MaryMitch October 8 Share October 8 I liked both plot lines. The biker seemed likeable; I felt sorry for him. The young lady who likes the Three Stooges was certainly as rare as her heart issue. I have never understood slapstick humor. It was funny when one of the interns said they didn't know who the Three Stooges were. 1 Link to comment
Ellee October 8 Share October 8 Would love to read everyone’s opinions on this. I need to re-watch it. I can understand the biker’s tumor and the need to decide how he wants to continue his life or not. It’s the resolution of a tape of himself and writing a daily journal and notes everywhere to be his memory. It’s has me thinking. Would it be so bad? The young girl with a pacemaker to solve her issues. What is best? What really makes me think is — are there really people out there anymore that go that extra mile to find solutions? 1 Link to comment
AnimeMania October 8 Author Share October 8 It would probably be better if other people did the videos with him so he could see how happy they were together. I would one thing for the biker to say his daughter loves him and a completely different thing to hear her say it herself. Or to see how much fun he and his partner were having in Italy. It might be easier to make a to-do list with detailed instructions with a time line on his phone, than to place post-it notes all around the house. The pacemaker idea is probably for the best, otherwise she probably wouldn't be able to do simple things like drive a car. Link to comment
possibilities October 8 Share October 8 The advantage of the post it notes all around the house is that he will see them repeatedly throughout the day, and I can say from personal experience that it really makes a difference for me when I have reminders in front of my face over and over again vs if I have to go look it up to remember something. It's not an either/or, though. He can have a timeline and other info for some purposes, in a central place. But for a lot of things, which need sustained actions (like going to Italy) or which will stimulate a feeling he wants to savor (like his daughter coming over to visit), or things that are context-relevant (like "we're out of hot sauce, it's on the way, don't order more or waste time looking for it"), the scatteered notes are actually really helpful. 1 Link to comment
DanaK October 9 Share October 9 Before they said it, I thought a pacemaker for the girl might make sense. I’m not sure how I feel about the guy giving up future memories to save his life. That’s a tough way to live, on him and his family, but at least he had his daughter in his life. My dad had dementia in the final few years of his life so it was not an easy watch I’m enjoying this show quite a bit even though it gets weird at times 4 Link to comment
Diana Berry October 10 Share October 10 Yep, I’m invested in this show now. I Do find it amusing that Doc is so nice to the interns that just walk out on their patients in these episodes yet in that other medical show the poor intern got fired for walking out. 1 Link to comment
bros402 October 10 Share October 10 With the girl....did the previous neurologist do no testing? They would've seen seizures in an EEG! They should've also had the girl hooked up to an EEG when trying to induce seizures off screen! With her episodes never being caught on an EEG, you think they would've done a video EEG or at least an ambulatory EEG! I'm guessing that's why the parents were concerned about them trying to induce a seizure, since they hadn't done one on her before! And why would they give up after three anticonvulsants? I only remember two of them - Tegretol and Topamax, but there are a lot of anti-epileptics out there! I've been on 9 (currently on #7 and #9)! Also, uhhh, why would beta blockers ruin her life? They should've at least tried those before jumping to the nuclear option of the pacemaker - insurance probably would've required that! and why didn't they have an electrophysiologist consult? Or at least say, "So you saw the electrophysiologist earlier and..." since her problem is literally vasovagal syncope, just a severe case of it (since it's stopping her heart). 1 Link to comment
possibilities October 10 Share October 10 I've found pretty consistently that the more you know about a subject, the less a tv show about it makes any sense. 4 Link to comment
CarpeFelis October 11 Share October 11 Why the hell didn’t they immediately call in Cardiology when they figured out Emily’s problem was with her heart, instead of trying to brainstorm solutions first? Link to comment
bourbon October 11 Share October 11 Yeah, I'm not a healthcare pro, but my first thought was...if it is cardiological and not neurological, wouldn't they call in the heart team? Wouldn't they see what meds/therapies were available there? The pacemaker didn't seem like it was that outside the box. I'm with the biker. I think I would prefer to check out than not be able to make new memories. Yes, it all appears to have worked out, I guess, but it's TV world. He should have been allowed the dignity of his choice. Are they trying to ship Teddy Sears' character and Wolf? I couldn't catch the name, but it sounded like the person who texted him in the car was a guy. So, if he's gay, are they going to set this up as a will-they-or-won't-they? I don't know. I wouldn't hate that. Link to comment

Clearly because they haven't cast anyone to play a cardiologist yet. The cast seems to be the neurologist, the surgeon, the chief and the interns. 1 Link to comment
