when they make stupid-ass decisions?

Just wanted to check.

I understand that Violet went way beyond what a paramedic is supposed to do, but why did she attend con-ed classes on C-sections if she'd never do one?  Does it not matter at all that the woman's sister told her to do it?  That's the patient's next of kin giving consent; even after she heard the conversation that they shouldn't, she still asked them to.  So... wouldn't any of those factors weigh in?  No, it was just the alderman to the rescue... No one thought to ask the sister to come to the hearing with the baby, until the alderman thought of it?

There's some bad writing on this show, but at least it's hit or miss.  The "closure" on the Damon storyline was okay.  The nickname MK is pretty funny, too.  The writers are making fun of themselves there.

I’m not an expert here, but I don’t think consent is enough to override scope-of-practice rules. Those are pretty black and white, I assume. I don’t know why Violet’s continuing-ed curriculum would include stuff she’s not licensed to do. That’s a really good question.

ETA: I will say that Violet’s flat “Are you kidding me rn?” death stare at Bourbon Smoothie Woman’s wanting to know about “like, the worst thing y’all have seen” was highly entertaining.

I would have expected Violet to call in to an actual doc who would be able to authorize it and/or talk her through it. If they had come across a dead mom pinned in a train wreck, I believe that's the kind of thing they would do to save the baby (based on other TV shows, granted). She didn't even start a dialogue with Dispatch about a deceased mother with a live fetus.

I was shocked that nobody else at the table snapped that the question was highly inappropriate and never to be asked.

I assumed that the guardian angel would have come from Violet's partner's contacts, figuring she's already banged an alderman or two.

Cruz, Mouch, and Cap.  You got what you deserved.  That was absolutely ridiculous and I'm surprised that Pascal didn't get an earful too.  Ever hear of an ID number on a bicycle?  Believe it or not, it can be used to determine if the bicycle belongs to you.  Next time, buy a lock.

I have a feeling that Pascal's wife is the type to stir something up with other men just to see her husband react.  And that's what happened with Lieutenant Somebody, and he's playing right along.

Not to mention she offered no proof that she was next of kin to the mother.  Granted, it was rather obvious, but she could have been anyone who gave them consent.

I actually kept yelling at the TV that she needs to call Brett and see if Matt has any contacts left that he could reach out to.

It seemed like Chief Pascal got his LT antagonist to come up with the alderman contact and making noise

Except for the stolen bike nonsense, I enjoyed the show tonight. We get Kiley(?) back though under Hermann and not Kidd and the Violet story was good. I was surprised that the paramedic chief was on Violet’s side but kudos to her

Geez not that bitch Robinson again. I thought we got rid of her last season when Boden got the job she wanted. Didn't we find out something shady about her? I'm so tired of all the upper brass being villains.

I knew that would turn out to be not Javi's bike. And I guess nothing ever came of Cindy being all turned on by the skin lotion? These are all just one-off, requisite "hijinks of the week" stories huh?

The good thing about this show is they don't drag things out. Violet's latest crisis? Over and done with in just one episode. And I applaud that.

But for Pete's sake, just tell Carver his girlfriend deleted you texts, Violet. That whole thing needs to end. Along with whatever the hell Pascal's deal is.

Also? Kylie didn't want to work at 51 because everyone calls her mini Kidd? But it's OK if she's on engine? Um, OK. Whatever.

I think she just didn't want to work under Kidd because of the namecalling. I think she's otherwise fine working there

I would be interested to see the response in the Chicago news agencies if it were leaked that a CFD medic violated all medical protocols and was excused because an alderman intervened in the review process.

Given the nature of the intervention and the outcome of Violet’s decision, I don’t know the news agencies would say much. It’s really hard to vilify the outcome of a healthy baby and a family that’s grateful for her actions. And I’m not sure the Alderman actually said anything to the medical board, I got the impression it’s that he showed up with the family and media that made the board consider their decision carefully. Not that he actually spoke to them.

I agree. If the media did get wind and wanted to make it a problem, the sister would only have to come out and say that she asked them to save the baby, and look, here she is, a healthy baby girl...

I don't remember anything shady about Robinson. I got the impression that she's more of an antagonist than a villain. Someone who expects her paramedics to respect the chain of command and follow the rules and someone who is not completely enthralled with our merry band of heroes. I do remember Violet being wildly out of line last year with her when Brett was leaving. She was so used to getting her own way when she was in a romantic relationship with her old chief that she forgot herself when talking to Robinson. I did like seeing Robinson have her back with this case because it was ultimately the right thing to do.

Well, she was running for whatever office Boden eventually won (District Chief?) and was making some veiled threats, I think about shutting down Boden's station or something. It's why Boden decided to run against her. So there was something at least vaguely villainous about her but I'm fuzzy on the details.

She absolutely had it out for all of them, though the "why" was never really explained, as usual.  She said something about Boden being the old guard and she was part of the new guard...  They needed to reform the way the CFD does everything.  I don't know.

I wish there was any nuance to the writing for this show, because I would love if they had introduced Robinson as a firm, follow the policies type chief without being the cartoonish character they make so many of the show's antagonists. The fact is Boden did go too much in the other direction at times when it came to 51, so it would've been nice to see a counterpart who thought he should be stricter about upholding certain policies, without completely trying to bring him and the house down. Both leadership styles are valid and can work as long as neither is applied too extremely. But it's always about some terrible chief or politician who can't acknowledge any positives at 51 and needs to tear apart the team 🙄
